I have 6 years of seeds saved from my garden. Started saving them before the pandemic hit. It was just a hunch I had. I'm glad I did!

Another problem that nobody talks about? Do we all remember when the used car market tanked because the dealers could not get new cars because of a “chip” shortage? Used car lots were empty because the dealerships were buying up all the used cars just to stay open! And used car prices skyrocketed!!
So fast forward to today and the next time you drive past a used car lot and see how full the lot is. They are so full of cars they can’t get another car on the lot! So the used car shortage is over… but the prices have not come back down. They are still sky high. My point is, once prices go up, and the public pays those prices… they never come back down. Once all the prices of EVERYTHING goes up… they won’t come back down even when the shortages are over.

Oh and they want us to get rid of our old for the battery operated toys that will leave you stranded in between charging stations and still have to call for a tow and spend more money, the battery cost is no joke as well. Right before the pandemic shut down began, I went and stocked up. There was a young store worker who was making fun of me. Two weeks later, I was in the store picking up some milk, he saw me and came over and quietly apologized to me and told me that he wished he had followed my example. I told him apologized accepted but that he had to pay attention to taking care of himself and his family and not be a sheep.

Unless u buy local u probably have foreign products in your fridge/freezer/pantry. I have seen farm hatched raised and harvested in China labels on fish from Kroger and a "fresh" rabbit from a local Amish store! Not to mention many of the companies are owned by other countries and the product is shipped here and then processed here so they slap a usa label on it.
I travel 3 hrs round trip to buy best product for family.

Goggle the names of food pantries and free food giveaways in your area. You can go between different pantries to stock your cabinets. You don’t have to go hungry. Start buying vegetable seeds and grow what you can right now, or hold onto them to plant in early spring. What you need are seeds and sunlight. Check out some gardening videos online to see how to get started m. If you are not online at home or your phone, you can go to your local library and use their computers.

Nobody needs to be hungry in this country. If you can get online, Goggle food pantries or free food giveaways in your county. You are online here so try internet searches.

As someone who keeps chickens, in 2019 feed cost 13.00 for a 50lb bag of feed, now that same bag of feed costs 20.00. Ive cut back on my flock, swtching from larger dual purpose birds to smaller birds who require less feed. I am getting a few new replacement birds that wont lay as many eggs, but known to be good mothers and self sufficient foragers so that I wont have to keep buying chicks at the feed store. Not great for oven roasters, but efficient cheap chicken soup birds.
Danish leg horns are small and nice looking chickens, who lay big white eggs and eat little.
Plant maize. That is what my grandparents fed the chickens and geese.
I have an egg incubator- hatching chicks and selling in the Spring could be a good $ supplement. I let my flock of 23 chickens free range all over my property which helps reduce the need for chicken feed. I hope we can still get oyster shells- helps with egg quality. I may need to start using my chickens for meat 😮
When people start getting hungry, none of you will have chickens for very long. Have an alternate plan if it comes to that.

Was at costco today. It was packed and there was already shortages. I asked when the next shipment was due, they said all the shipments were cancelled and they had no idea when the next one would be.......
I was in Costco (Virginia) Sunday afternoon and it was unusually packed. Usually, Fridays and Saturdays are their busiest days. They were almost out of Kirkland to and paper towels and water. I also noticed many more varieties of dried fruit, which made me think it was their version of getting prepared for a lack of fruit and produce. Clearly, we're going into the winter months soon but in all of my years of shopping at Costco, I've never seen that volume of dried fruits.

I lived the longshoreman strike 50 years ago My Uncle was president of the union in Puerto Rico and three other uncles were in high places. My father worked at C land later but the government of Puerto Rico but my father was on strike too. I don’t remember how long that strike lasted my father made good money we lived in a high class neighborhood and had good clothes and good meals had beef every day had some day rides and we lived pretty good but simple life. Dad was able to buy a house sell it buy another one sell it till he landed up in the one they lied and remodeled it had several cars there in the years. I have this ID from the longshoreman and his pins and I treasure them. Hope this strike doesn’t last long but these guys got pretty tough guys.🙏

Most meats, egg, poultry we get are sourced in the US not overseas. Most produce is sourced here as well. Dry goods, are overseas, however coffee and cocoa can be sourced from South America and brought in by trucking industry.
