I remember being in the Royal Air Force at Brize Norton in the early 80's and his mysterious black plane had to land with an emergency fault. The tail has a silhouette of his face on it... A memorable sight.
It’s often painful to watch aged performers, trying to recreate what they were doing in their youth. None of that on show here and still full of youthful exuberance. Well done, Gary.
Reminds me of Lestat in Queen of the Damned Music and visually. Gary Numan has been making some awesome music for a long time. I remember Cars when it first came out. My favorite song? th-cam.com/video/22Z4Tv1zn-s/w-d-xo.html definitely
Come to think of it, that is the same thing he was doing when he made the synth version! :) *coming out of the Guitar centric 60's-70's :) He not only manages to follow trends but sometimes set them too. That said it is weird to see him performing in the broad daylight!!! :) LOL
@WoodysAR The drummer and bass player on The Pleasure Principle (Cedric Sharpley and Paul Gardiner, respectively) were a solid rhythm section. IMHO the fact that Gary chose to use real instruments (instead of a Moog synth bass and a LinnDrum drum machine) made those tracks what they were. RIP Cedric and Paul.
I’ve been a Gary Numan fan since I was 15 and first heard “are friends electric”, in 1979. If I recall correctly, in an interview, back then, he said that he composed on an old piano that had been out in the weather so it no longer held tune or sounded much like a piano. He also said he was going to do music for only another two or three years and then go back to being a pilot. Looks like he remained a musician and the world is much richer for it.
They absolutely stole the show, in my opinion!!! I was only expecting to see Iggy Pop and Siouxsie for the makeup show, but I was extremely happy to find out Gary Numan was performing too!
3:46 *Love those ending chords on the keyboard from the song "M.E". on this same album, which I bought in 1979 (well my parents must've bought it - I was only 12 then!!!)*
So many memories after seeing him (with Ubeway Army at the time for the album Down in the park) in Paris, at the Palace in 1980, I was 17 and it was my first concert! Also very happy to hear a recent version of "Metal"! I always enjoy the album The Pleasure Principle!
Love it absolutely brilliant the best electronic man in the hole would I am a big big big fan of Mr Gary numan I have all his CDs and vinyl and DVD 🎤🎹🎹🎹🎹🥁🎸
I fell in love with him when I was 13/14 years old,you can always spot a really unique charismatic person & he definitely is that ❤ also he must have the essence of eternal youth by gosh he only looks about 38 what a lovely man,Paula,Liverpool x
@@RosieHarp i've seen him multiple times over the last few decades - his performance is always on point. I love that his music seems as timeless now as ever before. I find the vanity of aging musicians (and anyone really) sometimes baffling.
I remember when he first came onto the music scene... I completely disregarded him then. BUT... as years go by, my own interests developed and really... this guy just gets better and better. Brilliant stuff Gary.... 😃
Gary is an absolute legend! Such an amazing performer. He is a credit and example of how to deal with the aging process. What is there not to admire about Gary. A fantastic video.
His stage presence rules and his voice is still great, what an absolute champion. He's having so much fun, it's great to see.
Really?, sounds like shit to me.
@@jazznutz Really? This is how you're spending your Tuesday night?
Gary was the best Cruel World surprise. Completely stole the show.
Agreed! Was fuckin amazing!
Better then Love and Rockets even?
Gary is most definitely a show stealer . 🖤
Yes I was definitely surprised. He definitely got a new fan after all these decades
@@baratheda777 million times better
Gary is one of the best live performers I’ve ever seen, incredible show
Yeah he is, can’t wait to see him next month
Gary is the prime example of find what you love doing and do it for the rest of your life.
He's not doing bad for a dude in his 60's. 😃
i disagree. he should put his efforts into something else. this is a sad thing to watch....... so tired
I knew Gary personally back in the 80's. I was an aircraft engineer on warbirds and he use to fly with us on many occasions to airshows etc.
That's awesome.
Wow! That's really cool!
@@emp12345 he has a book?

Bought his album in 79. I have to say primarily because I was already a die hard Bowie fan. Very talented artist.
I’m lovin the post apocalyptic Mad Max look of the band.
Trent did it 30 years ago
Without Gary there would be no Trent.
Also true
@neighborhoodmusicsnob5517
Who do you think influenced Trent? This guy named Gary.....
Certainly has a madmax feel.
The fact that he's heading towards 70 and still moving like he does is incredible.
Not long turned 65 but i know what you mean,..My knees dont work that well and I'm younger !
THAT IS....CAUSE HE IS LEAVING IN ANOTHER DESERT PLANET....not here...always was...THAT'S WHY I LIKE HIM.....FROM THE BIGGINING...!

This was the B-side to the "Cars" single, on 45 rpm vinyl. Owned it. Loved it. Thanks for posting!
Asylum. Me thinks.
@@justgoclockwise2499 Maybe on some versions of the single. But I very distinctly remember 'Metal' being on the B-side of the 45 that I owned.
