  • During self isolation I take the chance to run you guys through my preferred choice of gear (and why) for nymphing on our rivers. I run through rods, reels, lines, leaders, tippet and flies as briefly as I can. Remember the gear you enjoy and feel comfortable using will always be the best for you! Not just for nymphing but any form of fly fishing!
I also make an error discribing the leader diameters at one point, it is as follows:
    - 10 feet of .18 or .20mm coloured mono
    - 50cm of .18 clear mono
    - 40cm of .18 indicator mono
    - 2mm tippet ring

Awesome videos Tom, keep up the good work, could you do some videos on the other leader setups/formulas you use for dry fly, dry dropper, fishing lakes etc? Thanks again

I just fished coming out of lockdown with a mate, and thought my 0.25mm leader/sighter setup was great, but can see the added finesse, reduced sag and better contact with 0.18mm setup. Just changed over, using Pezon material.👍🏽

Hi Tom, just a quick question, when you splice your fly line with the needle, do you use the super glue splice method?

Love your vids! Your .18mm is approx 4x. ..Are you using sighter material or mono? If mono, what kind and what pound test is your .18mm? I’m assuming 4 lb test? (I’m in the US)

Yeah so .18 is around 6lb ish. Yeah so using coloured mono. There are a few brands to look at and they all have different colours: Varivas, Sunline, Deveaux, Cortland and Pezon Michel

Tom, I have a mate that uses 20lb maxima chameleon instead of flyline for fishing the streams, eg kiewa. What’s your view on this compared to using flyline? Pros and cons thx mate.
