I'm 45 and been attending this event since highschool and can honestly say both bands showed out for the 50th thanks to Southern and GSU y'all never disappoint

These bands are the jewel of Louisiana. Look what happened at LSU they played both schools and filled the stadiums.
I was there! Amazing performance by both universities.

I love all HBCU bands but for me GSU was more musically balanced with nice tones. Both great bands.
I thoroughly enjoyed this battle. I had stopped going, but both GSU and SU gave a much better “battle” and each performed a variety of selections…something for everyone! Thanks to all the band members on each side and the young women dancers. Dolls and Orchises were amazing! Can’t believe it’s over, can’t wait until next season!!❤

I loved the camouflage uniforms GSU wore. They looked and sound good.Both HBCU bands are good. GSU has my heart though.GSU Mom for life!!❤❤

Souther has about 50-75 more band members than Grambling and still was not able to take a Run away win! Grambling held their own, gave a look, and played hella well! Bravo! 🐯🖤💛🖤💛

Ikyfl they moved stood out for sure but amazing it was not. Gambling is like a glorified version of aamu nothing more or less. Except the dancing divas give.

GSU’s sound has evolved, Southern’s sound is consistent, and has been for years. It’s almost to the point were only the trained ear can tell the difference between. “Often Imitated, but Never Duplicated”!!
This the Jukebox I expect every game.
I miss the patented sound of SU. Maybe it's just me but the arrangements lack the old DNA of SU. Don't get it twisted, I'm still an SU fan.
It’s not just you I prefer the old sound as well with the fiberglass tubas & baritones instead of euphos. It had such a unique sound..now they sound like every other band for the most part
No it's not the same sound. The arrangements are so very from from the Dr Greggs feel. They can also cut back on the size. 32tubas aren't needed

SU will most likely never be this size again. They decided to keep all the freshman they brought in this year, which is honestly good for the future of the program. They will bounce back next year. Everyone has their off years.

We need some answers on why the Dolls were allowed to get on stage and the Orchesis wasn't. GSU Orchesis still stood out.

I am a die-hard SU fan, but I am very impressed with GSU's performance. I want to know if GSU getting better or is it that SU falling from its rein as one of the best. I need SU to step it up because I always expect a flawless victory and they probably squeezed this battle out, to be honest, I am on the fence about it and that's not good in my book.
Tbh I feel gram has gotten better over time .. su had flawless victory last year but this year gram ain't fucked around

Growing up in the city southern would consistently mop GSU at bayou classic. Man GSU brought smoke this year. I’m always partial to SUs style and arrangements but GSU had so much balance

GSU was better, but not by much. It really came down to song selection. Orchesis was wayyyyyyyy more entertaining than the Dolls❤❤❤❤. WHY did they go on the stage????! 😂😂😂💀🪦🪦!
I was lost with the Dolls getting on stage as well. It's like they ran out of ideas. And said, Hey, let's get on stage and play musical chairs 😂.

I feel like Grambling has come a longggg way from just a few years ago. Southern gets the W but for 1 reason. They know who they are and what they do well, BLOW. Gram needs to key in on those songs with Funk and Soul elements heavy on groove, cause that's where they sound great, Chocolate Thunder sounds ON POINT again, ICU was great and they version of Sittin' on Top of the World, was better to me cause the groove was in it, Southern just blew it and left out what makes that song special. That Anytime, Anyplace, could be 1 of those songs, if they really got it tight, but good job to both bands, fan of both for life, even though I ain't in the boot no more.

The Dancing Dolls program are going to have to get somebody over them woth some substance it is 2023 and these dancelines are on a whole other level they are not just standing there throwing counts anymore they are giving you a show throughout the whole game,they were on there way back in 2018 but that coordinator stopped it,they need to stop putting these former Dolls who are stuck in there years on the team and get somebody who are not scared for them ladies to evolve because at this point it's giving high school, they need to revamp that squad and go get Gabby or Shirley to be a sponsor so those ladies can evolve!
SU’s band is going through some changes. More rap and less soulful music that the Dolls typically shine on when they dance. Their counts don’t really match the direction of the band, musically. Honestly, they just need to take the offseason and develop a lot of faster counts. A LOT of them. They’ll need it if SU is going to continue having majority of their book be rap.

The Dolls are fine! I don't think they need to change anything. Why look like erybody else? I appreciate the Dolls style! Different and unique to any other dance group.
P.s. I don't even like dancers! Dey ass could be on a horn! BUT, they are an element of hbcu band culture! So s/o to all them damsels shakin sumtin for the people...✊🏾

This was BORING but I give the slight edge to Grambling.
And when did SU start playing On My Mamma, the arrangement sounds almost identical to JSU’s version. Also, you would have thought they would have stop playing don’t stop your love and wouldn’t play B*** Let’s Do it after the Boombox.

Both bands were fire! I can tell both trained hard . I give Southern the edge. In my opinion SU sound was more crisp. Their delivery was was on time. With that being said, I miss the days of knowing the songs being played 😄. Earthwind and Fire, Michael Jackson's PYT, Commodores Brick House, SOS Band, Parliament Funkadelic, Maze, Lakeside... Something about that music was classic and the way HBCUs performed it was memorable. RIP Dr. Isaac Greggs

I am a huge SU fan that huge wall is undeniable, but Gram compared to last year well damn. Boyy they coming along 100. SU will always have that wall of Sound. They just got to fix them new trumpets, they need whole milk not semilac. Glad brother Todd back. I think both put out compared to last year where SU was just dominate.

No dog in this fight but as a sax player who went to NOCCA SU won this battle convincingly... GSU is low asf.. and they don't play with passion like they used to.. but what do ik I only performed at NOCCA.. and I didnt graduate from neither school..

Two of the best programs historically and y'all get on here mentioning JS-WHO..............."kids say the darnest things". Let's go SU!!! And GSU y'all did wonderful. 50plus years of excellence, the Bayou Classic and kids get here making commments of a school and program that has always wanted to be where these two schools are historically. JS-WHO, it's still not y'all time.

Can maybe anyone give me the song list for the whole battle? My ear isn't great at recognizing tunes and I'd like to teach my band some of these. They like traditional marching band tunes.
When the dolls got on stage, I thought they were going to do something disparate.
It's always the Jukebox for me! However, Grambling sounded great and their swag was on point. I enjoyed the battle and I'm the mother of a Juke. 🩵💛

Throughout the whole season all hbcu’s gave a different variety of music but y’all wanna complain about this one which is crazy because it’s more than just 20-30 year olds in the stand bookie!!!
