Katy Perry visited the China National Orchestra in Beijing on 12th January 2014 where they performed two songs for Katy: 'Silk Road' (traditional Chinese music piece) and their interpretation of 'Roar' which was rearranged and performed especially for her.
Try not to sing to this.. You can't! This is an awesome rendition of Katy Perry's Roar.
***** Yet Roar was written, produced and recorded before Brave. LOL try again.
TheNightSimmer maybe you should google next time. brave was released in april 2013. roar was released in august 2013.
John Bonebrake he said written, produced, and recorded. sure it was released in august, but the other aspects to the song were done way before then.
***** If you're not up to date with this "crap" then why are you even trying to bring Katy down? There's enough ignorant hate on the Internet.
John Bonebrake Maybe you should read next time. Writing, production and recording does not = release.
All these political comments disgust me. It's just a freaking cover performance of her song. You guys are blowing it out of proportion. Sheesh.
Plus she didn't even write Roar itself. That's why she's crying in the news story on this, probably, not the flattery, but realizing shes just a pretty shell that creative people channel their music through.
It's beautiful. And I'm a western chauvinist
You know the song is HUGE when this happens. The chorus is absolutely amazing, WOW.
The beauty of this gave me goose bumps; it's like the instruments were singing out the lyrics. It's the merging of so very, very ancient instruments and an equally old musical tradition with a modern pop song...not to mention the melding of East and West...that makes this rendition just divine. What a reminder that music really can unite us all! No wonder Ms. Perry was moved to tears!
+No Name with those instruments u felt that ancient Chinese soul and it hit the spot =) .. it's beautiful really and the conductor's movements r genius!
This should be a soundtrack in the upcoming Kung Fu Panda 3 movie.
+Yahya Al-qurashi agreed
kung fu panda 4
Yahya Al-qurashi Good idea 😂😂😂😂💙
Yip!
Good idea!
I am from the USA and have great respect for the talent, intelligence, and great desire to work of the Chinese People. Thanks
+Robert Sutton ths
Thank you
Thank you
The music is not capitalist or communist, it is in a higher level...
I don´t understand how you people (not all of you) cannot simply enjoy what you hear without putting down Katy Perry who is the one who had the inspiration for this great song, whom she wrote together with other songwriters, And you ignored the fact that she was moved to tears while hearing this Beautiful piece of Music which she herself sings in the best pop manner. No, you had to put her down. That tells a lot about which kind of limited people you are.
i meant hhgttg69 and saphiresirene skies
Loved this rendition!!!
Yah! TRUE!!!they are really creative and the music is totally fit.
Music is really international!
Wow, this is incredible! The talent of these people for real!

So proud of my traditional orchestra music, and so proud of Katy ! You always welcome in China!
The oriental feel is awesome.
***** Hello :3
This version of Roar should be used for Kung fu Panda 3.
i remembered this brought tears to Katy's eyes. now after #wecrashed this is still the best version of the song, well besides the original song of course.
What is #wecrashed?
@@Urlocallordandsavior the apple tv show

Ohhhh okay. No wonder there were few people only. Tq for sharing!
How comes that orchestras make everything better?
because it's organic and every instrument touches on a different tone, emotion, chord of imagination.

у меня мурашки по коже, как же это прекрасно
I saw this last year and everytime I get back to it, after it ends, I always pick my jaw up from the floor. amazing
Everything sounds beautiful in orchestra form. I'm not Chinese. But I've been taking classes!

It's so good to see dedicated musicians, who love to play music
WGN Morning News Chicago brought me here. Magnificent! If the China National Orchestra did an album of hits, I'd be first in line to buy it!

Katy brought me here! THIS IS AWESOME! I LOVE IT! ♥♥♥♥
it's a great version! I´d like to hear a better quality recording of this beautiful performance
They must have been stunned to play such an amazingly difficult, well thought out, well structured song! The contrapuntal melodies! The augmented and major minor diminished 5th Neapolitan French-6th textures! All for the most talented musical genius of our time Katy Perry! What an Honor!!!!
我听的时候真的哭了,心里有种说不出了的堵,特别是最后看到观众席上面的寥寥几天我悲伤欲绝!我的国人加油!因为有你们而感到自豪!你们都是大师!
it always makes me smile :)

Great music. Thank & many thanks from Thailand.
The instruments and orchestra were amazing
This is cool, Id rather listen to this any day than the original
I feel this so much more than the original, I 100% agree.
Damn the politicians! Music is the real ambassador of the world! Way to go China National Orchestra! :)
This is gorgeous!
Words cannot describe to amazingness of music and the way the preformed this song!
So few in the audience and that guy snapping pictures got in the way but by the end I could Katy with a smile on her face. She must have felt very well it could be presented in this way using traditional Chinese instruments. and I like it very well myself🤗
That is so Awesome how they do this I'm a 5th Grader and today we have Music and I'm going to share it with my whole class who knows maybe she would show it to the entire 5th grade but what they did is out Standing!!!!!!
Even though I dislike the song, this version is way more than tolerable! So beautiful!
this is so so so beautiful
Hearing the words of the song and feeling the beat sends chills down my spine like water falling down like a waterfall
@Wayne Li is correct.
As an audio engineer major I was drilled to learn to consider virtually EVERY single variable when it comes to recording including how efficiently room acoustics transfer and reflect sound waves, phase cancellation, isolation etc.
The percussion/drums are put in the very back of the orchestral section because they are powerful instruments and their long and "heavy" amplitudes may very well trample over the shorter sound waves from the other instruments possibly masking them.
This would create arrival differences to the ears of the audience where the front instruments are heard first and the back is heard later by fractions of a second.
This was truly incredible, you can almost hear the words from the instruments.
That was terrific. I loved the traditional instruments. Unfortunately, they played to an almost empty house.
It might've been a private event.
La musica no tiene fronteras, idioma, ni limites, que hermoso.
That intro gave me goosebumps !!
NICE!!! Nothing lost in translation! A New view, a different cultural interpretation, WONDERFUL!
my goodness i dont know how many times have i watched this video its awesome
That just seriously gave me chills!
When your song is so iconic that it ends up being played by a traditional Chinese orchestra...
I think a beautifull Chinese songstress should sing a rendition of it to this in Chinese in a classical manner btw
The are killing this.!!!!
so nice .I don't know what to say God bless you all love it
wooow...cant stop crying....mmmm art is beautiful
Why can't I orchestrate like this?
THIS IS SO FLUFFING AMAZING!
This is amazing...very talented group of people
Damn... that's good.
It always makes me feel smile; it's so beautiful, lenient and unique performance.
i admit i was confused at first, expecting violins with an orchestra. i got a way better surprise! this is beautiful!
my faith in humanity is restored after seeing this. So much bad crap that you see on the news, but when i see things like this i know there is so much more good in the world.
omg! that was amazing! there should have been more people in the audience to see them!
WOW!!! That was AWESOME!!!!

You KNOW it's huge when a legit Communist country's orchestra does a cover of your song.

If you close your eyes to listen to Chinese music, you see pictures in your mind. You can visualise sceneries of the seasons with birds soaring in the blue sky, butterflies fluttering above flowers, crystal clear waterfalls and streams, etc.
