Off topic but what a great voice. Also, thanks for the actual content, summation of developments over the last few days. Ps. Would love to hear your take on Satya Nadella's post today (announcing Sam Altman, Greg Brockman and others are joining Microsoft.)
I think the announcement was absolutely necessary for MIcrosoft to salvage investor/customer confidence before markets opened on Monday, and to that effect they succeeded. The situation doesn't seem fully resolved yet though; maybe Sam still has a path back to OpenAI. But from Microsoft's POV, they're likely less concerned with what subsidiary Sam and co. report to, so long as it's under Microsoft's roof. It's a LLM, it just spits out the most likely pattern of words after a prompt, it's not going to escape and take over the world. I can see how it could have an effect on society in terms of it taking jobs away from people but the same was said when the mass production was introduced.
fair point. I think the argument might be that the potential for bad rivals the potential for good. AI could be an amplifying force for whatever good or bad someone is already doing. I'm personally all for progress and innovation with cautious, reasonable regulation.
