Chris cooked a steak by drumming on it. I baked cookies while playing a live show... Will you start a very niche restaurant with me where we only make our food while playing drums?
Chris Turner, the only man to causally play 'Bleed" by Meshuggah in order to cook a steak. kids, this is what one would call, true magic. also, I am now altering my steak preferences moving forward... if the steak cannot be cooked with 40,000+ kick drum kicks, I don't want it.
I've just got back from walking the dog in the park, watched this and was surprised to see you did this at the Bracebridge, which is literally where I've just come from! 😂
Dont know if youll ever see this Chris but I noticed you pull the rubber clip tight on your IEMs cable whilst youre playing. If you wrap a small bit of electrical tape around each cable below where you pull the rubber tight to, it was stop slipping down and coming loose.
Dude!! This was so fun to watch!! Love the samples and bringing in snare and cymbals to play to songs, while your boys hopped on and kept the beaters going🤘🏼🥁 Love the video!! Restaurant looks great too. We’ll have to grab a bite when I’m over there.
Physicist breakdown: *Data* Specific heat capacity of beef, C = 1670 J/(kg K) Initial temperature = 22°C Final temperature = 53°C Temperature change, ΔT = 31 K Estimated mass of steak, m = 0.34 kg Number of kick drum hits, n = 55,000 *Analysis* Energy required for temperature change, E = mCΔT E = 0.34 × 1670 × 31 = 17602.8 J Energy imparted to steak by each hit is *at least* 17602.8/55000 = 0.32 J At 130 bpm, this is equivalent to a power output of 0.69 W. For comparison, a typical microwave oven has a power rating of 750 W.
Hell yea! Great maths :) however, 0.69W this isn’t the power generated at pedals, as the system is very inefficient. So to make it a fair comparison to the power output of the microwave we would need to figure this out!
@@ChrisTurnerDrums Absolutely. I think the biggest heat loss is the steak quickly radiating away the heat you're transferring into it. By my estimation, about 10 J is lost every second to the environment through this process*. inevitably there's heat lost due to friction between moving parts in the pedal as well, plus heat radiated from the muscles in your legs. I made a spreadsheet :) * Assuming the steak's mass is 0.34 kg, its density is 1040 kg/m³ and it's 2.5 cm thick, the area on it's largest face is about 0.013 m², or 0.026 m² when we include both sides. The Stefan-Boltzmann Law calculates the power radiated as heat from a warm object. Using the average temperature of the steak during the experiment (288.5 K) this gives a power output of 10.3 W. If the steak could be thermally insulated, you could cook it approximately 15 times faster. Playing at higher tempos has 2 benefits - faster transfer of energy but also less time for the steak to radiate away the heat its gained. When you increased from 130 to 150 bpm you were cooking faster but also becoming more efficient. What do you think your max tempo is?
Chris, I have your course and it is super cool and I saw that there could be a video of your double stroke bass drum rolls. Does that exist or is it lost media? I love You Chris x4000 ❤
Hey, thanks so much for getting the course!!! I really hope you enjoyed it and progressed a lot from it :) I’ve not made the session as sadly not enough people requested it, but maybe I will in the future! :)
really putting the butcha in butcha boys! also, never thought i'd see Chris Turner beat meat for 114 minutes but i guess there's a first for everything... (in all seriousness great video hahaha)
You gotta do a cover of hunting season in my opinion it probably has some of the best drumming outa all of your guys songs. Ive yet to see anyone play it
That's a beefy kick drum sound! Perfect when you played the meat and potatoes groove to "Beat It". Love it! Much love to you Chris!
😂😂😂 Hope you’re doing well mate, sending my best!

You're a legend, thanks for your hard work

😂😂😂
The flex of playing at 130bpm for a LONG time and then starting to cook a meal with your hands and then raising the bpm TWICE is unbelievable
I appreciate you saying this, cus it was deffo a lot of effort 😂 thanks for watching too🙌🏻
"Beat It" was the only acceptable song when you're playing with meat
I was like, is that too obvious or spot on? 😂😂😂
@@ChrisTurnerDrums Spot on IMO
or the weird al parody "eat it"
idk, bleed seems pretty damned appropriate as well... particularly when beating meat for hour+ periods of time xD
