I agree with your impressions. It was lots of good updates. However, I don't think they are as good if you want to pick up the pace. However, I choose a another shoe for that purpose (like the Rivera 3).
I have wider heels and I had holes in my heel cup of the Torin 7. I went up to wide and the heel feels fine now, though the toe box feels excessively wide now. I still like the shoe though. The midsole is comfy.
@@slavasss2189i found them to be absurdly mushy, like really squishy. I don't know if that is just because I am more used to lower shoes like the escalante, but they were certainly stiff (low flexibility in the toe especially compared to escalante), but i just sink into them, and its quite uncomfortable.
What do you think 4.5 vs 7? I squezed the via olympus midsole in store the other day. What a brick, i wonder what they are doing at Altra sometimes. Tell them to stop doing those soft ass outsoles like on the escalante racer, rivera and now on the FWD. How you gonna get new customers (thats the intention of the FWD i presume) with a midsole that scuffs after one run (for many)
I must admit that one down side of testing so many shoes, is that I rarely pass 400km in any pair. So I can't really answer that question honestly. Sorry!
Despise that shoe. Gave it a chance. Too high stack height. Zero ground feel. Garbage ego max feel. Horrible heel cup. Felt heavy as hell. 4.5 plush for life!!

Great first impressions … good improvements but does look a bulky boy! The 4.5 plush is still going (just) .. one of my favourites too. Thanks bud.
Thanks for review, considering Altra for my next road shoe, having some problems with my current Hoka match 5, zero drop seems to work better for me
Mach 5 is super narrow too!
Congratulations for the very informative videos.
Glad you like them!

And quite firm! more stack but feels firmer than torin 6s
Yep! I must admit, that I've not been running in them lately. I much prefer the Rivera 3 and Vanish Tempo at the moment.
@@TDMiller i not understand logic, why add more foam but make it firmer....

I didn’t like mine as much as the 6s the 6s felt more cushioned.

What is the longevity like for the ego max midsole material? Does it start to noticeably degrade after 300-400 miles?

Still have 3 fresh 4.5s. I squeezed the via olympus midsole in store the other day. What an absolute brick. Not touching it again 👊😆
