@@ahha623ummmm you’re a lie, it was 1863. The Netherlands was one of the last countries actually…so it’s very plausible Pete was a slave.

@@edc2730 the Dutch banned the Transatlantic slave trade in 1813 so if Pete was from africa there would have been no way the could have been purchased as it was illegal. also Pete was a Moor and considering he was told by tales that that he took kids to spain Pete was the slaver not the slave as he was far to well dressed well wearing clothing that of a noble. also by 1800 the church came to a agreement that slavery was bad and considering Santa there is a saint would have easily avoided enslaving Pete.

Swarthy Pete’s a Royal Page who tends to the needs of Sinterklass, a Bishop, in order to gain Knighthood.
What the narrator failed to mention or probably doesn’t know is Swarthy Pete is shown as immature, playful or a clown is because Pages are children. This is why you don’t see Swarthy Pete or those dressing up as him with any facial hair.

Wouldn't be the same whithout him? I wonder about that. How did the children before 1850 celebrate this tradition without black pete? I think they enjoyed it just the same....

No pete = no saint. They belong to each other like ham and cheese. But.. the colour is not that important in my opinion , though many Dutch people dont agree with me.

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Black Pete dates back to the 16th century. His function and even number has changed greatly over time.
There being multiple Black Petes comes from 1944 for example. Canadian soldiers heard of this tradition and many of them wanted to help the Dutch through the 'Hunger Winter' with the rations they had. With their army face camo it was much easier to put together than having multiple saints.
So the Canadians showed up as one saint Nicholas and a group of Black Petes handing out whatever they could spare.
One Black Pete had become several, and it remains that way until now.

    Who is black Pete?
As usual people don’t know ALL the history and seem to have the Afro-American view/ cultural lens. You can not project this on the cultural phenomena.
    th-cam.com/video/6MQ_XtsrRkQ/w-d-xo.html
When you project Afro-American history on this cultural phenomena you don’t understand it at all! Perhaps it’s the lack of integration, so the Dutch people should told migrants what the party is about and what not. Don’t let the party be ruined by racist motives! But that’s the main thing: most Dutch people don’t celebrate it like ‘zwarte piet’ are black people. It should had nothing to do with a racist experience! The Christmas tree stands in a lots of Christians homes, but it has nothing to do with the pagan Origen. So, even when in later ages racial elements might have integrated: most Dutch people don’t experience and celebrate ‘Sinterklaas’ as being portrayed in the video. Most people consider it to be pathetic even to relate it at all with racism, because people don’t celebrate it with that stupid idea in their minds. It seems that most people that don’t defend it just don’t understand it.

@@AdventuresnTyland Everyone has made mistakes. I like what their prime minister has done. He said he listened little Black kids tell him that the swarta pete do not make them feel happy about themselves. He is now willing to make some changes. That is all we are asking for. Make him a true Chimney Pete by taking away those stereotypical Black face features. We are just asking for respect.

    • @bla9ckcob5ra
      @bla9ckcob5ra หลายเดือนก่อน

Swarthy Pete’s a Noble Page. Pages are children who become Squires by their teens and Knights into adulthood. But one can be a page up til their late teens They tend to the needs of a Bishop, SAINT, or someone else a king puts in power. He’s based on a child which is the reason why he’s never seen or drawn with facial hair.
Sad thing about it is the people screaming racism probably know the Lord of the Rings or King Arthur lore like the back of their hands and STILL aren’t putting the pieces together.
As far the blackface go, what they’re doing predates anything you heard about the mistrials or the term blackface. When black people ruled these in these places when the parties and get togethera came around back then, the common folk used to dress up like this to mimic their kings and queens.
Yall can’t say black people were kings, queens and royalty in places outside of Africa then try and cancel the evidence that proves that.🤨
