I remember first time i saw this, i was just blown away by Randy going "You don't need to feel bad, you tried". I mean, he's going into a group home, and he knows that word probably spread about him snitching, so he's gonna get beat up by everyone. Repeatedly. Boddie in a sense commited suicide. The scene gave me the impression he knew he was fighting a neverending and losing battle, and he wanted to go out in a blaze of glory.
I don't agree about the neverending battle and the reference to suicide. Bodie Brodus was just HARD. He wasn't running from NOBODY. No, it was O-Dog. Earlier in the episode, Marlo tells Chris to put Michael on the job to kill Bodie. But Chris tells him that Michael knew body because he was slinging for him so Michael's first kill should be somebody he doesn't know.
Randy becomes Prop Joe or Stringer Bell. **Just notice how every scene he's in he's gettin money or hustling. From buying candy to whole sale off the internet, to being the lookout, and even turning the hand out from marlo into a hand up in the candy business. Thats some stringer bell/ prop joe type shit with bodie's attitude. Trust me what ever Randy is it envolves BREAD believe that!!! 100
I think that Randy life would most parallel his father Cheese’s. Perhaps Cheese was decent as child? He was also a rat as he gave up Prop Joe. Randy would probably father kid and never be part of his life. This is a cyclical theme of the show.
If I was Carver I'd be visiting Randy everyday. Make sure he see's a friendly face, let him know he's not alone. That way he doesn't become cold like he is later on. UPDATE 2021 - My girlfriend is watching the show for the first time. Gotta point out that the final downfall of Randy is Carver's fault. When Carver let Herc talk to Randy, that's when the spiral really happens. Herc pulls in Little Kevin, damn near tells Kevin it was Randy, Kevin then relates that news to Marlo and there you go.
He didn't have time for that. And there will most certainly be more Randys, and Dukies and Michaels and Namonds. You can't save them all. You may not even be able to save yourself. That's a big part of what The Wire is about: the futility of dreams in the face of reality (remember Stringer's dream for him and Avon [B&B Enterprises]?). You do the best you can, you try to rise above your fate (what the Greeks wrote tragedies about), but life's going to hand you mostly Ls. You have to know that.
He didn't have the same resources as Colvin. Also, I believe Colvin had his own kid who was grown and out of the house. He and the wife were headed for retirement anyway. Carver's setup is not the same as Colvin's.
Watching this series as a grown man now, it was probably one of the only times i felt sorry for a police officer. Carver really tried to help Randy and even he knew Randy was done for. One of the reason why I love this show! Expresses real emotions
Bodie was killed just like a pawn on a chess board. He wasn’t killed like a regular pawn, he was killed by a “knight” in an L-shaped movement. Michael came down the steps, and walked 3 squares left to kill him. Bodie was a strong pawn, but he was cornered and his soldiers ran. RIP one of the best pawns in the game.
Here has it stands Randy is the new prop joe,Dookie is bubbles,Namond goes into law,Michael is Omar,it would be fantastic to would see what happened to them.
I love all the seasons of The wire every season just kept getting better and better it's time for them to bring the wire back for season 6 enough time has passed come on Peter Simon
As a teacher who taught in alternative schools, I can relate to Carver's reaction in the car at the end. Nothing like feeling you tried everything to save a kid and feeling like you failed when none of it was your responsibility to fix in the first place. You keep going just thinking next time you wont fail....
I feel like Randy is the new Marlo more than anything since they're calling him a snitch and he will do anything to protect his name when he gets older.
Randy was trying to ease Carter's mind, which was really a decent thing to do. They both knew Randy was fucked and Carter is going to live with that. Little man just wanted to sell candy but the streets wouldn't let him.
Season 4 is one of the saddest seasons in tv history . Almost cried multiple times. Kinda wish we got an adult version of what happened to the kids yrs later . Namond,Randy,Michael,Dukie. I know they’ll probably end up like all the other caricatures from the show because almost all the outcomes were shown . But Seems like they could’ve atleast got 1 season of them as adults considering how popular and acclaimed the show was.
He popped up in an episode where Bunk needed help, but he refused to help him and he became a hard ass. Even pushed a lil kid on the stairs in the group home. Look up the video "Bunk visits Randy"
If the previous characters are anything to go by he either became a gangster like his father (Cheese) or that 'rat' rumour followed him around until someone popped him for it. Such a shame, like the rest of the kids he showed so much potential only to be chewed up by the system.
Bodie always gave me the impression that he ALWAYS had something to prove despite not having much in life. Randy is now forced to prove he's not a snitch; we see Randy "learned his lesson" to keep his mouth shut when Bunk visits him in the group home. Even his attitude is different towards the end
They would have come after him again. And again and again until he was dead. The next time it might have been 5 dudes hopping out of an SUV and dragging him into a vacant where no one would ever know what happened to him. Nah he went out on his terms. Fighting. He knew he was a deadman. Look at the way he shakes off Poot. This is his last stand and he knows it. He's dead either way and he'd rather someone knew and his grandma could give him a funeral.
Michael = Omar & Dukie = Bubbles are the clearest metaphors but the others are open for interpretation. We see so many adult characters in the show that it’s fair to draw similarities to a lot of them. Randy is so tragic as he had the clearest potential to get out and be something good (intelligent, kind, humane etc) but an unlucky set of circumstances led him to being tied in to the game forever. Whereas Namond was basically the opposite. He was a bit of a delinquent and initially didn’t seem to care about anything but himself and was a spoilt brat but a lucky set of circumstances saw him get lifted out of it. Randy probably deserved the lucky break more, especially as Namond only met Colvin through being a little shit and getting sent to the other classroom. Randy’s stuck in the game and we can all guess whether he becomes Stringer/Prop Joe or Wallace/Bodie. In any case, none of them have a happy end. Namond gets lifted out of it but we know that there are plenty of characters outside the game that aren’t exactly good guys. So he could become a Colvin or he could go the other way and become Clay Davis. Seems more likely that he’ll be a Clay as he’s always had things handed to him with no work by Delonda and then by Colvin (despite it being a great thing that Colvin did). Randy makes me the saddest though because every character you draw comparisons to ends up getting killed even though they could have achieved anything they wanted
Namond reminds me more of Wallace since they both were too soft for be running the streets. Only difference is Namond was saved, Wallace died and but he could've lived if he stayed with his Grandma
The way you see Namond doing debate and public speaking makes me think he's destined to be Clay Davis. He's never going to face consequences until it's something he can't get out of (state/fed charges).
Of all the people who wronged Randy in his life, none is worse than Cheese. He abandoned his son, and out Randy in these circumstances. He got his just deserts in the end though.
There's another scene in the group home where Randy is wearing clothes similar to what Bodie wears alot throughout The Wire, a Wifebeater shirt with jeans and timberland boots
think of it from a metaphorical point of view. The kids represented the game rebuilding itself from politics to the street. Michael becomes a stickup artist, Namond focuses on school (more than likely becomes a politician) duquans a druggie, kenard becomes a hitman (Chris, Weebay, etc), and Randy realizes that theres no way out and adapts to the environment (like bodie) . The show depicts the game as being unavoidable so you either make things better (Mike and Namond) or adapt Randy and Duquan.
Remember when Mike said his first kill shouldn't be someone he knew ? That is why because it would have made him hesitant like Bodie with Wallace. Bodie defended "the Pit", defended and his corner more than a couple of times, with bats and guns. He even spoke out in meetings with Avon about protecting their territory and reputation even at the cost of their lives. He followed orders and played his position even when he didn't want to , that is what a soldier does.
the entire show made you think, made you sad made you wanna do something to change the unchangable world. Nowadays, they don't make show like this anymore
Was this confirmed? I know they had the same last name but they never brought it up in the show. Plus cheese was like 6 “3” and Randy was the shortest in his age group.
A really funny idea crossed my mind. I was re-watching the wire, and after I finish the 5th season, it got to me. In the very final scenes, we can see that Sydnor goes down McNulty's path, Dukie goes down Bubs path and Michael becomes a new stick-up boy, just like Omar. Pretty much everyone takes on a role that we already know from the series (except for the Bunk; the Bunk stay the Bunk). So, I was thinking, does this mean that Omar and Bubbles used to be tight? :p
@@kamiioo3289 that's probably true actually - he's too cold-blooded, which somewhat suggests he hasn't been nurtured as a child. The same with Snoop and Chris - and they could have gravitated towards each other as a result
Marlo and randy have a lot im common if you watch the show the writers was throwing shout out comparisons to marlo and randy all day long that scene with lil kevin after gettin approached by herc was just no hip saying with little/big kevin they flip it thing nah they implying really hard that marlo and randy got alot in common shit marlo told on omar about the robbery that chris did shit he created that plan on his own to tell him that omar gone stick up his store and shit
Namond is not D'angelo, look at the scene where bunk confronts omar, and tells him he always wanted to be the bad kid hanging round gangsters until he knew it wasnt for him, and the kids at the party sayed "what you doing here" to bunk when he was young.. Namond is Bunk
Marlo is out of the game, and slim charles has the connect as seen in the last episode and avon only has a couple of years left. Slim charles is dead loyal to Avon and as shown throughout the series never aspired for "the crown", he is a placeholder for avon. When Avon gets out everything is lined up for him
Randy definitely becomes the new Marlo. Marlo has no family that we know of. Marlo is very cold hearted which leads me to believe something similar to what Randy goes through Marlo went through. Marlo smart and very calculated and trust no one. Randy becomes the new Marlo. Marlo has no pass and Randy pass will soon be nonexistent.
They was a reference that Marlo had killed a family member with a baseball bat as a juvenile and that his action was concerning attempted child abuse towards him.child abuse
not sure why they didn't convey that more with a closer shot in this scene. i think that's kind of important that bodie, a dude who we came to like in the series, was just a lesson for some stanfield kid. bodie is essentially (albeit more admirable) that unnamed person we see used as michael's first kill in this scene.
This isn't MIchaels kill... this is the other young boy, the one with the crutches in the final episodes that was going to take the gun charge for snoop and Chris Partlow. They were going to unleash michael on this one, but then Chris says to Marlo something on the lines of " it's best not to let his first be someone he knows"
I remember first time i saw this, i was just blown away by Randy going "You don't need to feel bad, you tried". No, it was O-Dog. Earlier in the episode, Marlo tells Chris to put Michael on the job to kill Bodie. But Chris tells him that Michael knew body because he was slinging for him so Michael's first kill should be somebody he doesn't know.
It was O Dog. I don't know how people don't see that.
Why was Carver around? He knows about everyone thinking Randy’s a snitch so why show up like that 🤦🏽♂️
when yo dad tell you to be ready when he pull up but you not ready when he get there 3:52
Now that was funny. Made my day.

True. I wish they woulda just clapped him instead of giving him that fate.

All these scenes damn near had my grown ass in tears
Randy becomes Prop Joe or Stringer Bell.
**Just notice how every scene he's in he's gettin money or hustling. From buying candy to whole sale off the internet, to being the lookout, and even turning the hand out from marlo into a hand up in the candy business. Thats some stringer bell/ prop joe type shit with bodie's attitude. Trust me what ever Randy is it envolves BREAD believe that!!! 100
I'd like to think he turns to Prop Joe considering Cheese is his dad.
yea he was a moneyboy fr
@@Comrade.Question prop joe was randy's uncle too imagine if randy was raised by joe randy would've been running east Baltimore
You have to know that.
cant be that close wit cops it would put him in danger
+Yo Chill Carver visiting would have made shit alot worse for Randy I guess
coulda took him in like namond nd turnt his life round
He didn't have the same resources as Colvin. Also, I believe Colvin had his own kid who was grown and out of the house. He and the wife were headed for retirement anyway. Carver's setup is not the same as Colvin's.
Randy was just a genuine person always.
The look he gave Poot. It was a goodbye and a get outta here
Spider ain’t dumb, he disappeared quick.
They were waiting on Randy at the dow.
Spider is the new Bodie we see this at the end as Spider is walking Bodie's block
Fun fact: Randy is Cheese's son and nephew of prop Joe.
Is that true?

Watching this series as a grown man now, it was probably one of the only times i felt sorry for a police officer. Carver really tried to help Randy and even he knew Randy was done for. One of the reason why I love this show! Expresses real emotions
Bodie was killed just like a pawn on a chess board. He wasn’t killed like a regular pawn, he was killed by a “knight” in an L-shaped movement. Michael came down the steps, and walked 3 squares left to kill him. Bodie was a strong pawn, but he was cornered and his soldiers ran.
RIP one of the best pawns in the game.
That wasn’t mike that was o dog
Carver flipping out in the car was the only time I cried while watching this show
Here has it stands Randy is the new prop joe,Dookie is bubbles,Namond goes into law,Michael is Omar,it would be fantastic to would see what happened to them.
The same thing that happened to their predecessors. All in the game
he isn't anything like prop joe lol, they just related
@Chris Desh maybe slim charles lol
I love all the seasons of The wire every season just kept getting better and better it's time for them to bring the wire back for season 6 enough time has passed come on Peter Simon
As a teacher who taught in alternative schools, I can relate to Carver's reaction in the car at the end. Nothing like feeling you tried everything to save a kid and feeling like you failed when none of it was your responsibility to fix in the first place. You keep going just thinking next time you wont fail....
I feel like Randy is the new Marlo more than anything since they're calling him a snitch and he will do anything to protect his name when he gets older.
Yep, that scene in Jail when Marlo trips over someone using his name in the streets 💯
Yup because marlo was a snitch. Dumbass comment marlo wasn’t a snitch
nah marlo wasn’t a snitch.
@@klipzgod1503 marlo snitched to get out of jail lol

Randy was trying to ease Carter's mind, which was really a decent thing to do. They both knew Randy was fucked and Carter is going to live with that. Little man just wanted to sell candy but the streets wouldn't let him.
Carver definitely took Colven's speech to heart after this.
Went out exactly like Scarface. Guns blazing and shot from someone sneaking up behind him.
After seeing these, I noticed there's no "Dukie becomes the new Bubs", which, unfortunately, he did.
The homie bodie still went out how he put in the work. Hard!
Everytime i see how Randy and Dukie went out Just Tears my heart up
"Yo Bodie is you crazy?"
Saddest thing in the show. What happened to Randy
He popped up in an episode where Bunk needed help, but he refused to help him and he became a hard ass. Even pushed a lil kid on the stairs in the group home. Look up the video "Bunk visits Randy"
next to what happened to dukie. smh
Art imitates life. A few years prior to this season, firebombing witness' homes was a regular occurrence in baltimore. Google dawson murder case.
Brad2Penske naah it got sadder. Randy did it alot 2 himself too
If the previous characters are anything to go by he either became a gangster like his father (Cheese) or that 'rat' rumour followed him around until someone popped him for it. Such a shame, like the rest of the kids he showed so much potential only to be chewed up by the system.
bodie dying is one of the saddest wire scenes
Randy was cheese's son and he becomes the new prop joe/stringer bell
he'll never be any of them,he's the next marlo in my opinion
Bodie always gave me the impression that he ALWAYS had something to prove despite not having much in life. Randy is now forced to prove he's not a snitch; we see Randy "learned his lesson" to keep his mouth shut when Bunk visits him in the group home.
Even his attitude is different towards the end
He either had to toughen up or let people continue to push him around
Bodie made the ultimate dumb mistake.. Obviously never heard the saying "live to fight another day"..
Twinzzzzz 💯💯💯💯💯💯 Bodie never listened
he was tired of the BS he was ready for his exit.
I thought i was the only one who throws down with the steering wheel yo! The WIRE best cop show ever u feel me.
I need to have the same patience as that air bag in Carver patrol car 🤣
Only difference is Namond was saved, Wallace died and but he could've lived if he stayed with his Grandma
randy becomes Marlo
The way you see Namond doing debate and public speaking makes me think he's destined to be Clay Davis. He's never going to face consequences until it's something he can't get out of (state/fed charges).
Of all the people who wronged Randy in his life, none is worse than Cheese. He abandoned his son, and out Randy in these circumstances. He got his just deserts in the end though.
There's another scene in the group home where Randy is wearing clothes similar to what Bodie wears alot throughout The Wire, a Wifebeater shirt with jeans and timberland boots
This is the only scene where Carver seems empathic and human! I have a feeling he is from west baltimore
think of it from a metaphorical point of view.
He still didnt learn from his cameo in Soprano's season 1 "STOP HOLDING YOUR GUN SIDEWAYS AND SHIT" It failed him then and it failed him now.
lol
Well that's why he fled to Baltimore. So Junior wouldn't clip him
Gregory you do realize that wasn't even bodies character right ? Bodies guy was in the truck lol good observation tho
Gregory bodie didn't have the makings of a varsity athlete
Dick Superior 😭😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😂
Just like Bodie, Randy accepted his horrible fate
Remember when Mike said his first kill shouldn't be someone he knew ?
That is why because it would have made him hesitant like Bodie with Wallace.
Bodie defended "the Pit", defended and his corner more than a couple of times, with bats and guns. He even spoke out in meetings with Avon about protecting their territory and reputation even at the cost of their lives. He followed orders and played his position even when he didn't want to , that is what a soldier does.
Randy is not the new bodies it belongs to spider.
the entire show made you think, made you sad made you wanna do something to change the unchangable world. Nowadays, they don't make show like this anymore
Randy is the new Bodie
Micheal is the new Omar
Dukie the new Bubbles
Kennard = New Chris
When they revisit Randy in Season 5 he is a lot like Bodie. He is hardened and is somewhat the bully. I agree he did become the next Bodie.
Exactly, people think he has to be exactly like Bodie rather than him being a Bodie type

@@mikeyanno457 he grew tall in season 5
Poot was the smart one , he knew not to fight a losing battle .
interesting I thought the same. Also I don't think they even crossed paths in the show. You might be right.
I don't see how Randy becomes the new Bodie
I think the same thing that happened to Randy happened to Marlo when he was younger idk i could be crazy
money jones.....why would you say that? We know absolutely nothing about Marlo other than what we saw.
I agree. Nobody knows the history of Marlo, meaning he could have been raised in the system.
They both have no known relatives
Randy is going to be the next prop Joe like his great-uncle 💯
Poot stayed with the homie until the end
Namond is definitely D'Angelo.... they are both "born into the game" and choose that it is not the life they want to live.
Namond is not D'angelo, look at the scene where bunk confronts omar, and tells him he always wanted to be the bad kid hanging round gangsters until he knew it wasnt for him, and the kids at the party sayed "what you doing here" to bunk when he was young..
Namond is Bunk

Canadian Bacon How?
Matt Jones Randy still has a good heart somewhere inside, as did Bodie (exposed when Little Kevin got found)
Matt Jones marlo too me just seemed like a natural sociopath, no matter where he grew up i feel he would of been cold hearted
Matt Jones i agree
They was a reference that Marlo had killed a family member with a baseball bat as a juvenile and that his action was concerning attempted child abuse towards him.child abuse

O dog 's FIRST KILL
not sure why they didn't convey that more with a closer shot in this scene. i think that's kind of important that bodie, a dude who we came to like in the series, was just a lesson for some stanfield kid. bodie is essentially (albeit more admirable) that unnamed person we see used as michael's first kill in this scene.
Bodie didn't deserve to die that's for sure, and yes you are right. This would have been way more profound , but also it made sense...
randy was originally going to become the next prop joe,but ended up becoming bodie instead tragic
