This Scene Remix depicts how Baltimore Police Department's Det. Michael Santangelo comes to be used by Maj. Rawls as an intraagency spy on Det. Jimmy McNulty.
🎥 DIRECTOR’S NOTES 🎬
🎬 All the Scenes used are from S01E06-7, and I made this Scene Remix around my love for the scene where Rawls mocks Santangelo about his "dunkers", then tried to piece together the story around how "Sanny" came to be used as a double agent, and a very "special" agent, against McNulty.
🎬 While the Scene Remix doesn't start focusing on Santangelo until the second half, I felt that the numerous characters shown throughout this Scene Remix is "Tarantino-esque," likewise with the title screen making me think of Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction. I also drew inspiration from Christopher Nolan's style of opening movies with a poignant establishing shot to begin the Scene Remix, almost making this Scene Remix appear like a thriller at first!
🎬 I tried my best to include all the footage I could for the scenes but there were some where the transitions were pushed to their limit but still could have used more time, like how I did the transition with Phelan telling Jimmy to sit and talk - had I left in any more footage you would have seen frames from other scenes or heard weird leftover noises that would ruin the presentation, so I did the best I could with the information I had.
🎬 I was thinking about adding more exposition to set up the takedown of Bird, but I also like how I just throw the scene in there because afterwards the viewer is "catching up on what happened" like Santangelo was by waking up to a phone call about it, so we get some fun point of view experience out of that.
🎬 On the administrative side, this was the first Scene Remix that I had to delete and reupload because the first attempt resulted in my video being copyright blocked worldwide, but my second attempt with much better reasoning obtained the same results as the last 12 Scene Remixes, meaning you're all able to see the video. In the future I'll utilize this method again if my videos still get blocked after I dispute the copyright.

I like to think that the title screen is very Keeptin Tarantino and the opening shot is very Keepstopher Nolan; I hope the latter doesn't startle or spook anyone, but it is almost Halloween soon isn't it?
Santangelo keeping his eye on the tombstone, thinking: "PEEPS? His family name is Peperelli!"
well look at the bright side, he wasn't that smart to begin with
We gotta redo it. Fuckin Jason, he's dyslexic.
He’s dyslexic…
@@HayastAnFedayiwhat’s that got to do with it?
@@captainhelkinI’ve spoken to Paulie, he wants it known that he takes full responsibility, but that he didn’t do nuffin.
Love how McNulty calls Santangelo an asshole when he asks him to cover for him, not knowing that Santangelo is literally doing everything he can to save McNulty's ass.
I FUCKING HATE MCNULTY!!
McNulty sucks. Insufferable character
@@aaronrider4051 What the fuck did he do?
@@seanylewl Almost everyone on that show thinks McNulty is an asshole. Probably the only one foolish enough to go along completely with McNulty's bullshit at some point is, ironically, Lester, who's all up tight because the force screwed over MCU. Think about all the different people who think McNulty is an asshole: Rawls; Landsman; Bunk; Daniels; more. All of these people are different, but they see how McNulty is motivated excessively by egotism and willing to exploit or put others at risk to get his way. Now, is he also motivated by a concept of justice? Yes, because the writers were good and they understand the complexity of human motivations. But he's also definitely just a huge prick who looks down on others excessively, cheats on his women, does things purely out of spite, and literally fakes a serial killer, which is absolutely deplorable! I see the good things he does from time to time, but he is just so abrasive and obnoxious I'm amazed more people don't dislike him strongly.
@@aaronrider4051Then this show is not for you
Santy has such a great arc. We intitially think he’s going to be a slimy rat but he ends up risking his career to protect Jimmy, who he doesn’t even seem to like much (at the beginning of season 1 anyway). Stands up for his principles and takes a career hit for it, but ends up doing something he likes much better. One of the few Wire characters to “win” and, of those, one of the few to deserve it.
Him and Cutty I think had the best ends. They each ended up in a place they didn't expect but made them feel better than they did.
9:10
I love that moment
Another excellent scene remix made by someone with a fundamental understanding of the show. Great work of showcasing a minor characters motivations and puppetry.
thanks I was almost in discomfort with how I couldn't portray the story here any tighter but I think this Scene Remix has other artistic merits like the "Tarantino-esque" feel to it.
We're all here for it
Agreed. I just want to be reminded how did it end up charging D’angelo
Gotta respect Santy for not giving up McNulty. Paid off in the end
Lester "hey shawtay-ed" him like a bag of hammers...
Listen that whole setup was smooth!!!!😂😂💯💯
Really digging these extended compilations focusing on different characters' story arcs.
You’re welcome
@k33p1tc00l thank you? I think we did this backwards

I'm watching these old clips and sadly missing the brilliant Lance Reddick and Michael K Williams, two actors who elevated every scene they were in.
They certainly did may they both rest in peace. When I watch this or Sopranos, my second favorite show, I often think about how it seems like half the people I’m watching on screen are dead IRL.
If you didn’t know, there’s a playlist linked in the Description with all the Scene Remixes I’ve made 😊
No doubt.
I wish they showed him in Season 3, pushing the wagon. He said he was way happier than what he was doing in season 1.
That was him when they pop Omar for the delivery lady right? Calls Jimmy a democrat lmao
@@fortyforfree he was talking to jimmy but I don’t remember the context, it was just one of those nice details the showmakers threw in to make the city seem more connected (good storytelling).
@@albdamned577 and in season 4 (unless this is what you were talking about) after McNulty has cheerfully withdrawn to walk a beat in the Western we see him and Santangelo sitting together at a roll call.
They say it's the bomb.
Can't even begin to tell you how much I appreciate what you're doing here by editing these story arcs together into a single comprehensive clip!
Well thank you, all I need is minimal support to keep going and that’s what you’ve provided
I love how Ronnie's totally DTF Jimmy randomly even though he's scared of the chopping block lmao
She was still in her thot phase...
Ronnie was always wit it. Whether it was because Jimmy wanted to know about a pager, because he was losing his job, or because they happened to be in a parking garage together😂
Another great scene remix told from the POV of a secondary character. Excellent, adds new depth to him.
Thanks I appreciate you watching, enjoying, and commenting on it. I played quite fast and loose with the story and it was cheeky to leave in the long talk with Phelan and McNulty but I wanted to keep showing that Rawls was trying to employ Santangelo to find out.
You would probably enjoy the Director's Notes in the Description and what I type during the live chat of the premiere that you should still be able to watch on replay, as I give even more behind the scenes commentary there.
He actually goes to the same gym I do, I'll have to show him this next time I see him
That would be awesome please do, and thanks for watching
did you show him???????????
This character/scene breakdown is immaculate
~The whole suspense and dialog for each scene is incredibly realistic/
This show exists almost perfectly in an alternative universe lol...
Thats why we love it through the looking glass yet its a direct reflection
I’m really glad you enjoyed this one, the narrative I tried to portray was the most disjointed of any scene remix but it had a Tarantino esque charm to it IMO.
There's so many interesting moving parts on this show that I honestly find myself thinking, "Oh snap! I forgot about this part of the story."
Thanks to you, it's easier to understand. That's what makes this show so insanely good.
Thank you very much for the kind words
I love Bunk’s “no you don’t” because you can tell just in how he says it how desperately he wants Jimmy to understand him.
When McNulty says 'chain of command' you can hear his Briton voice.
"I'ts not my job to FUCK another COP!" - officer Santangelo. ~i love the way that they showed that he was willing to cover for McNulty even to the point of being insubordinate to "the most ruthless fuck we ever had in this department"
"Who dropped a dime to that news paper reporter your Honor?...Where ya been? 35 cents these days before anybody will cough up a dial tone.... no its 50" - david, ed and staff are just. Damn it guys, the game is out there and its either....
Lmfao #dunkers
When it comes to dunkers you solve 6, 7 out of 10
I love that line
2:54 the chess game as he said "you guys gotta make your moves soon" is gem of a detail
It's shocking to think how many poor suckers got sent away unjustly because the police wanted to clear their caseload.
The Gypsy Woman song was what Omar was listening to in the car before rushing Monk's appartment

Rhonda has amazing legs.
Do you call women broads or dames, by chance?
I don't know about Santangelo, But you sure put down another dunker! Another great video!
I know the storyline wasn't as tightly presented but this one has a different artistic direction behind it compared to past Scene Remixes, and I'm really happy it survived the copyright dispute to get published. Thanks for watching!
Can't go outside and play until your homework done 😂😂😂 rip to Jay💐🕊️😂
I like these mini-documentaries you are doing about the ancillary characters. Everybody does a character video on McNulty or Omar or Avon or String or Marlo or Snoop, but this is the only channel where my dude Santy can get some love. He didn't get you many clearances, but he didn't rock the boat either. He was the like the anti-McNulty of the show.
A video on Slim Charles would be awesome. He's a criminally underrated character (no pun intended) who was low-key one of the smartest and most tactical guys in the game, and he had some of the best scenes in the show. "Who we hittin? THE Clay Davis? DOWNTOWN Clay Davis?? Murder ain't no thing String, but this is some assassination shit."
Funny part about Santangelo was the fact that Jimmy thought he was an a-hole, but he actually chose to do cold investigations on the case rather than betray same Jimmy
Respect.
Santangelo was a good kid
Yeah but Meadowlands last year do ya remember? Threw a hot dog vendor off the second mezzanine, too many fuckin’ onions or some shit.
@@k33p1tc00lYou're in denial here. McNulty was always a disturbed kid.
Lol Jimmy thinking Rawls’ sole motivation is just to fuck specifically with him. But considering his Maritime McNulty stunt I suppose this narcissistic projection is understandable 😂

A bit fucking excessive….
@@KD--sj8eo Omar did warn them that Bird won’t hesitate to use the gun… so Bird was treated as armed and dangerous. HEEEEY SHORRRTYYYYY then BAM smashes a bottle over his dome LOL
19:28... he's laughing because the guy's asleep.
Before David Simon created the show The Wire, he spent a year riding with the Baltimore Homicide Unit & learned that an innocent person left in the interview room will stress, fidget, & stay nervous while a guilty one will fall asleep 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That’s a nice tidbit but the guy you’re looking at was essentially beaten unconscious
You skipped the part he landed on foot patrol western district. He had a scene placing bubs friend johnny boy to hamsterdam telling him "I heard the wmd is the bomb".

Poor Mickey Massuco, too...
How Rawls was still around when Daniels took over? He had a promise to become State Police Comisssioner (or whatever the job is called, I can not recall), but was there any reason to keep him at the top in the city meanwhile?
He made a deal with Carcetti's Chief of Staff, if you're referring to the end of the show.
@@k33p1tc00l Fair enough. I thought it was only about making him state police chief when Carcetti becomes governor. Keeping Rawls besides Daniels seems to be a bad idea. They probably could make him head of a less important section while they wait being able to deliver on the state job promise. Thank you.
