You know you're a FreeCAD master when you can effortlessly pick appropriate references and attachment modes when creating datum objects, instead of cycling through the options hoping to find a combination that produces what you're after. I definitely use the latter technique 95% of the time. Thanks for the great video, BTW.
Your videos are like gold. So insightful. Lots of videos get you up and running with the sketcher, and padding/pocketing. And then when you try to make real parts you hit these issues which arent often explained. Thank you Andrew!
Hey Michael! Thank you for all your comments! Your information is much appreciated 😀 I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. It's great to know I'm making content that helps 😀
Andrew, I enjoy your videos very much and as a beginner am learning well. Would it be possible to expand this video to include the creation of an o-ring channel that could be used to seal a box lid on closing. Many thanks
You do great tutorials. I just wish someone would do a comprehensive tutorial on datum manipulation on curved surfaces, such as interior/exterior faces of a cylinder, etc. As a complete novice to cadding, I am trying to find such information on the net, without much success.
Yes, something that I totally forgot to add. It's a little more complex, but similar to the datum plane, you have to use the origin as a reference and then manipulate it to the direction/orientation of where you want it. However, in real thunders mod you dont have to do this as the naming problem isnt an issue.
Great video! However, being a (rather novice) Fusion 360 user myself, I'm wondering why using a "datum line" would be better then what I'd do in Fusion: ex. creating a sketch on the face we want the mid-line of and then just drawing an edge from mid-point of one edge to mid-point of the opposite one. Then I can use this new edge as reference and only needed the tools I already knew (basically sketches). So, can you elaborate why using a datum line would be better than using an edge directly?
Hello. Is the image scaling function available under the image workbench? I'm new to CAD and as a start I downloaded FreeCad 19.1 and I couldn't find this function. Really enjoying your videos btw
Hey Melwin! Without looking I cant be 100% sure, but it should be. Here's a link to the image scaling page: wiki.freecadweb.org/Image_Scaling Hope this points you in the right direction 😀 thank you for watching my videos, I'm glad you're enjoying them 😁
@@AndrewCADThanks, I've read from the page before but the issue is that the icon is missing in workbench 😆 Don't know if it's 19.1 version specific problem
Morning Melwin! Just updated to the latest version and had a look, the scaling function is there 😅 Perhaps try contacting someone from Freecad on the forums and show them a screenshot?

Wow, excellently explained as usual, and exactly what I needed to get unstuck, Thanks!!
I love these short "tips" videos. I can learn small chunks of stuff at a time! Keep Them coming!!!
Useful and straight forward as always! Thanks!
Thank you - Much appreciated.
Thanks Andrew!
Very interesting and helpful. Thank you!
very good and many thanks!

Am I weird for thinking it's annoying that the third axis on the local coordinate system icon is longer than the first two?
Perfect. How did you get your Cursor over the red circle?
good video. but singular of vertices is vertex 🙂
When you choose Edges etc as reference for the datumline, it is also effectet bei the topologocal naming problem, isnt it?

What can be the reason that the tools don't work?
