Career-wise: I definitely had to build confidence in myself and what I’m capable of to work as a nurse in the operating room. It’s a completely different world from the floor. I was told by my mom, who is also an OR nurse, that if you don’t build up that thick skin, they will eat you alive. I’m amongst the younger end of nurses being 28, and when I’m surrounded by almost all male surgeons sometimes, I have to assert myself to make my presence known. It can be exhausting, but when the attendings are pleased to see me when they walk in the door, I KNOW I’m doing something right.

It’s a myth that confidence is an automatic quality. The great thing is there are tools and resources to help build you your confidence. Remember confident people aren’t born that way. You got this!
You have so much time to work on that and build yourself up ♥️ You are no where near too late. I have a long journey ahead of me, but I feel waaay more confident now (as a 23 year old) then I ever have. The journey upward is hard and takes a lot of reprogramming, but it's possible even if it seems like it's not. Never give up because you deserve the best just like everyone on this planet. ♥️
Its a journey, its a process, its something that takes work especially when you start off as insecure or lacking any confidence at all. For me the 'fake it til you make it' thing really worked. I'm still not confident compared to the average person but I'm ten times more confident than I was at 18 (I am 24). Honestly, give yourself time and practice self-love and you'll slowly start to feel the change.
I literally down myself because of what I think I overheard someone say about me & that's why I'm building my confidence. I need to validate me & let that be enough.
" I didn't know how, but I knew I was going to be successful", this hit me hard. When you know deep down, that something greater is waiting for you it helps you to keep your eyes on the prize, whatever happened with the kids at school, what your ex boyfriend said about you, or your grades are falling; your guts tells you you'll be alright. I think it's a grace, when God lets you know that. It's always been the case for me and it helped me to move on from a lot of toxicity and negativity. Thank you for reminding us of that

I had a “best friend” in high school who, for some reason, expected me to not to like the skin I’m in. She use to constantly say how she was going to use skin bleaching creams to get a lighter skin tone and tried to convince me that I should too. I had to separate myself from her because the things she said and did started to take a toll on me. I start off my day by telling myself that I am beautiful and ambitious all the time and it has been helping me so far.

For me growing up I wasn’t confident because EVERYONE in my family was light skin. I’m a really dark and I got it from my dad. All my features are from my father whom was never around me. I felt so ugly. As I got older I realized that I’m actually really pretty. Like exceptionally so. It took me a long time to understand that.

And listen, when I was young my family always commented on my weight and now looking back even heavier then I was then, looking at old pictures I actually looked good! I was so self conscious when I was a teen and could never do anything without thinking about what other people thought of me, and feeling like everybody was judging me. And people were judging, they still are all the time. But I realised whatever I do, people are gonna judge me. I’ve been reflecting a lot on my relationship with myself, which has been rocky pretty much as soon as I hit puberty (I am 23 atm). Upon reflecting, I think my biggest issue is celebrating my success. I used to get really worked up about my academic performance, would voice those worries to friends and all. Then I often ended doing well, and tragically those friends would roll their eyes and tell me to shut up about my good grades. You know what I realized ? with the bullying and pushing down I've experienced in my youth, I submitted in the idea that other people wanted me to hate myself and stay down. And I followed it. I have a long journey ahead of me, but I feel waaay more confident now (as a 23 year old) then I ever have. The journey upward is hard and takes a lot of reprogramming, but it's possible even if it seems like it's not. Never give up because you deserve the best just like everyone on this planet. ♥️

Its a journey, its a process, its something that takes work especially when you start off as insecure or lacking any confidence at all. For me the 'fake it til you make it' thing really worked. I'm still not confident compared to the average person but I'm ten times more confident than I was at 18 (I am 24). Honestly, give yourself time and practice self-love and you'll slowly start to feel the change.

When you know deep down, that something greater is waiting for you it helps you to keep your eyes on the prize, whatever happened with the kids at school, what your ex boyfriend said about you, or your grades are falling; your guts tells you you'll be alright. I think it's a grace, when God lets you know that. It's always been the case for me and it helped me to move on from a lot of toxicity and negativity. Thank you for reminding us of that

I had a “best friend” in high school who, for some reason, expected me to not to like the skin I’m in. She use to constantly say how she was going to use skin bleaching creams to get a lighter skin tone and tried to convince me that I should too. I had to separate myself from her because the things she said and did started to take a toll on me. I start off my day by telling myself that I am beautiful and ambitious all the time and it has been helping me so far.
that's incredibly messed up, as someone who unfortunately fell for the skin lightening regime. I applaud you for separating yourself from someone toxic like that. Thankfully, my skin tone has not taken a toll because of my mother and her advice that she gave me and it's the same saying I'm gifting to you. You are a tree, your roots run deep and you stand proudly in the sky, never take notice to those who throw stones at you for all they wish to seek is your ripened fruit.

I dont know if anyone understands me but Jackie feels to me like a bigger sister, like the woman I aspire to be. For me growing up I wasn’t confident because EVERYONE in my family was light skin. I’m a really dark and I got it from my dad. All my features are from my father whom was never around me. I felt so ugly. As I got older I realized that I’m actually really pretty. Like exceptionally so. It took me a long time to understand that.

I always felt really insecure about myself. I even had family members tell me your fat and need to lose weight. Rn I'm trying. Its hard when people talk about your insecure. I'm still a teen and trying to figure who I am. I'm still young and growing. It's hard I cry almost everyday.

You ARE figuring things out, allow yourself room to grow! And listen, when I was young my family always commented on my weight and now looking back even heavier then I was then, looking at old pictures I actually looked good! Now that I’m heavier, they don’t say anything at all 😂 What people say is just that, words. A lot of the time, you’ll learn it doesn’t hold that much weight. Ever changing in stance and importance. Love yourself enough to figure out what YOU like and what your opinion is because they aren’t going to be living your life for you 💛 hope it gets better.

I was so self conscious when I was a teen and could never do anything without thinking about what other people thought of me, and feeling like everybody was judging me. And people were judging, they still are all the time. But I realised whatever I do, people are gonna judge me. You have to find the people who make you feel confident, but also accept that your self love is the only love that can make you feel the best

I’ve been reflecting a lot on my relationship with myself, which has been rocky pretty much as soon as I hit puberty (I am 23 atm). Upon reflecting, I think my biggest issue is celebrating my success. I used to get really worked up about my academic performance, would voice those worries to friends and all. Then I often ended doing well, and tragically those friends would roll their eyes and tell me to shut up about my good grades. I’m realizing more and more that I’ve got my work cut out for me in undoing all that shit that I internalized. Thanks for keeping the conversation around women and self-love going, Jackie ❤️

I watched this video in my bathroom. Every time she said something inspirational, I tried to think of something pretty/I like about my face or about my personality. Nothing negative, only positive things that make me beautiful, not just on the outside. I walked out of the bathroom 10x more confident. Just a tip :)
