One thing that makes me laugh a bit on the Millennials vs Gen X showdown is hearing after, the reason Will or Jessica didn't flip on the revote is because each of them thought the other would. I do agree in South Pacific that Ozzy probably should've played the Idol on Cochran, but I also think Cochran should've known he couldn't infiltrate a cult that was willing to go to rocks on a disadvantage. Plus, if Savaii gets advantage, Jim probably gets "big-move-itis" which could help Cochran.
@@roger_towny_jr For what it's worth, Christine said post-show that she probably would've taken her chances with Upolu. So, for Savaii it was "the devil you know versus the devil you don't".
Kind of weird on how David and Zeke lead both their alliances to draw rocks at the final 10 of Millennials vs Gen X and when both of them returned for future seasons they both got voted out at the final 10.
So here are a couple of things that came to mind... In regards to Will flipping immediately after the rock draw, I've heard (though I'm not sure how credible it is) that he was considering flipping on the revote to avoid rocks, but didn't in the end because he was afraid that someone from the other side would also flip, thus negating his own flip and sending them to rocks anyway. As for Cochran, despite probably not being a good strategic move, I've never really blamed him for flipping. The other members of his tribe/alliance, except for maybe Dawn, never treated him respectfully, and despite their insistence that they benevolently kept him around, the real reason he was still in the game at that point was because Jim saw him as more useful to his own game than Semhar, Mark or Elyse. By staying loyal, Cochran had a random 1/7 chance at going home in 12th place (and the only other Savaii who was risking the rock draw was, ironically, Jim), and by flipping, he had a guaranteed chance at 8th place. He basically said screw it and wasn't going to chance it for those people, and took a guaranteed middle placement.
I've always thought that if Savaii had just used their idol on Cochran to make him feel more safe, he wouldn't have flipped. But I'm glad he did, because his tribe treated him like garbage (except for Dawn). And we got to see him come back a second time and dominate!
I never understood why Survivor removed the "past votes" rule. It's always seemed to me like a solid, fair tiebreaker. And the strategy of voting for someone you know has past votes doesn't seem any worse than any other repeated strategy I know in the show.
It was quite interesting in S3, I thought. Combining it with the advent of mid-premerge swaps opened up all sorts of intrigue. Add to that the paranoia it provokes with the need to avoid being targeted even if you have nothing to fear that round, and it does make things very interesting indeed. Idols probably would have been the end of it, though.
I agree. I like the fundamental idea that votes are the most basic weapon in the game. A single vote early on can influence the outcome of the entire game. It’s possible that a reason they changed it is so viewers don’t feel like they need to keep track of past votes. As we’re seeing in more modern seasons, it’s annoying and exhausting trying to keep track of who possesses idols, advantages, etc. The drama and fun are heightened when it feels like a clean slate for each tribal council cycle. The exception is individual immunity, which has a clear visual indicator in the form of the necklace.
I agree from a gameplay perspective that it is interesting, and I personally would enjoy it more than rock draws and random chance. But I’d bet the decision came from a tv entertainment perspective. If we know two people are getting votes and that one has previous votes, there’s no suspense on who’s going. And it’s kind of anticlimactic for Jeff to just reveal, “Well, this person has more votes from past tribals, so that breaks the tie.” I also feel like the show loves the idea of underdogs and comebacks, and if you’re continuously haunted by votes from tribals where you survived, it makes it that much harder for a comeback story to occur. So while perhaps less fair, I think the mindset of “leave the past in the past, every tribal is a new thing” is helpful in this regard.
I appreciate reinforcing that even with all the other things you can trash Varner for, giving up immunity for peanut butter and chocolate when he knew Ogakor was going to vote for him is the most underrated dumb move in the show's history.
I know that most people probably won’t have noticed it or cared at ALL but I am SO grateful that you referred to Cagayan’s merge alliances as Tony’s alliance vs Spencer AND Tasha’s alliance. I feel like a LOT of people would’ve just called it Spencer’s alliance. Which, while I haven’t watched the season since it originally aired, I always felt like Spencer and Tasha became a pretty tight duo throughout the season, with Tasha being every bit as strong of a player as Spencer. (Didn’t she win like 3 Individual Immunities that season?! In a row?!?!) To be fair, I am a bit biased as Tasha was my favorite player in Cagayan. I was so bummed with her game in Second Chances after the merge. She went from a big power player in the pre merge to more of a puppet once she was able fully link up with Spencer and Jeremy. But, hey, she still played a much better game than most people ever could and that absolutely includes me. LOL. At the very least, she had two hella loyal and strong peeps as her core alliance which assured her a spot in the Top 3! And that ain’t so bad! LOL. Soooo, thanks again for acknowledging what a kick ass and powerful player she was on Cagayan! Had Kass not flipped, I’d imagine there would’ve been a damn good chance of a Tasha/Kass or Tasha/Spencer final 2 with hella good odds of a Tasha win!
One thing I find very hard to watch is when one of the few jury questions she gets to field is about a move she made and she says it was getting herself under Spencer’s protection. The way she survived being swapped into the minority on the expansion tribe was magnificent, why didn’t she invoke that?
Millennials v Gen X was probably the fastest and cutthroat strategy based game where blindsides and alliances were always planning something since Cambodia

@@antoineharris3426 The idea of voting out your best teammate to win and rejoin keeping another number in your alliance is smart. They butchered it but the idea is solid.

How about seasons in which it was terrible to be a man (seasons in which men get chopped in fairly easy succession or just reduced heavily during the pre-merge and parts of the merge phase, like Vanuatu, even though a man still won, Guatemala, Micronesia, and Game Changers), and seasons in which it was terrible to be a woman (same concept except with seasons in which women dropped like flies, such as Fiji, Gabon, Millennials vs. Gen-X, and 43?)
Debb married her stepson Varner became transphobic Elisabeth was the token conservative heel on The View Skupin went to prison for possession of CP Kimmi compared vaccine mandates to the Holocaust Biggie was fat
Mike and Varner did... very bad things Elizabeth lost some fans for her outspoken political views on the View show Debb married her stepson, which I am pretty iffy on given it seems like they met while he was fairly young, I could be wrong on this one Kimmi was Islamophobic on twitter? forget exactly what bigotry it was so that's a guess, someone factcheck me on that? Island of the Idols also had them but not a lot of people were fans of the whole Dan and Kellee situation which was made even worse when Kellee’s side lost with Jamal, Karishma and Janet all ending up on the outside Janet really only made it as far as she did since she couldn’t win immunity and Dean had the nullifier

post swap Aparri did it to themselves by not listening to Kass originally despite having the numbers and instead listening to Sarah to target the bigger threats in LJ or Tony if they listened to Kass and targeted Jefra [which they did AFTER Tony pulled out an idol] or Trish outright, Kass was never going to flip at this tribal not sure why Will flipped on his alliance the next episode but David nearly sunk his game with this tribal council as Hannah told him to play his idol for her but he instead listened to Adam to play it for Ken which led to Jessica getting rocked out which would have never happened if David listened to Hannah [there's a page on top 50 idol plays where this idol play is ranked dead last and for good reason] the Josh v Jeremy alliance showdown was so highly anticipated but it leading to the back to back eliminations of the two leaders was so insane since no one knew who was going to win this season following the two obvious front runners being the first two jury members if Savaii just made Cochran feel even 3% more comfortable he would have gone to rocks for this tribe at the merge; instead everyone on Savaii [minus Dawn I believe] basically lambasted Cochran after Ozzy gave up his game to give them a fighting chance at the merge; this obviously was not going to go over well with Cochran who [rightfully] defected to Upolu after Ozzy misplayed the idol on Whitney which gave him full opportunity to flip [if Ozzy had played the idol for Cochran instead I wonder if Cochran feels safe going to rocks since Whitney now takes his place as one of two Savaii members to draw rocks or if he would still flip]
Cochran flipping was the wrong move you think? I always thought that was so obvious and smart and his mistake was owning the vote right away. He basically was given no respect on his tribe and they basically always reminded him that he was on the outside. So at worst he’s in same spot on other tribe
What’s funny is I suspect Cochran would’ve been better off from a longevity standpoint by not flipping. I suspect Ozzy would’ve quickly realized that Jim and the couple were not going to keep him far past final 6 and therefore Dawn and Cochran would be valuable allies for him.
If only there was a player that had a very diverse background. Maybe were a fast food worker, business owner, actor, model, marine biologist, and perhaps even studied psychology and taught somewhere along the line. He or she would be the greatest survivor player alliance member ever

Honestly the plan was as bad as JT giving Russell the hidden immunity idol. Think about it, if you really did😮like Ozzy why would you blindside the biggest challenge beast literally one duel before the merge?
@@antoineharris3426 The idea of voting out your best teammate to win and rejoin keeping another number in your alliance is smart. They butchered it but the idea is solid.
I think it was impressive and bold (and super hype), but Ozzy put a lot of stock in his acting ability and Cochran's own security in the tribe, and he should have known better that neither of those were up to snuff
Why were the Kucha's cursed? Did something happen after the show?
Debb married her stepson
Varner became transphobic
Elisabeth was the token conservative heel on The View
Skupin went to prison for possession of CP
Kimmi compared vaccine mandates to the Holocaust
Biggie was fat
Mike and Varner did... very bad things
Elizabeth lost some fans for her outspoken political views on the View show
Debb married her stepson, which I am pretty iffy on given it seems like they met while he was fairly young, I could be wrong on this one
Kimmi was Islamophobic on twitter? forget exactly what bigotry it was so that's a guess, someone factcheck me on that?
Alicia was on All-Stars :(
@@samanderson5774Nick lost his campaign for Washington Attorney General.
How is Hero’s vs villains not on here at all?
God remember when stable alliances where a thing and they clashed??? Last time that genuinely happened was David vs Goliath
Island of the Idols also had them but not a lot of people were fans of the whole Dan and Kellee situation which was made even worse when Kellee’s side lost with Jamal, Karishma and Janet all ending up on the outside
Janet really only made it as far as she did since she couldn’t win immunity and Dean had the nullifier
I hate the new meta with voting blocks
A clash of stable alliances will generally give you one very intense episode followed by multiple rounds that are predictable snoozefests. The new system means something thrilling _might_ happen at any time, even though it often doesn’t. On balance I think I prefer the latter.
@@aperson22222 The new meta is just people doing unanimous votes for as long as possible, then the biggest perceived threats get chopped f9-f5 and then the endgame is full of people that have done nothing
Just curious, what's the rationale for either Rodger or Alicia winning AO if Kucha has majority at the merge?
Nobody likes Varner and he’d be seen as the figurehead of the alliance, Rodger had Elizabeth as an unbreakable #1 ally, Nick was a bit of an outsider, and Alicia had the best chance of winning out from the final 5
If Rodger got to final 2, he surely wins.
the no.0 at the end should have been Heroes vs Villains
South Pacific could’ve been so different!
Or just a Pagonging the other way around.
@@roger_towny_jr Most likely but no cult leader! I do feel like Sophie would still find a way to win!
@@roger_towny_jrno way with how hard Jim was playing it would have been a standard pagoning.
I like SoPa more than most, but it would be way better if Savaii took power at the merge. Jim was recklessly overplaying so hard that the Upolu Pagonging would last two votes tops
@@IdoledOut I agreed with that! I think would have well. Sophie she still could find a way to get into crack and win because now jury will be mostly her tribe.
No way heroes vs villains isn’t on here
Moto versus Ravu. Ravu wins in the end but with Moto deflection ions ensuring Earl pulled it off. They led the charge when th beey were down in numbers. Most don't like the blowout but yeah. China's Zhang Hu versus Fei Long is more epic but yeah.
post swap Aparri did it to themselves by not listening to Kass originally despite having the numbers and instead listening to Sarah to target the bigger threats in LJ or Tony
if they listened to Kass and targeted Jefra [which they did AFTER Tony pulled out an idol] or Trish outright, Kass was never going to flip at this tribal
not sure why Will flipped on his alliance the next episode but David nearly sunk his game with this tribal council as Hannah told him to play his idol for her but he instead listened to Adam to play it for Ken which led to Jessica getting rocked out which would have never happened if David listened to Hannah [there's a page on top 50 idol plays where this idol play is ranked dead last and for good reason]
the Josh v Jeremy alliance showdown was so highly anticipated but it leading to the back to back eliminations of the two leaders was so insane since no one knew who was going to win this season following the two obvious front runners being the first two jury members
if Savaii just made Cochran feel even 3% more comfortable he would have gone to rocks for this tribe at the merge; instead everyone on Savaii [minus Dawn I believe] basically lambasted Cochran after Ozzy gave up his game to give them a fighting chance at the merge; this obviously was not going to go over well with Cochran who [rightfully] defected to Upolu after Ozzy misplayed the idol on Whitney which gave him full opportunity to flip [if Ozzy had played the idol for Cochran instead I wonder if Cochran feels safe going to rocks since Whitney now takes his place as one of two Savaii members to draw rocks or if he would still flip]
I suspect Ozzy would’ve quickly realized that Jim and the couple were not going to keep him far past final 6 and therefore Dawn and Cochran would be valuable allies for him.
disappointed to hear not enough kucha jokes :(

If only there was a player that had a very diverse background. Maybe were a fast food worker, business owner, actor, model, marine biologist, and perhaps even studied psychology and taught somewhere along the line. He or she would be the greatest survivor player alliance member ever
Not so much, her own alliance cut her rather than vote for one of the most obnoxious pairs of villains ever seen.
so why was it they switched from previous votes to drawing rocks for tie votes? i never liked the rock draw, and i was heartbroken seeing jessica become collateral damage from the zeke/david showdown. they should've kept the previous vote tiebreaker so then we wouldn't have to witness such devastating vote outs like jessica
That’s actually why I like rocks, it motivates people to actually cut their allies loose or face the consequences of random elimination
Jessica could have flipped but she didn’t and she pays the price
@@XanderMatthews-nv9zf rocks suck 100%. jessica didn't deserve that at all 🖕🪨
@@lafingscarecrow she deserved it for not flipping, I doubt she would have shed any tears had Bret or Sunday drawn the black rock

the MvGX situation was dumb, game botty, and annoying. It solidified Zeke and David as some of the most annoying characters ever. Flop boring season.
I thought that I was the only person ever annoyed by David. He got way more screen time than justified that season.
