Excellent suggestions..THANKS! Bear spray not allowed on commercial airlines...so need to purchase at final destination. Expect thick alders on steep slopes. Expect rain, rain, wind, and more rain...I pack a tarp to sit under while glassing in the rain and for keeping meat clean while butchering, tarp can also be used as wind-break if it is not raining. Backup compass a good idea in addition to GPS. Contractor bags to keep pack blood-free is a good idea. YES... using treking poles for hiking up and down steep slopes.
Do you use trekking poles? I use them but many don't. Sometimes I use just one and pack the other. Also, I found most transporters have boot driers so you can get by with one pair. An alternative is waterproof socks like Seal Skin.
