Hannibal (2001) SYNOPSIS: Seven years have passed since Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) escaped from custody. The doctor is now at large in Europe. Mason Verger (Gary Oldman) remembers Lecter too, and is obsessed with revenge. Verger was Dr. Lecter's sixth victim, and though horribly disfigured, has survived. Verger realizes that to draw the doctor into the open, he must use someone as bait: Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore).

Hopkins's performance in Silences of the Lambs is one of my favourite, in all of movies. Certainly the best portrayal of a villain ever shown on a screen. However, I disliked his performance in Hannibal. Lecter was more intriguing when he was more mysterious, less talkative.
That's less on Hopkins and more on the screen writers.
Well, this has a source material. The book. Which is fascinating.

A lot of his traits I would say yes. But for the ones where he would cut his body parts off OR yours depending on how you answered... well I can't handle that kind of shit. I hate pressure being put on me about which pizza place we're gonna order from. I don't need it based on which of our body parts is going to make up the main course
So many women want their very own cuddly pocket monster. Surely there is a heart somewhere inside that bad boy, surely. And wouldn't they be someone to be the ones to get in there. The romance of that kind of exclusive. The special trust. The special understanding. The sweet dramaturgy of the hard exterior and the soft underbelly. The disregard for proper procedure and the hum-drum tyranny of making nice. The wall one might build around a nest with all these bits of monster under loving control and direction. But still uncontrolled enough to remain interesting. Insert a bit of jazz. Tease a playful battle of wills. Transport one out of ones own head. And then they wind up bruised in the trauma section or in separate plastic bags.

There is a different connection he has with her then with Jodie, though I don't know if I would have liked JF portrayal. One can think. I wished they had done the original ending to the book it would have been nicer. Though I don't know if he would of had to keep drugging her, would she have gone with him if he hadn't.
I prefer Julianne Moore over Jodie Foster after I have read that Jodie Foster couldn’t do a single scene together with Anthony Hopkins because she was so afraid of him. It really doesn’t make sense to put two people in a film who cannot play together in the same film. How should they ever be able to play a scene where they were kissing each other, like Julianne Moore did?

It may sound crazy, but I kind of like Lecter in a human way.
His calm manner is very pleasant, in contrast to people today.
He never gets loud, is always polite and respectful and well-groomed.
You can't imagine him in a jogging suit and slippers.
He is only polite to you as long as you treat him politely or ruin an orchestra acoustically with bad playing.
Julianne is underrated as claire's.
