There have even been pairs from the same season - Marcus was close friends with Crystal's cousin, and Ali and Patrick were part of the same friend group in college.
I actually wish the sit out rule would be even more strict. I wish it were that a person can not sit out a second challenge unless everyone on their tribe has sat out at least one challenge.
I think it could matter if they continue with small six person tribes. If one tribe loses the first two challenges and the other two tribes have to keep sitting out multiple players they will eventually be forced to sit out a strong player and maybe make the playing field more equitable.
Everyone’s got different strengths and weaknesses, why shouldn’t those who aren’t so good at challenges get a break from embarrassing themselves? If the other tribes don’t like it, they just have to stop losing and the numbers advantage will disappear.
I like this idea. Maybe add some flexibility by allowing a player to sit out twice before everyone sits out. It gets more difficult when a tribe has to sit out multiple players. Either way, I think this rule is a step in the right direction as it prevents weaker players from sitting out every time.
One I can think of is Russell Hantz changing where idols are hidden. Each idol pre Russell hantz was hidden somewhere close to an iconic set piece. Think archway for china, the cave in figi, inside the tree for Samoa. And using that logic it was super easy for Russell to narrow down his search and find idols without clues. Now they are hidden in random locations like in trees, or buried in the middle of a path or even in set pieces you would never expect like in the tarp.
I thought the “cirie wins micronesia, shane is on HvV, and one world is less racist” was just some random uncorrelated “what if” gag NOT ALL LEGITIMATE “WHAT IFS”
Imagine if the Mitchell vote-off was after the Hidden Immunity Idol was introduced. He or someone in his alliance could have played an idol on him and Survivor history could have been very different, keeping in mind how many returnees from that season have been asked back.

I read somewhere that production didn't know how to settle deadlock ties when the Keith/Mitchell vote happened, and that they sat around for an hour until they came up with the "past votes" rule on the spot (knowing Mitchell had a prior vote). If this is true, then Mitchell definitely deserved another shot, especially considering they ditched this rule soon after.

Danny McCray is the fan's hero, had he not had such a strong reaction to it Jeff almost certainly doesn't permanently retire the hourglass twist after 42.
The only quitter I could see that actually had a shot to make it to the jury phase, and still br considered to serve on the Jury is Matthew in Survivor 44. Dude gave it his all despite his injury, and in my opinion doesn't deserve to be labeled as a quitter. His whole situation bugs me, because it's the only situation where it feels like medical was pushing him to quit. I think about this moment a lot, because of that, it makes me think about behind the scenes rules for medical. I'm paraphrasing from memory, but they said something along the lines of "this could develop into a lifelong injury, but we only pull people in it's life threatening." Even though they aren't "life threatening" dislocated and broken bones should be grounds for evacuation. Because of those types of injuries, James and Stephanie couldn't really compete during HvV, and Matthew was pressured to quit to avoid permanent damage. The only person to break a bone and be evacuated is Kourtney, and keeping players too long after a game ending injury results in Missy.
I may be remembering this wrong, but isn't Claire the reason the sit-out benches became further apart in 45/46? I vaguely remember her asking someone else who was sitting out about the journey/advantage to confirm things, and then the sit out benches being further apart afterwards so people couldn't do that anymore.
@@FlaggedALot they did, but if you look at the difference between the conversations: the benches in 46 were wayyyy further apart, probably in order to lower the chance that the discussion could become strategic. If you're that far apart, you wouldn't be able to whisper and the other players could probably hear you. Nothing Liz and Moriah said was strategic in nature.

The vote thing could be solved by changing the urn. In Survivor Argentina, the urn had a little slot like a piggy bank where castaways would insert their ballot, so they didn't need to open the urn from the lid.

Claire is so underrated in the New Era. She weaponized sit-outs so she would never be blamed for an immunity challenge loss, and also used the benches to strategise with other tribes' players to build potential post-merge connections. Her ability to think outside the box with these instances were honestly great. She had huge potential.

Ironic how Probst himself preached about not leaving everything up to chance when he and his team have literally set up the game nowadays to favor the chance route.
