I enjoyed visiting Mar Del Plata through your video! (thank you) I was born there but I moved to the US when I was a teen and grew up in Boston. Last time I was there was in 2004. I think I am going to go visit soon and stay for a while I miss those empanadas...

Gran video! Una de las ciudades más lindas de Argentina! Gracias por mostrarle al mundo nuestra querida Mar del Plata. Soy de la ciudad de Rosario, provincia de Santa Fe pero casi toda mi infancia y adolescencia pasé mis veranos en Mar del Plata junto a mi familia y cada vez que puedo vuelvo.
Mar del Plata es un emblema del turismo nacional, con un rico legado histórico social y cultural. "La Feliz" como también se la conoce, pasó de ser una ciudad en la que la clase adinerada de todo el país (en su mayoría proveniente de la ciudad y provincia de Buenos Aires) pasaba sus vacaciones a principios del siglo XX, a ser un ícono del turismo popular a mediados del mismo debido a importantes y significativas reformas en políticas turísticas y sociales impulsadas por el gobierno de ese entonces.
Es por ello que te podés encontrar desde majestuosas casonas y edificios que fueron habitadas por las familias de alcurnia, hasta importantes hoteles sindicales distribuidos por todos los barrios. Personalmente, creo que uno de los mayores méritos que ha tenido esta ciudad, es que ha sabido acoger a lo largo de sus años de historia, a todo tipo de turistas y hacer que los mismos disfruten de sus vacaciones y estadía, independientemente de su condición social o económica. Son pocos los sitios turísticos que pueden lograr esto.
Otro dato de color, el estilo arquitectónico y las construcciones que se pueden observar a lo largo de toda su costa hicieron que se la nombrara también como "la Biarritz argentina” por su similitud con la ciudad francesa.

Yes, I lived in Buenos Aires Argentina for nearly 10 years and I own a home in Mar Del Plata. I have not been able to return for over two years because of the coronavirus pandemic but I plan an extended visit in November of this year, I miss the Argentine lifestyle very much 😔.
What do you do with your home when you're not there?!?!?!

My friend left Rosario Argentina 70 years ago. I traveled with him to Buenos Aires in 2005, it was interesting and food was great. Unfortunately the way things are In Rosario my friend is afraid to visit there. He is in his 90’s .

We are thinking about Argentina for retirement. We love cool weather so BA hot summers don’t sound appealing. Mar Del Plata looks incredible. No real hot months ! Any downsides to Mar Del Plata ?

Now how about beaches! Is there any good swimming beaches, to go too in the summer months?. Does the water get warm enough to swim in?.
I don’t know too many beaches here in Argentina besides a Mar del Plata and a few others but I think Mar Del plata is one of the better places for enjoying the summer and going in the water even though the water never really gets warm but it’s hot enough outside to feel refreshed going in

Would you say Mar del Plata is more like San Diego, Los Angeles, Monterey or San Francisco?
It’s hard to compare, Mar Del Plata to any of those places.
A bit cooler in Winter. usda zone 9a. Like coastal Georgia or that Florida Alabama border. But more cloudy and doesn't get as hot as those places.
So any tourtist now plan coming in week or is still super cold for the beach

There are two rates for the US $ in Argentina: the red rate or the official government rate and the blue rate or the actual rate that the US$ is worth in Argentina pesos. A rule of thumb is that the blue rate is twice as much as the red rate. As of 20 March 2023, we received 380 Argentine pesos per US$. Visa pays the blue dollar rate. Mastercard doesn't. We just finished with my two-week holiday in Argentina: BA, Ushuaia, El Calafate, and back to BA. We were informed by our tour guide for the Recoleta Cemetary that Visa pays the blue dollar rate. We had to pay by card to enter the Recoleta Cemetary as they don't accept cash. I used my Visa card and discovered that I was only charged GBP 4.74 entrance fee to the Recoleta Cemetery. I then started to use my Visa card and discovered that I was getting an exchange rate of AR$340 to 1 US$. Which is not too different from the current blue rate of AR$380 to 1 US$. This was my third visit to Argentina. During my first visit to Argentina in 1984, the inflation rate was 900%. Argentina is still with us and is in no danger of collapsing.
