I would spend a night in any tent. Rain or shine. Your content helps people get out and try on a budget. That’s the point!! You don’t need to spend a fortune. 🙌
It never ceases to amaze me that people assume that everyone is loaded with money when they first go camping and can afford a three figure tent, sleeping bag and all of the toys. My first tent was £29.99 from famous army stores, and I paid for that from my paper round over a few weeks, and bought a hexi stove, mess tins and a sleeping bag that cost me £40 from an army surplus store. You have got to start somewhere no matter what you are doing. Keep doing the videos mate, thanks for posting
Excellent video, it gave me a good laugh. For a mid range tent have a look at the Slumit cub 2, it’s a pull up exoskeleton tent. Easy to put up, weather proof, plenty of room, there are videos on my channel of when I was using one.
I do not understand why anyone would complain about your videos of low-cost kit. I mean, if they don't like the video, stop watching, delete, and unsubscribe! Personally I find these videos very useful when I'm thinking about camping kit. Keep going, Dan!
This is just my opinion but this starter kit is just fine if you want to get out and enjoy yourself. The only thing I would add is a tarp to cover the tent as a rain fly as the door has no protection from rain. Carry on Dan ! Florida, USA
Reading festival on the news, really boiled my fish..... thousands of tents left in the field. I was soooo angry that many people could be so thoughtless for the countryside.
Watching this from my make do bed in my car. Split from the mrs of 24yrs and luckily I have a car to sleep in for now but think I’ll have to go down the tent route soon because diesel prices 😢
I would definitely, and to the woman who said what she did, how rude, I think its amazing that your videos cater for all campers, keep doing it your way my friend x
Thanks buddy not everyone's got bags of money, of course it's a good idea as a first timer it's not for everyone but a set up like this isn't gonna break the bank Cheers mukka
This tent is in the style we had years ago: ours were made of sturdier material and cost more. Wind, rain, and condensation were problems but some shelter was better than none. This one beats a tarp in that it has a bug screen. The butane stove is champion: that and your little lamp should be in the home for power outage backup. We have had the like of them for years.
hi dan. this budget series is a great idea to introduce people new to camping and the gear involved. after this i feel an intermediate series, with slightly more expensive equipment for those who have found they really enjoy it is worth doing. kind regards.
Nice to see these cheap tents being used, always have a look at them and wonder! Definitely a Kiddy one though. Getting mid range stuff would give a better experience for first timers and if they don’t like it sell on EBay. Great vid, had a laugh. Stay safe Dan atb 👍🦊
Thanks your efforts, you will have helped a lot of people to get started. not all folks have the cash to waste on a trial with top rated gear. my family used to camp and those are the holidays still remembered. Best wishes.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMESS TIN !!! Tent no, everything else yes. There is nothing wrong with that stove. Just the size. Great video. Great enthusiasm. Thank you.
I absolutely have one of those inexpensive butane stoves for car camping! It really does beat the big heavy coleman stove. Your air matress is cracking me up. This budget series is really fun.
Great as always. Ignore the crazy trolls and the hopelessly confused. Keep up the good work. I love the bargain trips £60 - I like the idea of grabbing the kit in a shtf moment. 👍
I'd spend a night in it tents a tent I use an oex bivvy i bought one after watching your review on them brilliant bit of kit keep up the good work mate👍
Good camp Dan. 👍 Nothing wrong with that tent, as long as it's used in the right circumstances (although it appeared a little short for you). It's just a cheap fair weather tent, and if it gets you out (even in the back garden) then it's done its job. I'd imagine some proofing, and going over all the seams etc, could improve the overall weatherproofing, although you wouldn't want to take it up a mountain, or stick it out in a storm. Your videos on budget camping are helpful, and demonstrate that you don't have to spend a fortune to get started. You survived and lived to tell the tale lol. 😉
I carry both a Tent and a Tarp , find that I can use the Tarp to cover the entrance of the Tent , so that I can sit out while it is Raining , and do my Cooking too , just use branches to hold Tarp up at the front .👍
Your a smashing fella, keep doing what your doing my friend. My wife and i have a caravan, but decided to break out the tent. We got a two person tent by decathlon for only £10 and unused. We also got two of those lanterns brand new and about £16. Sleeping bags are 3/4 seasons and the super slim sleeping mats with built in self inflation. Great video.
Before my catastrophic knee injury yes I would spend the night in that tent. Now, I am in the category of "help Ive fallen and I cant get up". Cots for the win my friend.
I've just bought that stove from Home Bargains :-) hope it was ok, as me and my daughter will be camping with it next week lol. I love your videos, so down to earth! Keep them coming!!
Really enjoy your budget camping we first started camping 40years ago with a cheap tent and used this tent for many years we still camp but now in a caravan good on you Dan keep up the great posts greeting from australia
Excellent video! I love that you're trying to teach people to get started with budget gear. I have been camping for years and some of my gear I still buy from Dollarama.
As long as your telling people what to expect from the kit ( which you are doing). Cant see the problem people have with these videos love the channel Dan
Watch 90% of y vids ALL GOOD - especially the budget camping - and im very picky with my subs and youve been one for ages 👍 keep up the good work for EVERYONE not just potato pickers that want to comment ☮️
What a great way to start out but as you said in your video very low grade tent , i satrted out camping last year with a very old tent that i had sat around the garage and still worked for me.
Been an interesting series this. I do think it's time to see some mid range stuff. Maybe stuff that you would recommend out of the mid range stuff. Keep up the good work.
I think the idea of trying to find decent tents on budget places like the buy n sell sites is a great idea, to show just what you could get for cheap. The kettle is an OEX aluminium one I believe.
My first serious tent was a single skin swear box called an "ultimate U2". Came in at three pounds and managed to keep the worst of the weather off of me. Used it for a few years on long distance hikes, festivals and the like. Then the condensation got the better of me and I traded up for a tent with an inner. Have seen a tarp witha beak and an inner for under £100 so would make a good start.
You're so honest and down to earth... We love your advice and *Hater's are always gonna hate, those Hater's are only jealous of you and your channel* 🤣🔥
I still have a stove like that somewhere. The lantern you have I bought one and My partner and I took it camping in her teepee and it's great bright enough and small and light
i just got a 2 pack of mess tins, one fits in the other , i boil water in the smaller one & use the larger one as a lid,, no kettle, more room in your bag 👍
I think that what you are doing with the Giveaways , is great , helping others to enjoy the chance to find out what it is like to Camp out , especially , when they have young children who may like the Adventure !.🙂👍
Hi Dan It's better to have a form of shelter than sleeping out in the open. So yes I would use the tent. Your honest reviews are great giving your subscribers options. The kettle you used is a trangia one. Cheers Mark
I think if you took the same money, you might get a better quality tent used, and the same budget stove and the like. I think your shelter is much more important-and sleep system. I’d spend the majority of my money there. I have a similar stove and I still use it all the time. Thank you for helping encourage folks to get outside.
I think one advantage of the home bargains haul though is that it's much easier for people who don't drive (and people who are really short of money are more likely not to have a car available than the general population). Heck, even if you do drive you've got to figure in fuel money, and if you can get people to post things to you you've got postage and packaging costs and PayPal fees. It can add up really quickly. I bought a rucksack for £5 a few days ago, but it cost me £12 in fuel. Didn't mind because I was planning a long walk anyway, so I just went to that area. But you could argue that "£5" rucksack cost me £17.
it firemaple? Ignore keyboard warriors wot you do is inspirational to people love it!! I struggle with the expense so these videos are so helpful love the fact you've done different budgets!! Keep doing what you do!! 👍
Dan you forgot the tomato sauce .. spread it around inside the tent with you and know how a sardine feels .. lol. Great that you are giving people ideas on just what they can do to try camping. Bushyboy Oz
Good that HB put a flyscreen on the tent to keep out bugs and stuff. I mean, they could have saved money by not doing this! But looks like a good little tent for a couple of nights of summer camping + got ventilation for hot nights!
When I first started camping 20 odd years ago I bought one of those camping sets from Argos..Less than 50 quid for tent 2 sleeping bags and foam mats...got a few trips out of it. Been through loads of different ones. I am now an OEX convert
Personally I'd sleep in it if I had no other choice...I'd wrap up in a tarp/groundsheet if that was all I could afford 😂 Also I like the videos showing budget tents and accessories, I don't have loads of money for the top names so these videos showing us cheaper options that really work...or teaching what doesn't work or is a false economy, brilliant thank you how can it not be a good thing!!!
I have that tent. It is a youth tent. It was $30us...it is the silver and blue fabric which is thicker and blocks light. I live in the Appalachians and take it out for three nights. It is fine. I sleep diagonal....6' 4" It is OK at 8C. It somewhat holds your body heat in (don't know if the green transparent would). Hot in summer unless you line up the door with a breeze. I don't get much moisture due to that skylight mesh. 2lb 4oz or about 1kg. Pitch it anywhere. Easy carry. Super light. Fits in my motorcycle easily. I have a matching 5'x6' tarp (same material) $5 i pitch above the door if it rains. Oh it doesn't leak...except the door. That surprises me. I bought it for a one nighter from a hardware store when it was going to drop low and i wanted just a windbreak. I got to like it. It's probably seen a dozen nights over two years. No tears, no breaks. My pocket stove was $8. My cook kit was $10. A butane can was $5. I use a $3 used yoga pad and a used mummy bag $3 i laundered. $60ish total.
My lad just been to leefs festival glad to say it all came home entact didnt want him ta get a shitty nights kip n wet through..great idea budget camping as ya say its not the best..Nice 1 mate👍👍
Cracking video again Dan these videos are superb for showing what you can alright spend a bit more on the tent ⛺ but the rest of the gear would be fine to start off with .The stove is spot on to have if you have a kid with you low centre of gravity means it don't tip easily and big base for pot to sit on means more stability less chance of it tipping over .I don't have a tent or much of that end of the game but have stoves to use on days out got one of yours and a cracking stove it is but if I have the young ones out I use the same one as that as they are safer using it than the twig or sit on top gas ones just my two penny worth 😉 but if the time comes they want a tent I know who I will come to for advice cheers bud 👍
i went on a school camping experience in the same tent from home bargains and it rained the rain came through the walls and the mesh door i was soaked when i woke up its kinda hard for tall people like me to get in it and sit comftorbally or lie down and spread out it was okay for its price but just not the best it holds a lot of things and i mean 4 suitcases later and i could still get in it xxx went in the bin the next day xxxx
I'd love to know the best next step up kit. What tent would you recommend if budget is key but it needs to do the job, waterproof for a couple nights, enough ventilation for a couple hot nights. Especially OEX but where you can sit up and enough space for two (or one with plenty of space).
Great video as usual pal, great to see you helping others to start their camping adventures even if they are in the back garden, I now use one of the pillows from home bargains, I use it more than any other pillow I have, even the trekology delux, keep up being you mate. atb. 👍🏽👍🏽
people with kit really enter competitions to possibly win starter kits? I found your channel because im trying to find a cheap way to spend some time with my 3 year old outdoors and not in front of a screen! Added bonus that his mother would never camp makes it even more a father and son adventure! Hope you keep these videos up, with everything that is happening at the moment trying to buy anything deemed not essential is difficult but knowing that when I do get the rare bit of spare cash the boy and I cant start looking at getting outdoors is encouraging, even if its only in his grandparents garden for the night. Its a start!
Great job Dan! I think if it were me, I would spend more on the tent and forego the sleeping bag and bring some blankets from home. I think that tent is super scary and in the end a waste. Even if you never camp again it will end up in the garbage. A little more money on a decent tent and you could sell it all as a package and make some money back if you don't like it.
Great tips mate , there Always room for those who can’t afford or testing the camping scene. But nah… personally Can’t stand pop up tents ; dreadful design. I’m a big hot tent fan , I like my luxury and space these days 🤪! Started wild camping on Norway, I’ve now Got a robens Klondike grand with stove . Fishing beds and west lake sleeping bags , reindeer skins .. also got a two man wild camp tent so can push The boat out a bit .. but I’m getting on !!
I been collecting camping gear over the past couple of months, spent more than £400 but I bought good quality slightly used gear. The only stuff I bought new were sleep system. If I'd bought all of it new would of cost more than £1200, managed to get a Terra Nova Comp 1 for £175 from gumtree that were only used twice.
I bought that Nifty little stove for myself the year before last. Even with five cans of fuel it was under $30. No matches needed. For power outages. Don't you have power outages in the UK? We sure do here in Maine!
That tent does the job for garden camping with the kids. Get them interested in the outdoors and if the weather takes a turn for the worst can always go indoors.
You could show people how to fly a tarp over a cheap tent to stay dry. It never hurts to fly a tarp to have an extra place to sit when it rains too. I know you weren’t expecting rain but a lesson works even when it’s dry. Have fun stay safe.
crack on with what your doing dan its good to show all the different stuff whats out there. as ya said with everything other than that tent is good enough for most people to use to get by. exp if its first time campers why spend a lot of money if its not something your gonna love doing in the end.
Hi Dan , I could not see myself in a tent like that ! , When I started out , I had my Parents old 1940's Canvas single skinned Tent , and it was great for 3 seasons ,but never in the winter , that was when I discovered Vango Tents .👍
I would spend a night in any tent. Rain or shine. Your content helps people get out and try on a budget. That’s the point!! You don’t need to spend a fortune. 🙌
you wouldnt last 5 mins in wind or rain, both even
Of course you would I spent 24hrs in torrential rain in a £30 Argos tent in scotland and got about 3 drops of water and not even close to collapsing!
I am binge watching all the videos and I am on the verge of camping at the age of 70 🤣 The channel is an inspiration 😊
Carry on Dan, take no notice your doing a good job 👍 this information is just what someone thinking about taking up camping as a hobby needs.
Balls to the haters, I love the budget camping videos!

Dan as always keep up the great work. Honest reviews of kit is the only way to go.

These videos are excellent for such as myself, I am a total novice on a budget so please keep them up as they are great!! Thank you

Another great upload. How about using a cheap ish tarp over the tent just incase it rains - do you think that’d work? - Emma & Rick 👍🏼
I absolutely have one of those inexpensive butane stoves for car camping! It really does beat the big heavy coleman stove. Your air matress is cracking me up. This budget series is really fun.

I love your videos dan myself and my whole family love to camp.keep up the good work.
Do what makes you happy mate, your heading to 50.000 subscribers so you must be doing something right 👍🏻
I'd spend a night in it tents a tent I use an oex bivvy i bought one after watching your review on them brilliant bit of kit keep up the good work mate👍

You survived and lived to tell the tale lol. 😉
I love these vids Dan, would love to see what 2nd hand gear you could get for a half decent budget. I look forward to the next video mate. Cheers
👍
I carry both a Tent and a Tarp , find that I can use the Tarp to cover the entrance of the Tent , so that I can sit out while it is Raining , and do my Cooking too , just use branches to hold Tarp up at the front .👍
i always carry a tarp its quick to keep you out the rain until it stops and is good back up if your tent gets broken
Hi Dan just a idea how about have a low budget but buy second hand stuff on eBay
Great video Dan. That kettle is an OEX 😁
Thanks!
We all know you want to get back into that mid-range experience. It's nice to see these videos but not at the expense of your camping comfort, cheers!
Fair play Dan..Nothing wrong with showing both ends of the camping spectrum at all.
I've just bought that stove from Home Bargains :-) hope it was ok, as me and my daughter will be camping with it next week lol. I love your videos, so down to earth! Keep them coming!!
Those stoves are brilliant and cheap to run , happy days !
Nothing wrong with them stoves . They do the job just fine.
@@lesliehayton2929 I was also wondering how much gas they take, I've got 4 bottles so I think I'll be ok lol
@@grahamrobinson6455 tried it this afternoon with a tin of soup in the back garden hahaha it worked fine! :-)
Really enjoy your budget camping we first started camping 40years ago with a cheap tent and used this tent for many years we still camp but now in a caravan good on you Dan keep up the great posts greeting from australia

Thanks Dan great that your showing just what can be done on a budget camping is for all👍
As you say it’s good for the kids in the garden if they like it you can then get better stuff great show keep it up
Well done Dan.
Great video showing it us possible to camp on a budget.
One plus side of that tent is it has more headroom then the Phoxx1

Great video English Woodsman keep it up camped a couple of times in a similar tent with my son
I am glad to see you are doing these videos love the content great video
Brings back memories, my first camp was 3 nights in pouring rain, with the same HB cheap gear but an Argos tent, it didn't leak once👍
You mock the stove - but - it looks terrific!
Going to try get in to wild camping and come across your page, great content showing it is possible to get out there on a budget. Keep it up 👍🏽
I think the idea of trying to find decent tents on budget places like the buy n sell sites is a great idea, to show just what you could get for cheap. The kettle is an OEX aluminium one I believe.

camping is camping. these vids are useful to many. Thank you Sir :)
Personally I'd sleep in it if I had no other choice...I'd wrap up in a tarp/groundsheet if that was all I could afford 😂
Also I like the videos showing budget tents and accessories, I don't have loads of money for the top names so these videos showing us cheaper options that really work...or teaching what doesn't work or is a false economy, brilliant thank you how can it not be a good thing!!!
I agree ihavd had my share of cheap tents some have been cool. My last one I seam sealed and it held out in light rain fir two day camp
I have that tent. It is a youth tent. It was $30us...it is the silver and blue fabric which is thicker and blocks light.
I live in the Appalachians and take it out for three nights. It is fine. I sleep diagonal....6' 4"

I got to like it. It's probably seen a dozen nights over two years. No tears, no breaks.
My pocket stove was $8. My cook kit was $10. A butane can was $5. I use a $3 used yoga pad and a used mummy bag $3 i laundered.
$60ish total.

Thanks Dan for sharing this budget video great stuff for camping
That smile..... That's what's its all about
I'd love to know the best next step up kit.
Good video Dan keep doing what your doing we all enjoy watching
Fishing beds and west lake sleeping bags , reindeer skins .. also got a two man wild camp tent so can push
The boat out a bit .. but I’m getting on !!
Liking the new profile logo Dan. 👍
Well done for trying it out .Some people will find that info very handy. ATB
U COULD BRING A TARP AS WELL.... . PUT IT UP ABOVE THE TENT . (IF TREES AROUND ). AND KEEP U DRY IF IT RAINS.
Seeing you in that Tent , was so Funny ! , lmao . 😂🤣😊
You could show people how to fly a tarp over a cheap tent to stay dry. It never hurts to fly a tarp to have an extra place to sit when it rains too. I know you weren’t expecting rain but a lesson works even when it’s dry. Have fun stay safe.
Hey Dan how's it goin? Well another great video. I may be wrong but wasn't it bushman mick that gave you that kettle
Dwayne
The tent will leak but with a cheap tarp over it it'll be ok
Enjoying the cheap videos
crack on with what your doing dan its good to show all the different stuff whats out there. as ya said with everything other than that tent is good enough for most people to use to get by. exp if its first time campers why spend a lot of money if its not something your gonna love doing in the end.
No matter what video you do there will always be the haters mate lol ignore them keep up the great videos
Hi Dan , I could not see myself in a tent like that ! , When I started out , I had my Parents old 1940's Canvas single skinned Tent , and it was great for 3 seasons ,but never in the winter , that was when I discovered Vango Tents .👍
