Both schools did well, not trying to be bias but being an S U graduate I have to give this one to southern!!! Even though my son is in Grambling band. The students were saying that their director isn’t aggressive enough. And I can see that.
Both started running outta gas halfway thru. Grambling wasn't as bad as people were saying on social media. I like when they came back and said they wasn't thru yet.

With all due respect, Grambling had the better arrangements; but as a person who played in a band and really listens to music Southern's SOUND, not volume, was AMAZING!!! Both bands are great.
GSU has less brass instruments than SU, but yet they sound clean and crisp. SU has more brass instruments than GSU, yet they over blow every song resulting in them sounding very distorted.

Brass instruments usually add a warmer and richer tone , silver plated instruments usually add a brighter and more focused tone , the brass instruments would be inferior depending what orchestra you ask

SU fans are like Cowboys fans, they holding on to old championships and being delusional when they loose! SU was loud as heck to the point you couldn’t understand what was playing UNTIL the chorus! Grambling may have a smaller band but they stood on business and jammed and I must say when SU started playing while they were playing didn’t stop nor scare Gram! They played until THEY were finished!! SU really let Gram come back to the stands and finish them!!!
I sooooooo agree. I use to love SU but blasting music does not equate to talent. I have a hard time recognizing their songs. Also, certain sections overpower others and drown out the purpose of the arrangement.

Growing up in New Orleans we used to go to the Battle of the Bands in middle & high school BUT THE BANDS TOOK IT THE FIELD! We'd hit the FQ afterwards and it would be nothing but a good time - just flirting with our peers from other Jr & Sr HS and I'm sure some probably messed with college students, but there was no fighting, shooting and other foolishness. GONE ARE THOSE DAYS!!! Both ate, but SU edged them out. This would have been boring as H E double hockey sticks for us. 😂

I watched the Jukebox against both those PWI style bugle corp bands in back to back years at the National BOTB in Houston. It wasn't even close. The Jukebox stood clear above em both. Im a graduate of the GSU and weve always had a cleaner, crisper sound than some of the other HBCU bands. I mean we are not called the World Famed for nothing. We have traveled the globe. We are globally recognized. Being loud doesn't make you good. Its like comparing a Samsung Ultra with the stylus to a lil apple phone😂😂😂😂😂 there is no comparison

You can tell who really listening to the music. SU arrangements are so much more complex compared to Gram. Gram is literally playing high school level music
It’s grambling tradition and style if the directors choose to hold on to that style only thing the band can do is bring the energy to the music but can’t say these “high school” arrangements didn’t have a mature sound.
What used to set SU apart from grambling has become their downfall to grambling. The music so complex it’s starting to become indistinguishable to the real song. Grambling slightly won this year

Im a graduate of the GSU and weve always had a cleaner, crisper sound than some of the other HBCU bands. I mean we are not called the World Famed for nothing. We have traveled the globe. We are globally recognized. Being loud doesn't make you good. Its like comparing a Samsung Ultra with the stylus to a lil apple phone😂😂😂😂😂 there is no comparison

You can tell who really listening to the music. SU arrangements are so much more complex compared to Gram. Gram is literally playing high school level music
That's what this battle boiled down to. Arrangements
It’s grambling tradition and style if the directors choose to hold on to that style only thing the band can do is bring the energy to the music but can’t say these “high school” arrangements didn’t have a mature sound.
I said the same 🤷🏽♂️ The complexity in GSU arrangements are no where near the same as SU. That’s what it all comes down to for me.
What used to set SU apart from grambling has become their downfall to grambling. The music so complex it’s starting to become indistinguishable to the real song. Grambling slightly won this year
Sometimes less is more. Southern's sound is incredible, however. Idk Grambling folks are upset about the L.
