Great job on the gear video Trail Thank You for sharing your knowledge and information. When are you or the guys going to take Jillian Elk Hunting. God's Blessings on all your adventures this fall.
Hey Timothy, thanks for reaching out! Great question. You can shoot Trail an email at trail@gohunt.com He is currently in Alaska right now but once he gets back, he'll get back to you!
I've been a Leupold optics fan for more than 40 years, but you might want to check out their policy on electronics before buying their range finder. I found out the hard way after spending a bunch of money on one that only lasted a couple years only to be told they don't warranty electronics.
I don't need to see any more gear lists. Never the less, I'm waiting for someone to do a fall bear rifle pack dump for those of us who get out there in August.
Good review. At this point I have 2 sets of gaiters and I don’t need a third, but will give them a look should I ever need to replace a set. Always enjoy the gear reviews though.
Trail, what pack size do you wear and what's your waist size? I always have trouble finding packs to fit, and especially this one, I'm right on the cusp of small and medium. Thanks,
Draw length is 30" and I cut my arrows carbon to carbon at 29" and as I stated use the factory Gold Tip pierce inserts and collars. I have not had any failures. I have had to pull a few inserts and/or try a few different combos of the inserts and collars to get a good straight combination but never failure. Overall, they have been really solid for me. Typically out of a dozen I will get 8-9 really straight very consistent weighing arrows.
It's getting close to go time!!! Thanks for sharing your gear. Look forward to the food list. Look at Ranch Fairy on TH-cam for his newest information on heavier arrows. Good information coming out.
I have been using the Kifaru silnylon pull-outs but I have had them for almost 8 years I think. They work great, but there are many similar options that work well too..l ike the Mystery Ranch Zoid Bags, Stone Glacier Swing Out and Camp pockets. Z-packs also offer dymeena pockets that are light and work well. You can find those here in our Gear Shop: shop.gohunt.com/ --Trail Kreitzer
Primarily I just like trying new equipment and I liked the fit/finish of the AAE Mountain Series stabilizers. The end caps are quality, the added sound dampener pieces are a nice bonus and I like that they are micro diameter like the Microhex which should buck the wind well. The AAE are also available in a 8, 10, 12, and 15 inch lengths with three 1 oz weights. I may end up going back to Beestinger stabs, they are a great set of stabilizers but the primary reason for the AAE's is just to see if they are are quality as they feel. -Trail Kreitzer
For me, I prefer to have a rain pant and jacket or perhaps something like the Hilleberg Bivanorak. A couple different situations, spot and stalk mule deer, I am mostly riding out mid after noon rain storms and I can get away with something like the Bivanorak that will keep me entirely dry until those swells pass. Archery elk hunting I am often on the move and it's not uncommon to remain in the hunt even during a downpour if the bulls are still talking, for that situation..I need a pant and jacket. I prefer not to go to bed and then have to get up with wet clothing, so for me, I like having a pant and jacket or something like the bivanorak that covers my whole body while riding out a storm. -Trail Kreitzer
Trial what’s the weight of your tripod and head setup? I’m trying to decide on a total weight that I’m willing to pack in. This is my first year adding a spotter and it adds up quick. Im a backpack hunter in Idaho and usually pack in 4 or so miles to set up spike camp. So I’m trying to avoid any unnecessary weight if possible.
Hey Jason, please shoot our expert gear team an email at gear@gohunt.com and they will hook you up with everything you need to know about the Goal Zero Nomad! Thanks for watching and best of luck this season
Hey Lyndsay. The dyneema version of the Seek Outside tents are only offered directly through their site. Unfortunately the material is tough to come by and they cannot produce the quantity for us to carry it in the shop. Thanks for watching and best of luck this season!
Hey Ryan, both are great options!! Please shoot an email to our Optics Manager, Cody Nelson and he will hook you up with everything you need to know. You can reach him at cody@gohunt.com
A+ as always Trail, so I’ll nitpick a bit here. Do you think it a little shortsighted to showcase $6-8k worth of gear for a backcountry elk hunt and then attribute a recent failed harvest to a $250-700 rangefinder and shrug it off? I realize it’s all about prioritizing hard earned money for us regular guys with families, just not sure I’d assume risk on a critical component to my “weapon system.” Kinda made me cringe, but I’m horrible at range estimation - especially on incline. Certainly not a hater, just a concerned follower. Stay frosty boys…
Haha..love it! Ya that was all me and my mistake wholly, just a mental flop on my part. I sat on that bull all day, closed the distance to within 65 yrds and he worked into a window steep downhill from me. I've used that Leica Rangemaster for several years without issue, but for whatever reason that day I took the range, dialed 5 yards to my slider and executed the shot...and missed. You're correct when I have 6-8K in gear, a $400 rangefinder is a not a big deal given the fact that we put so much money and effort into these hunts....but, that shot...it hurt. It left a lasting impression and unequivocally it's a mistake I know I will not make again which is why I can justify not buying a new one. I'd like a new one, but I feel confident going forward that I will not make the mistake again. That shot hurt bad and those are the lessons that last the longest!
Trail likes Sitka, and so over the years, he's acquired a lot of pieces from them. But he does mix and match brands from time to time. The great thing, there's lots of great options when it comes to hunting clothing these days.
Great job.... but let's say you have a son and a daughter that are high drive for hunting what should be in there pack....? So I can show some them your response so dad doesn't have to pack the world on his back in no place I saw a spot for lip gloss or hair ties (but I'll go as far long they are laughing happy and having a good time. I'm a sucker for kids in the woods any where
It will somewhat depend on their age and the hunt, but I did a backpack hunt with my 15-year-old son last year and he carried all of his own gear except for items that we only needed one of. He carried his own food, insulation layers, sleeping bag, pad, and water. On a normal day hunt my kids will carry their own food, water, and extra clothes and some loose gear. Thanks for watching! -Trail Kreitzer
Great job on the gear video Trail Thank You for sharing your knowledge and information. When are you or the guys going to take Jillian Elk Hunting.
God's Blessings on all your adventures this fall.
Always enjoy these videos and all of the rest of videos from goHUNT. It would be nice if you all start carrying Badlands gear in the store.
Hell yeah! We will look into it. Thanks for watching
Glad you guys started carrying tooth of the arrow broadheads…those things are awesome. Thanks for the video Trail.
Hell yeah, thanks for watching!
Ditto on the pillow.
A good night's sleep is priceless in the field.
I have the same one (in fact, most my gear matches yours).
Heck yeah, a good sleep system is a must!
Thanks Trail. Always fun to learn from a gear yard sale!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome thanks for posting good luck on your hunts ..Happy hunting 🦌🦌🌮
Thanks for watching!
If you wanted to go for a 3-4 day hunt what are a few things you could cut out of your pack to save weight that aren't 110% necessary.

Great video I just have an idea of possibly putting the prices for each item next to the name on the video👍🏻
Noted! We have an article version of this Gear List going out tonight. Stay tuned!
Good review. At this point I have 2 sets of gaiters and I don’t need a third, but will give them a look should I ever need to replace a set. Always enjoy the gear reviews though.
I also have a Montana Big game combo tag too. Maybe are paths may cross
Thanks for watching and best of luck this season!
Great video, love the gear lists! What finger sling does Trail use? Did not see in video, but have noticed on other platforms. Thanks in advance!
This is the AAE Super Sling Finger Sling. You can find it here in our Gear Shop: shop.gohunt.com/products/aae-super-sling-finger-sling
Tried to switch to hamskea o sold it still use trophy taker smack down. I just love how simple it is
Both are great arrow rests!
Trail did you ever shoot HB Broadheads or any mechanical heads for Elk Bear or deer
Thank You
God's Blessings on your adventures

Great vid . What is your draw length and how long do you cut your platinum pierce arrows?? Any half-out failures ?

Trail, what zone in Idaho will you be hunting? I will be in the Beaverhead Zone
It's a long shot! You'll have to ask Trail that😂😂
Do you only take the one pair of boxers in?
Haha we think so. Ultralight backpack hunting right here😂😂
Maybe some camp shoes, crocs or something else quick slip.
That's a really nice setup, but how do you get that elk rack on your right side in your pack!?.
LoL 🤣

How do you pack the gear in the backpack?
Dude I thought I was the only person in the world that pronounced pillow as pellow.
Just picked up a SG M7 jacket. How critical is having rain proof pants too? I run some pants with a dwr finish.
I have the same tripod I think it is 2 lbs brotha!
Hey Dean. The tripod and head setup weigh approximately 3 lbs 10 oz. Thanks for watching.

Wish somebody would do one of these for the poor man
Why the 20-60 instead of the 25-50 for the spotter? Which is better?
Hey Cole, please shoot an email to our Optics Expert, Cody Nelson. He will hook you up with all the info. You can reach him at optics@gohunt.com
Is the Goal Zero Nomad able to charge the Onn battery pack??
Hey Jason, please shoot our expert gear team an email at gear@gohunt.com and they will hook you up with everything you need to know about the Goal Zero Nomad! Thanks for watching and best of luck this season
Great Video Great Job!
Glad you enjoyed it
Where can I find the DCF version of the Seek Outside Eolus?
Hey Lyndsay. The dyneema version of the Seek Outside tents are only offered directly through their site. Unfortunately the material is tough to come by and they cannot produce the quantity for us to carry it in the shop. Thanks for watching and best of luck this season!
Lol awesome gear list boys but I don’t have 15000$ to spend on the gear 😂 best of luck out there!
Understandable! Keep in mind, the gear Trail has took him a few years to accumulate. Good luck this season
How would you say the Leopold full draw 4 and vortex ranger 1800 compare? I am in the market and keep bouncing back and fourth
Hey Ryan, both are great options!! Please shoot an email to our Optics Manager, Cody Nelson and he will hook you up with everything you need to know. You can reach him at cody@gohunt.com

Western mountaineering bags are the best 👊🏻
They are definitely top notch!
@@GOHUNT I never thought I would spend $1.000 on a sleeping bag but now I have 2 . Worth every penny when your old and cold
Yes, I am using my dads western mountaineering bag he bought in 1978! He took care of it and it still works great.

Does the slick trick broadhead fly similar to a field tip?
