I have been saying this for years. They want to put more work into something that would last a day instead of something that should last forever. Some(not all) of these people's marriages are more for show because it's looked up as goals.

As someone else put it on social media, some of our parents are trying to raise us for a world that they grew up in that no longer exist. Societal expectations and values are constantly evolving. That's why it's important to put others advice into context of whether or not it is applicable to your current situation. And also deciding whether or not they're credible enough to even follow their advice. 🙍

The pressure doesn’t stop btw. I’m 33, married at 25, have a career and higher education, and a two year old. I get asked EVERY DAMN DAY about having another child, even by complete strangers. Everyone has their opinion, and I’m just like WHEN DOES IS STOP?!?
I have one child and no plans to have another. The best response I've found to nosy ass people and their inappropriate questions is to tell them it is up to God. That shuts them up.
Girl....I am 34...with no boyfriend....no guy on the horizon....no kids....My sister is the same way. We both want kids and a dependable loving husband. My mother, father, grandmother, godmother, and more than half of my cousins....talk about how we don't have kids and probably never will. Majority of my females in my family have kid/kids with MULTIPLE partners. They have to do all this by themselves. I see how all of them struggle....and complain. I will continue to do what I do...until I find my perfect partner....and then and only then will I plop out das kiddos.

I’m 27 and in the same boat but I can’t help but feel some type of way!! It’s like no one in my family thinks that maybe I’m living this life because I DON’T want to experience their struggles? Every woman in my family started having kids before 25 years old and they all seemed so unhappy! I have a younger cousin who is on her second child with her boyfriend and they are struggling but she comments on me being single😑
Like no, my biggest goal in life has been to be successful and provide for myself. I thought I’d get worried being this age and single but to my surprise, I really don’t care as much as I thought it would. All I’m thinking about is passing my entrance exam and getting into this nursing program!
This really hit me today wow !!! I’m “older” than most people who have already graduated university and I’m still in university figuring everything out. I always feel like I have to speed everything up and finish so I can get married and have kids. I’ve gotta start reminding myself I’m on my own timeline and that I shouldn’t compare myself to anyone 💕 I needed this xoxo
I'm also "older" and still in university. I'm one of the oldest people in my grad program. What I remind myself of, and what I'd encourage you to remember, is that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
Im the same way. But my dad has always told me that everyone is on their own journey. Nobody’s journey is the same.
I just graduated as a film major and we had quite a bit of older people in my program, and had a 95 year old woman graduate and receive her degree with us. Never feel bad, life doesn’t go the same way for all of us, I’m rooting for you!

Real talk, I was married at 32 and thought I was doing everything "right" after watching all my friends marry by 25 and divorce by 30. I still ended up divorced before 35. It took me like a year before I stopped feeling like a failure. The worst part was none of my friends wanted to hear about it, despite most of them knowing what I was going through, people are soooooo uncomfortable with the whole idea of divorce, there is almost zero support out there.

I’m 23 I got married at 22 & my whole life I’ve always wanted and craved to be a mother and a wife so I’m happy & I love being a mom and wife...like some people have a dream to be entertainers and be law enforcers. My parents just encouraged me to do whatever I wanted to be even if it was work in fast food to be the best at it. I actually didn’t have a wedding. We got married in my parents living room because it was more so about us and our vows to one another not other people. We’re reaching our goal together & our bond has grown stronger as one. Thank you Jackie! I really needed to hear this. I’m 25 and working on a PhD (hell yea ladies in STEM) and it’s my ENTIRE life. It feels weird seeing all of my friends my age getting married and having kids, and I can’t even imagine doing that. I’m grateful to have a partner that agrees with me and lets me flourish :)

I have no plans of having children and getting married and I’m comfortable with that decision. I feel that I wasn’t designed for that type of life but I also think there’s nothing wrong with that type of life.
My parents fight all the time and then take it out on me and my siblings. Sometimes it would be better if they just divorced. Their marriage ruined the idea of marriage and kids for me but on the other hand, I’m already scared of being old and alone. So I feel like I should get married just to have company when I get old and start dying. Idk what to do and I’m only 18. I have so much time! 😭
Whitneyooo This choice is just personally for me. I’m okay with not getting married or having kids and I’m 21. I work in a nursing home and many women in there were just like me and went through life and choose not to go down the married with kids route and are fine with that decision. I honestly think that if you choose to get married, you’ll know what to do and what not to do bc of your parents. Everyone isn’t the same. Live your life the way you want and everything else will fall into place.
Stats show women who are not married have lower levels of mental illness and higher life satisfaction compared to women who are married (source: Trick Mirror by Jia Tolentino). 100% support and admire your decision. Not that you need it, but it’s important to empower women expressing alternate hopes for themselves.

Well I take my hat off to you and any other woman out there deciding for themselves what they want for their life. I couldn’t recommend the book Trick Mirror enough if you are surrounded by people who do force their opinions about marriage on you. Which to my mind would be most women as societal pressures are inescapable. Tolentino looks at the history of marriage and weddings and actually debunks some myths I wasn’t aware of like where the white dress came from.

They’re still together and at this point they’ll probably just grow old together because it’s “the easier way out”. I am married myself but their marriage has taught me everything NOT to do in my own. I will never sacrifice my or my kids’ happiness for my spouse. PERIOD.

I was married at 25. It was all about being his wife. I was the bread winner taking care. Love was so blind. It’s been 7 years now and I’m not bothered with marriage. I definitely agree with everything Jackie said about being married at 21. Fresh out of college and back in a different country. I got married at 21 and never again would I put my self second. I missed out on so many opportunities and then ofcourse we separated. Now I’ll be 23 next month focused on my career and completing my CPA and 10x happier than I ever was while being married. I will say I learnt a lot of life lessons though from being married young. Taking time and enjoying my self

I think I’m a weird parent b/c what I want for my daughter is...For her to be able to wake up, be happy with her life, be able to take care of herself and just enjoy life. THAT’S what I want for my baby 🥰 Seeing her genuinely happy with her life is going to make me so proud 😭

Sis, I felt this. My husband took 10 years to propose, and the whole time his family and mine complained about "when are y'all gonna get married?". Now we've been married over a year (and we work for his parents) and we hear all the time, nearly on a weekly basis or more "when are y'all gonna give us grand-babies?" "I guess when I ever become a grandparent... " "Oh I wouldn't know about being a grandparent... " . I mean seriously!?
It makes me want to turn around and be like, "with that attitude... NEVER!". It's well intentioned, and I know they're excited at the idea... but we've also got our own goals. We haven't even hit our thirties and we've never really traveled and we work 40+ hours / week to afford a comfortable life and a house but like... we wanna live!
Anyways, I feel that. Their well intentioned timelines aren't necessarily what I want out of life.

I’m 22 and feel blessed to live in this time of self love and realizing our self worth outside of marriage and having kids. I’ll admit that internally I still struggle with defining my self worth outside of dating/relationships/being wanted or pursued. I remember a major theme in your other video was that it’s okay to not have it “together” in your 20s and it’s so true! Yesssss! I got married when I was 25 and my husband was 21 we just celebrated 10 years. As soon as we got married we immediately got asked when we're having children, like bruh the ink is barely dried on the marriage certificate lol. To all the women married or not who don't want to have kids, want to have kids later in life, It's okay! Do you!
Dani's Life your story gives me another level of confidence, as I’m attracted to young men. It’s not something I seek, I’ll be 30 in two months. If you see me in person you won’t even think I’m 21, much less 29. I think that’s one of the reason why I attract young men, on the other side I never find myself attracted to older men. If I do it’s only one or two years older

Girl, I am doing so much better. I am mentally and emotionally healthier now! I have met someone who supports and takes care of me in a way I’ve never experienced. I learned so much about myself going through my divorce and have become a stronger person from that experience. It took me some time but I finally learned how to use my voice and make decisions for myself and only myself. A big reason I got married young was pressure from my family (and society) thinking it would make everyone happy and maybe make myself happy. It didn’t. Now I only do things that bring joy and the things I value most. Thanks for checking in :)

Our parents are a big problem to most of the stresses we pass tru in marriage. They want you to do it their way!
Needed this video so much. It’s like a God-send. Today I made the decision to move to another state for my career and it’s scary but necessary for me. This reassured me that it’s okay for me to decide that for myself and I shouldn’t be in a rush to do everything else (marriage, kids, etc) like my family pressures me to do.
