  • This GIANT Rc plane is a challenge to fly but such a blast!! This is the maiden flight and and I found multiple squawks that will but addressed and fixed in a future video!
    ⚠️BE CAREFUL AROUND PROPS GUYS!! I’m finding out, the hard way, how dangerous props and Rc planes, as a whole, can be. I got lucky on this one it could’ve been much worse. Flying a plane requires a very responsible pilot, be your own biggest critic and NEVER COMPROMISE SAFETY for a little extra ease or fun!

    Ive got the Great Planes Big Giant Stik which is basically the same plane but with the traditional Ugly Stik Red Baron Fokker theme. I'm running an Inverted Saito FA180 with the Slimeline inverted pipes so our setups are so similar we even have to clean the same spots post flights....

    Thanks for the video. I’ve wondered how well the Saito 150 would power a 30cc Stick. I sand the leading and trailing edges of props for self protection. The 150S will bite very hard. The early ones are worse than later engines because they have a higher compression ratio. It’s the scariest engine I own. Too bad that your Ultracote is already failing. Every plane that I covered with UC ended up having to be stripped and re-covered with something else because of delamination.

      @flyinghighjoe  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Saito 150 is a great engine (not scary when handled properly😉) and would power the 30cc Stick very well. Agreed: Ultracote doesn’t come close in quality to Monokote or other covering brands😏

    used to keep superglue close for minor prop cuts, works surprisingly well actually. make a chicken stick and keep it in your flightbox when you forget your glove, if your anything like me your going to forget it again! great content, Keep building and flying!

      @@flyinghighjoe Yep. That's the point. Everyone thinks it can't happen to them until it does. Only takes one mistake. In my case there was slack in the tail tie down and the plane lunged forward causing the spinning prop to impact my left hand. 30cc, 19" prop. I was lucky I didn't lose any fingers.

    I have a stick I bought 3 yrs ago. It was built 20 yrs ago and never flow . I getting it sorted out now for a maiden. My first🛩️ flights were in farmers field near my home in northern Utah. I fly umx and park size off my back yard in the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints parking lot and ball field often. I'm dig'n your flying.

      Cool 😎. Small planes are fun to fly out of every random place possible. I’m getting ready to put in a grass runway at my house for the bigger planes which will be really nice.

    • @flyinghighjoe
      @flyinghighjoe  ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason it cut my fingers is the back edge of the prop is very sharp. So when it back fires it bites ya real hard.

    Just happened upon your video. Nice job and good to see newer pilot's speaking about safety. Not nit picking, but be cautious about the strings on your hoodie, looked awfully close to the prop. Keep up the great videos 😉

      Lol I didn’t notice the strings till I watched the video later. Kinda scared me knowing what could’ve happened if they got caught😬. Lesson learned

    Was thinking about putting a Saito 180 in an Ultra Stick, the 150 powers it well.

    • @flyinghighjoe
      @flyinghighjoe  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Saito 150 is relatively light in weight. I had to add a big chunk of lead ballast to the nose to get the CG into the accepted range. The 180 might be a better choice if you need more weight on the nose.

    • @David-hm9ic
      @David-hm9ic 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@flyinghighjoe The 180 has a bigger bore in the same sized cylinder and actually weighs 2 grams less. Two grams is insignificant for an airplane that big but don’t assume larger displacement equates to more weight.

    How old is that Srick? I have a H9 30cc Ultra Stick that is green and white. A great flyer. Looked to be about the same physical size. I also have a Great Planes Giant Stick with a 60cc twin. I love these sticks. Nice flying. Glad you didn't seriously hurt yourself.

    • @flyinghighjoe
      @flyinghighjoe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s the same size as the hanger 9 30 cc ultra stick. I don’t know how old it is though. I think it’s the original one they made.

    What engine mount did you use? I bought the green ultra stick and it didn't come with an engine mount. I'm going to run a saito 180. Should be plenty of power

    you didn't talk about the wing.. double screws?

    • @flyinghighjoe
      @flyinghighjoe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry I missed that part… it has four 3 1/2” 1/4x20 steel bolts on the wing. I thought abt using nylon bolts to save some weight but I don’t trust their strength.

    • @russcole5685
      @russcole5685 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@flyinghighjoenylon bolts of that size will be plenty. It's not do much of a weight saving as such, but a air frame/wing protection. If you drag a wing on a ruff landing, bolts will break before ripping the blocks out. Such is the theory any how.
