Kirk, Loved the video, the kick drum tuning is and always has been my short coming, this vid helped immensely. thank you. Off topic question tho, honestly from my bride, where did you get those standing light bars in the background? Thanks brother, and love your stuff!
Many thanks for watching! I really appreciate it. As for the lights, they're from Govee (us.govee.com).
Good Drum 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
Many thanks for watching!
What is that snare pattern called or made up of?
Thanks for the question! Since there are a lot of patterns in this solo I need to ask which pattern? Or are you asking what rudiments make up the solo? Let me know and I'll get you the answer. 👍
🔥🔥🔥🔥
@jamalsglazer11 Thanks for watching!
birch all the way.
Birch is a great sound!
@@KirksDrumRoom my comment was based on the colour 😂😂😂
@@TheSickNeeds Got it! 😂😂😂
This is a great tutorial, Kirk. Thank you for sharing this with all of us. I have my bottom hat cymbal just about touching the top hat on the side where the filter thingy is. There is about an inch or so space between the hats on the side closer to me. As far as looseness of the hats goes, I don’t know. Mine is probably about where yours is.❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
Glad you like it. I get the tilter question all the time. And I can't tell you how many times students won't put the second felt under the cymbal. Ha! 😆
@ 😵💫 Yeah, I was an elementary teacher for 39 years. No telling what the kids will do or not do next.🤗

Este señor toca para el que estudio!!! Batería.

I’m not sure what that was demonstrating. I am sure that it sounded solid.❤️🙏
These shorts that I've done this week are written snare solos that younger students might want to use for their local solo/ensemble festivals. I've gotten a lot of school band directors asking for this type of video. Hopefully they're finding it helpful.
@ Judging from the comments, you are very appreciated.❤️🙏
@@gregwonhoff7161thanks. My whole plan for the channel is to help other drummers if I can.

That was a nice rim shot!

Been an H&B user for 46 years. Started with the fiber cases and worked my way though to the Enduro Pros. Not a single H&B case has ever let me down. The best example I have is from years ago when my drums were being transported to the stage on a golf cart. The golf cart took a hard turn and one of the cases fell, hit the grown and bounced into a reflection pool. The drum not only didn't have a dent or a scratch, it didn't even get wet. That's how good these cases are. BTW, H&B has a couple of lines of soft cases too.
What a great review story! They certainly seem to be GREAT cases!
What's up kirk?!!!!....
Just playing some snare solos. LOL You?
I'm not sure if I already ask you a question or not, but did you endorse by Prologic pad?
No, I'm not a Prologix endorser. But I love their pads!
I have the exact same one
Awesome!
Thanks kirk! Never seen or heard of 55a. Will check em out at the store next time I'm there. I also have large hands and long fingers. So Ive been using 5a's and 1a's!
I've been loving them for a few years now. Slightly bigger than a 5A, but not as big as a 5B. Hope you like them.
@@KirksDrumRoom7:38! More cowbell! And of course, more snare drum 10:43!
@@anthonyn1312 😆👍
Question: "Hey can you describe some of the sound characteristics of maple vs birch? I care to know. Answer: "Nobody cares!"
I'm actually going to do a video on the differences of sound between these two. Even though I've never been asked for a specific drum material due to sound in a professional setting (live or studio), they do have different sound characteristics. It's just unfortunate that the sound man turns what sound you have into his own vision most of the time. And hopefully he gets it right.
I have had the older model H&B Enduro unlined cases for 3 different drum kits. I have shipped internationally with no issues for cases, drums or cymbals.
That's awesome! I think they're incredible cases. I'm planning on ordering some soon.
I'm sold!
Please let me know what you think when you get it.
yea kurt rustbank
Thanks for watching!
I like using a big heavy stick to warm up with and I don’t think about it at all. I just do it and it helps me.
I understand the thought of how they should help with conditioning the hands. I used to warm-up with heavy sticks for years. But for me it seems to throw off the feel now. That said, in my teaching career I use all kinds of different sticks and mallets, and they all feel different. I say whatever makes you a better player is what you should use.
@@KirksDrumRoom I get it what sticks do you like
@@joshuajuaire8757 I usually use Vic Firth 55A's. Slightly bigger than a 5A. But since I teach high school, during marching season, I use marching sticks almost everyday for class. Then switch back after school to do my own practicing. I usually warm-up with whatever stick I'm about to use on either a gig or teaching.
@@KirksDrumRoom cool
It’s like their company policy is this: Offer customers lots of options when designing their pads, but keep the pads until you feel ready to ship them out. But as bad as their customer service is, it’s not as much *BS* as this little fact: some guy duct taped a banana to a wall and it somehow sold for $6.2 million!!!!!!!!! *$6.2 MILLION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CAN YOU IMAGINE THE BULLSHIT???? IF I HAD KNOWN I’D GET PAID AMOUNT OF MONEY, I WOULDN’T BE WORKING!!!!!!!!! AND IT’S AN INSULT FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO WORK HARD AT WHAT THEY DO, AND WHAT THEY’RE PASSIONATE ABOUT, AND THEN THEY FIND OUT THIS PIECE OF CRAP???????? THAT A BANANA!!!!! DUCT TAPED TO A WALL!!!!!!!!! SOLD FOR $6.2 MILLION?!?!?!?!?!?!?! THIS IS MONEY LAUNDERING!!!!!!!!! AND I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
Extremely valid point!
Would be nice to know the drum dial settings, sounds great
Unfortunately I don't own a Drum Dial. I may bite the bullet and get one over Christmas.
@@KirksDrumRoom Don't do it get a Tunebot instead because it measures frequencies not tension. You will never look back!
@@benking9160 Thanks for the suggestion
What do you think about the power stroke 3 clear
I think it's a fantastic bass drum head. I just recently went back to using it on my 20” kick.
If they want to make it up, give us extra 30% off with new shipping time for all previous purchaser.
That's a solid idea!
Actually, this watch is not made by Seiko Watch but Seiko Instruments. Both are part of the Seiko Group Corporation but separate companies.
Many thanks for offering that up. I didn't catch it.
Thank you! I'm about to buy my first kit. I'm an engineer; not a drummer. Your video re-enforced my opinion and thoughts. I'll be getting a Mapex Mars 5 piece kit. Thanks again for the confirming information.
You bet! And enjoy your new kit!

Correction. Bb is referenced back to A being at those frequencies, my man! Like how Bb would sound if A was at 440, 442 or 443. That's how the whole system works. Other than that, an awesome video! I have a strong urge to own this watch! 🔥❤️🤟👍
Yep! You're totally correct. I was going to do a very short video on that topic once I figured it out, but different friends were like "why". LOL Thanks for commenting so others can see the correction! 👍
@@KirksDrumRoom anytime, my man. Keep making such cool videos, even correction ones if needed. Your friends confused you with their own question. They may have known the difference, but the world in general is oblivious to the science of music. A video would've been great! Cheers. 🤟😉
@@theguitarteacher You've convinced me to add this topic to the queue. 👍
Going on 20 years with my skb cases. Only complain i have is the inner lining coming undone. Other than that cases are built tough...
That's high praise! Yeah, they seem well built. I have had no problem using them in our school situation. And with high school kids they can get beat up fast.
Great lesson as usual I've been watching you from the start just brilliant !!
Many thanks! Much appreciated!
This is the only review that I can find on TH-cam of the new xymox pad design. They changed the design of the pad back in November of 2022. It now has a double rim which the older pads did not. The snare mechanism is also different. It is now circle and it used to be square. Also the old pads came with a pad to stop the snare sound, it no longer includes that. With that being said, I ordered and received a reserve max + pad about 4 months ago. I LOVE it! We all know the bad history of xymox. They are much better now. My pad come in one month with frequent shipping updates. They did however send my pad with the wrong color lugs,(they sent me the color i actually wanted, i didn’t go with my gut, so honestly happy i got the ones I wanted!). I sent them an email and asked if I can get the correct color lugs that i ordered and they sadly never responded. I think I’ll send a follow up email. With all that being said, if you’re thinking of getting a pad from xymox I highly recommend and think it is safe to get nowadays!
I agree with you. It seems they're on the right track with inventory and customer service, for the most part.
Ijust got this book a couple of weeks ago. Can't wait to check it out!! Great video
Many thanks, Dave!
this watch is so sick, I've been wanting it for a while. Do you have any recommendations on where to get a nicer strap for it? I'm not too into watches and wouldn't know
Here are a couple options: Teddy Baldassarre teddybaldassarre.com/collections/straps, Strapsco: strapsco.com/, Barton Bands: www.bartonwatchbands.com/?srsltid=AfmBOooIVKmzHE3dv-BZBXg84qT6PIzDBubzb8WOC1UmPSCyvTa1GXl8. Just remember to check length, and make sure the width is 18mm.
"Say you're right-handed, and your left hand stinks, or you're left-handed, and your right hand stinks..." Or like me, I'm right-handed, and both hands stink. 😉
Oh Man, you seriously need this video Jim! Ahahaa! Believe me, I've seen you play. Your hands are just fine.
@@KirksDrumRoom You're too kind. There's always that next level. You get old enough, do this long enough, eventually you'll realize you will never finish. Nobody does.

Crazy man, if only I had this watch when I was playing trumpet, heh. Not for time keeping just because I love watches
If you're into watches and music, this really is a fun piece.
I ordered tenor pads from Xymox on 10/24/2019 and still haven’t received them or a refund. Absolute trash company.
No guarantee it will work, but several folks have contacted them recently about missing orders and have gotten either refunds or their orders taken care of. Hopefully you'll get one or the other.

Hi Peter. Thanks for watching! I'll put the mallet bag video idea in the queue. I think it's time to offer that up.
I’m pretty sure that the pad is made of the same thing as a moon gel, which is not liquid. It just has a plastic layer over it.
