    I have Chinese friends here in Canada who smile when they see me cry whenever I hear traditional Chinese Instrumental Music. It's due to the Pentatonic Scale. And there are some who say the The Chinese are not Romantic??? Sheer Nonsense.

      Agree. The Chinese are very romantic. What makes the Chinese romantic is they don’t explicitly say it out but use the metaphor and actions. I don’t know how to explain it.

    I discovered Chinese music( or did it discover me?) several weeks back on TH-cam and it's been one of. The most rewarding moments in my life. I'm spellbound by the instruments , the mesmerising sounds the beautiful people whose talent seeming knows no limit. I am an Ulsterman but at this moment I wish I was Chinese. I'm so proud of them. Truly and utterly remarkable music.

    The sound of China. Enchanting and unique . A lilting musical journey through the land of the ancestors. Who but these people could strain an expression of sound from a piece of bamboo , and a single stringed instrument .

    I don’t know why but the sound of traditional Chinese orchestras are so much more heartening to me than western orchestras.
    Of course western instruments and orchestras have honed their craft and sit on hundreds of years of history as well but there is just something about the Chinese music.

      Its a dizi

    • @Fear_the_Nog
      @Fear_the_Nog 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@criptedlive2578 Correct, it is called a dizi, but I just want to be slightly more linguistically nuanced, the word "di" is simply the chinese word for flute. "zi" is a diminutive meaning "little," and its usage is specific to only Standard Mandarin. In other Chinese dialects, such as Standard Cantonese, it is left out. The dizi is called daeg in Cantonese, and daegji (with the Cantonese counterpart of the "zi" diminutive, "ji," being present) is only used in formal written documentation.
      "Di" refers all flute-class woodwinds. The western orchestral flute, for example, is called Changdi: "Longflute(s)." The recorder class instruments are called Zhidi: "Verticle flute(s)"

Interesting to that over the years West and instruments have got more more powerful, sonorous, more and more resonance has been added - but these folk instruments have not gone down that route

      @focusjiao6992 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chinese flute is called "Dizi(笛子)" or “Zhudi(竹笛)". There are kinds of it. The major different between Chinese flute and Western flute is that there is "membrane" in the flute, and the membrane makes special tone.
      more info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_flutes

    • @PracticaProphetica
      @PracticaProphetica 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Chinese bamboo flute has an extra hole between the mouth-hole and first finger, which is covered with a thin bamboo membrane. It vibrates with stronger breath, and gives that edgy sound to the flute. It's a bit like the principle behind a kazoo, only much more lovely and sophisticated.
      They glue the membrane on with some special resin, but I've found that glue stick works pretty well in a pinch. You can always wet the edges of the membrane to stretch or loosen it later...you want just the right tightness/looseness so it doesn't vibrate too much or not enough. Takes a bit of fidgeting to get it right.
