A little GoT history lesson: So, Theon's father attempted to lead House Greyjoy in a huge rebellion against the rest of the Seven Kingdoms a few years after Robert took the throne. It was a *Big Deal* and it had several lasting impacts: It crushed House Greyjoy (hence why their lands and castles still look pretty busted years later), it cemented King Robert as ruler of the Seven Kingdoms by forcing everyone to band back together to defeat this new foe, it helped repair the friendship between Robert and Ned which had been damaged following the end of the war... AND most relevantly to this video: When Theon's father lost, King Robert forced him to place Theon - his last surviving son - in Ned Stark's household as a hostage, to ensure the Greyjoys didn't try rebelling again. We know the Starks treated him kindly, and possibly dressed up the situation by calling Theon a "ward" of House Stark, but in actuality, he was always a hostage meant to force his father's good behavior. This is why their relationship is incredibly strained now, and why - despite his friendship with Rob - Theon has always held a slight resentment towards him and his family. As with a lot of things in this show, Theon's personal history is pretty complex.
its not dress up, he is a literal ward. calling it a hostage situation is a stretch. robert essentially granted Robert Custody of Theon. making Eddard his adopted father. its not an actual hostage situation more like a situation where eddard intends to train theon to think like a stark so that when Theon becomes lord Theon Greyjoy that he will be loyal to the starks and as such the 7 kingdoms
@@houseofaction - Depends who in Westeros you ask, I suppose. To the Starks and some of the Stark bannermen, he was a ward. 37:21 Davos was a smuggler during Robert's rebellion; when Stannis had been under siege at Storm's End for almost a year Davos managed to evade the blockade and smuggle onions and salted fish into the starving castle; as a reward Stannis made him a landed knight, hence the nickname of the onion knight... but he also punished him for his smuggling (that's Stannis for you) by cutting off the first joint of each finger in his right hand. Really liking the format. Several episodes at once is a good way to plow through it all, and it feels like binge watching for us. The story is very layered and deep, but this means a lot of it isn’t reaction material. Compressing it works very well.
Exactly. This is a good way of doing longer shows without needing to have a hundred videos to get through it all. Hopefully this style continues once GOT is over and other shows get into the lineup (Agents of SHIELD perhaps?)
Yea, I feel you. I had my reservations but this is good. I will say. I hope that she does switch to full episode reactions in later seasons. It just works better that way.
Some episodes have so much going on they can definitely stand alone. 8.2 and 8.3 for sure, some of the season finales and openers once it gets rolling.
If cliff hangers make Tyler have to watch the next episode right away he should never ever start "The Expanse". He'll binge all 5 seasons in a weekend. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Wait, that's his sister? He didn't recognize her?!" Well, no, he's been a ward of the Starks since he was a young boy, it's not surprising he didn't recognize her. "Was it not just a White Walker?" It was... but wights (the risen dead) are not the same as White Walkers (who create wights, and are more intelligent than them), and Jon has never seen a White Walker up until now, only wights. Most of the Night's Watch has no idea what they are or that they exist, aside from *maybe* stories viewed as old wives' tales and bedtime stories to scare children.
Yeah, what we've seen up till now are just wights (zombies). The White Walkers are a whole other and much worse thing (IDK, I guess they're kind of... Mummy? Lich?) that control the wights.
When Melisandre promises Stannis a boy. Natalie: Oh Stannis, she can't do that, it's genetics. 10 mins later Natalie: Oh she is super Preggo, wait, what, WHAT, WAT!? LOL
In the military/statecraft they do a similar thing to what Tyrion was doing passing a "secret" to different people. A single phrase per page or another non important idea is changed on each page, lets say for a ten page document. A record is kept of who received each copy. If a photocopied page or a quote is brought to light then you can track which person "lost" that info.
"How're you gonna keep that secret (Shae)?" says Nat. A very good question. "I can't believe he let Cersei (know that he knows about twincest)!" Neither can I. "If Sam tries to help, he really is brave." Funny, according to later seasons, Sam is only brave because of the people he kills, validating his father's worldview. "She's so chill about it (her brother sleeping with her husband), it's insane." Yup. "We just had the passage of time go like that" {snaps} Hmm. Sounds like ... teleportation! Sorry, guys. The bad writing didn't magically appear in Season 5 (or 7 or 8 or whenever you think the show went off the rails). It was always there, it's just that when they were too afraid of leaving the trail laid down by the books, unless it was too difficult or expensive to film, their sloppy plotting was concealed by a superior story.
Natalie: "Was it her favorite guy? He didn't deserve to go out like that, he deserved a better death." Me, having seen the series at least three times: "Who?"

And also, our North has "Hadrian's Wall" which infamously created a big divide, its very comical to see GoT use this as well as north ruling with the Wildlings.
I like to think the Wildlings are Scottish lol. As my good Scottish friends are as wild as they come!
You're one of the best reaction channels and you've only been around for such a short time! Looking forward to future uploads!
Davos considered this a just ruling as long as Stannis swung the blade himself, and has served Stannis ever since, wearing the bones of his cut finger joints in a pouch around his neck as a lucky charm.
And so my watch begins :D
How have I never thought of this until now?
I really appreciated you talking with your camera man. That was somewhat wholesome and reassuring. I liked it a lot.
"Girl I know you're starving, but that HAIR!" Haha
Hey Nat:) been waiting!!! thanks
The Heartbreak Kid 2007 Movie - Ben Stiller what movie name
Cersi: Power is power
Tywin: Jesus H Fuck, are all my progeny completely stupid?
Dude knew how to play politics and rule but he sure as shit didn't know how raise his kids right.
I enjoyed seasonal change briefing with tyler before the next one, its good to summarise, especially as its been many years for many of us.
Thus far, watching your emotional rollercoaster has been validating haha. I want to pre send you a hug for the seasons to come.
For me, Ser Davos is the Best character in the whole series.
Davos rules !
I love this format! Those of us who have seen this series many times and from many reactions over the years the show aired, we needed reaction videos that spanned many more episodes than just one. Thank you for this~
Glad you're enjoying this series, as the majority of it is phenomenal.
"Tyrion, you aren't making many friends in your family..." Yeah, Cersie kinda blames Tyrion for the death of their mother and would cheerfully kill him herself if she thought her dad would let her.
I dont think she would.besides joffrey that family cares for family above all.
@@baronhomer1 Never say never..
@@baronhomer1 i think she would happily do that. She loves all of her family except him. She literally hates him and view him as a monster who killed her mom
@@castiels_trenchcoat974 I dont think shed mourn his loss much but she wouldnt kill him I dont think.
@@castiels_trenchcoat974 She hates him. But not enough to kill him herself. Maybe, if she wouldn't have to watch. But with her own hands? No. I honestly don't think so. 🤔
These episodes just remind me how much i loved this show. My anxiety and nervousness for you watching this series has me on edge during every episode, but in good way. I am so glad you are loving this show. It is also nice to watch with you on here as there are small bits here and there that I had completely forgotten about.
Natalie: He's gotta be something he's not... and this has gotta be so hard...
Me: *giggles* not that hard...
Season 2 is probably my favorite in the whole show. My favorite characters go through my favorite arcs and the constant intrigue is delicious. Looking forward to your next one!
natalie: so what did u think of season 1
Tyler: I've seen season 2
natalie: what?! cut the camera cut the f***ing camera
(30 seconds later, camera back on)
natalie: Tyler will no longer appear on screen vocally or otherwise ....ever
🤣
Thank you to the editor for fading in a picture of siegmeyer of Catarina, the best onion knight in any video game!
The moment I saw Stannis my knee dropped to the floor
The Iron Throne is his by every law of Westeros
he is the traitor aaahhh
My grammer improved immediately as well.
Thanks for convo with Tyler. We love the reactions
Natalie! I’ve been following you since your Star Wars days - it may be surprising to hear right now, but Theon Greyjoy is easily my favorite figure in ASOIAF, if not fantasy literature. Although it’s a bit different in the books, I can’t help but look forward to seeing you experience his character in the show - his arc really kicks off in season two.
His name is Reek. He must remember his name.
@@Jon.A.Scholt Please don’t suggest spoilers. :(
@@goldvondensternen do they even use that in the show? I honestly don't remember, I've only seen a majority of the show once through, whereas it is all over A Dance with Dragons.
@@Jon.A.Scholt I’ve also only watched the show once (skipped around the later seasons ngl), but the name is definitely referenced.
@@Jon.A.Scholt Yes, please delete spoilers.
One of the best interaction in the show is between Aria and Tywin. Loved their scenes
"Wait, that's his sister? He didn't recognize her?!"
Well, no, he's been a ward of the Starks since he was a young boy, it's not surprising he didn't recognize her.
"Was it not just a White Walker?"
It was... but wights (the risen dead) are not the same as White Walkers (who create wights, and are more intelligent than them), and Jon has never seen a White Walker up until now, only wights.
As others may have recommended. Please watch The Expanse. The plot complexity, camera work and character development is right up your alley
"...that baby is moving alot" LOL!! Indeed. 😁
I hope you and Tyler continue to do these "previously on" debriefs every season!
I think we need to call this segment "Gold of Thrones" LOL
All of the conversations in the series matter. I hope you don't miss much of it. Great reactions as usual Nat.
"Yeah, right; I forgot he comes from, like, sea people." 🧜♂️😝🧜♀️
Like.....Aquaman?
NAT: "I hope Bran is magical that would be cool".
Millisadre: "Hold my cup"
When Melisandre promises Stannis a boy.
Natalie: Oh Stannis, she can't do that, it's genetics.
10 mins later
Natalie: Oh she is super Preggo, wait, what, WHAT, WAT!?
LOL
Hey Nat, just wanted to say, appreciate these first few seasons, some of the best storytelling ever.
Stannis the mannis is the rightful king, all those that deny him are his foes
Congratulations Natalie and Tyler on the start of your journey together!
2:20 ‘he just can’t go slow’ - yeah that’s not uncommon 😛
In the military/statecraft they do a similar thing to what Tyrion was doing passing a "secret" to different people. A single phrase per page or another non important idea is changed on each page, lets say for a ten page document. A record is kept of who received each copy. If a photocopied page or a quote is brought to light then you can track which person "lost" that info.
I love the intros to these GOT episode.
I'm LOVING these reactions, and the way you structure them.
Nice hearing you guys discuss I like this format, or better, to see both of you on the camera if he feels comfortable enough!
Natalie: "Was it her favorite guy? He didn't deserve to go out like that, he deserved a better death."
Me, having seen the series at least three times: "Who?"
You never noticed in three viewings that among the early dothraki days she has one or two dothraki men that protect her or are around her?
Really enjoying getting your take on G.O.T. from a newbie perspective. Some of your obsevations/ questions have been spot on (won't tell you which),and others I'm thinking "if she only knew!!" Can't wait for your next one to come out.
34:19 “Ah dun wan et.”
So keen for Part 2! This Season is off the hook!!!
Please watch the series "DARK"!
Protip: Print out a map and hang it somewhere you can see.. With the great houses on the relevant parts of the seven kingdoms (tyrells in the reach etc)
That way you have more of an image.. who the people are.. where they live... or where they are and where they're going. Where the iron islands are relative to the north and kings landing. and harrenhall and riverrun. It adds a lot I think to your understanding of what's going on and who's fighting who.
I'm a simple man. I go to youtube. I see reaction. I click.
Her instincts on Little Finger are spot on... it took me 'til season 5 before I was like "Hey, this guy... you might not wanta trust."
Can we let her do Outlander next as a reward for doing this series so well.
I would ADORE if she did Outlander, but I would REALLY wish for one episode at a time, and that's not gonna happen.
Loved the shout out to Ogdensburg NY, I grew up for 28 years of my life across the border in Canada to that town.
"if he stabs her in the back and turns her in I will be heartbroken". Umm this is game of thrones prepare to be heartbroken 😂
He does stab her eventually ... just not in the back. 😂
It was lovely having Tyler's input as well!
