My setup is a little different. You plug a fat PS3 into a VCR, then wirelessly send any video you want through a universal media server, then you hit record & rip the VHS tape you make. With a strong enough antennae you could also boost the RF out from the back of some VCRs.

That sounds incredible! Currently I got some old vga to composite video converters coming in that I plan on doing something similar with! The console never occurred to me though. Although I use my xbox 360 for visualizer overlays when i play with live vhs amv mixing. xD

@@The_Smuggler_ I think the endgame is gonna be taping into the RF test points on a VCR to inject video directly (those places you see marker sometimes). You could probably do some cool livestream stuff that way.

That's a neat Idea! But I think peak live stream VHS aesthetic would be dismantling 2 VCRs and feeding the tape through both machines concurrently. That way the first machine would write the input and you could capture from the composite out of the second machine. haha

If the vista machine is capturing an RF signal, would you be able to capture the full Hi-Fi Stereo of these tapes with this method without downmixing?

    • @The_Smuggler_
      @The_Smuggler_  ปีที่แล้ว +3

With this card through the Coax you can get Hi-Fi stereo but it also supports SAP capture. I'm not to familiar with the audio side of the equation but I know you'll get better audio out of a composite capture setup. The audio info from the file reads as this:
      Audio
      ID : 2
      Format : MPEG Audio
      Format version : Version 1
      Format profile : Layer 2
      Duration : 31 min 22 s
      Bit rate mode : Constant
      Bit rate : 384 kb/s
      Channel(s) : 2 channels
      Sampling rate : 48.0 kHz
      Compression mode : Lossy
Delay relative to video : -222 ms
      Stream size : 86.2 MiB (5%)
Hope this helps answer your question!

I'm guilty of buying and using one of these cards back in 2001. I even bought it Fry's (RIP).
I loved watching TV and VHS on my computer.

Thats awesome! After dealing with alot of modern capture devices I find myself impressed with how intuitive and well this works in comparison. would've like to be around when these things saw wide spread use. I worked at an ecycle depot back in 2016 and I pulled an ATI coaxial card from a computer n thought... wait I can do that!? so When I saw this I knew what needed to be done. lol

Ikr! Seems we peaked at Vista n have been moving backward ever since. xD Actually, that's a lie since Windows 7 also supported this.

@@The_Smuggler_ Windows 7 was peak. Not that there's anything wrong with making windows compete in the tablet space but at every step it's failed. And even after 4 Windows Generations later we're still suffering the consequences of those actions.
