Nice video going over all the different types of nail guns. For the thickness/sizing it's easier to remember 18ga = 18 nails/inch, 23ga = 23 nails/inch, etc. The smaller, the better for finishing trim work. One important thing for beginners - never put 16ga nails in an 18ga nail gun, or you will ruin your nail run. I destroyed an old Craftsman 18ga by accidentally putting 16ga nails in it and the master cylinder blew up and broke inside. It was so confusing for me as well, and I spent a lot of time researching which nail gun to buy for my needs. I eventually went with a pneumatic 18ga because I already had a compressor, and 18ga would be the best overall size. Otherwise I would've bought a battery powered one.
Great points! Yea you are right, it’s important to use 18g nails in a 18g gun and so on. So sorry to hear you had to learn that the hard way! Thanks for watching!
I'm a beginner DIY home repair gal, and this was so helpful! I bought the 18ga brad nailer from Ryobi to re-install trim and quarter round after I installed new lvp flooring. Thanks for the help. Here we go!

WOW! Girlfriend I have been researching all week regarding these nailers! This is the BEST video I've seen since I am a 'Beginner- Dummy'! Thanks for such a knowledgeable video!!!!!
Excellent video. Thanks. Was thinking of a pin nailer to fix 3mm oil-tempered hardboard to a brick wall with hard plaster. Decided to use spray-on contact adhesive with 3mm screws in plastic plugs to supplement the glue. Screw heads will be filled. Two layers of backing wallpaper then top patterned layer of wallpaper in daughter's old twisted quirky house
Excellent explanation . I am a 45 years old man . Start my carpenter course 4 months ago and I an loving it. Starting to buying my tools now and thanks for the tips.

Very helpful video for a beginner like me. Thank you for taking the time out to go through all the basic steps such as loading the nails and how the length is determined and the width of the nail. Keep up the great work
Just today I was asking which to get( wanted a Ryobi as they've worked well for me-still..BUT YOUR VIDEO WAS THE EASIEST TO UNDERSTAND! -so it sounds like the 18ga for 3/4" trim boards & detail molding & pin for crafts, I like not having cords to trip over

Which one do you recommend to nail wood for flooring ? I have wood that I would like to use for my closet. I want a rugged look kinda style but I’m new to this and need tips and advice which nail gun it’s recommended and of course one that i can use for diy around the house
TFS Your Knowledge!!! I Purchased A Brad Nailer...And I Have Not Used It -Yet. Question: If I Have A Wet/Dry Vac...Can I Use It For A Compressor And Attach A Hose To It? TYIA!!!
I expect to fabricate multiple bird nesting boxes of various types. Sure I could use a hammer and nails but that could be a pain and screws would be rather slow. I purchased an electric DeWalt 5-in-1 multi tacker and brad nailer. I needed inch and a quarter nails since I am planning to use cedar fence slats for the nesting boxes. A battery operated gun would be nice but, since I am going to be working at my work bench, the corded variety is better for me. It is cheaper and since it doesn't use a heavy battery, the unit is a bit lighter in weight...
Thanks so much for the great video! Really great work! Interesting fact that not many people know... 20 Volt (Max) tools are actually 18 Volt tools!... Any Lithium Ion 18 Volt battery pack is actually 20 Volt when FULLY CHARGED... The moment you start using the tool, the voltage drops very rapidly to 18 Volt, where it remains for a very long time... Therefore the 20 Volt (Max) rating is actually a sales gimmick... They specify the MAX (FULLY CHARGED) Voltage of the 18 Volt battery pack rather than the nominal (working) voltage of the same battery pack (as specified by other manufacturers)! You will even notice that 20 Volt tools are called "20 VOLT MAX" by the manufacturers!... This is the reason for the "MAX" part of the description!
@@EternalHarvestDecor thanks for your wonderful and extremely informative videos! The reason I added this information is to "protect" buyers from being misled by this sales gimmick!... If you have a 18 Volt tool that still works, don't replace it with a 20 Volt Max tool just because you think that the "extra" 2 Volts is going to give you extra power!... If your 18 Volt tool is very old, obviously you will get better performance from a brand new 20 Volt Max tool (which is actually a 18 Volt tool as explained), but that's because of newer technology rather than 2 extra Volts! Therefore when buying a tool just realise that a 20 Volt Max tool is actually a 18 Volt tool, therefore it shouldn't influence your decision of which tool (18 Volt vs 20 Volt Max) to buy!... Rather compare the REAL FEATURES of the tools and make your decision accordingly!
great job! im looking for nailer for wainscotting which is on top of old plaster and lathe walls- would the dewalt do the trick with 1 and 1/2 inch nails - the wainscoting is 1/4 inch thick - thank you so much!
Yah 1 1/4- 1 1-/“ into studs are your best bet’ find your studs with stud finder magnet etc’ out a piece of painters tape where stud is also fun fact of u put tiny pieces of painters tape on the trim mdf quarter round etc before u use nail gun just shoot nail through tape then u can fill in with sparkle and not get it all over the wood/ mdf etc after dry pull up tape and you’re ready to paint
Hi Vicky! I would suggest a battery operated Craftsman or Dewalt 18 gauge for 2x material! Both are awesome Here is a link for the dewalt with no battery amzn.to/3iaV9JV Here is the link for a craftsman amzn.to/3nL7OEx Good luck!
Hi Vicky ta. The max nail length that I am aware of for 18 gauge nails is 2 inches (50mm)... Therefore it depends what you want to do!... The longest 18 gauge nails available will not (or hardly) go through any 2X material!... If you want to nail a thin piece of wood to a 2X, 18 gauge will work... But if you want to shoot a nail through any 2X to fix it to something else, an 18 gauge nailer will not work since the max nail length available is 2 inch!... Then I would suggest a "roof nailer" for which you can get nails of almost 4 inches. Roof nailers shoots PROPER nails with PROPER heads! One of the best options available for nails is actually a "palm nailer" since you can use literally ANY SIZE nail!... Palm nailers were previously available only for compressors (pneumatic) but you now get them in cordless as well!... They don't need special nails like other nailers, they can drive any nail that you can drive with a hammer (but in record time)! Probably the best advantage above a hammer is that it enables you to drive a nail where it would be impossible to drive the same nail with a hammer since there is not enough space to swing the hammer! Check them out on TH-cam, they are amazing!!! Called a "palm nailer"... The pneumatic version is dirt cheap compared to the cordless version (but you need a compressor, which I believe is a great investment anyway)... The nice thing with any type of pneumatic nailer is that you can get away with the smallest cheapest compressor since they don't require much air to operate
What brand/ size nail gun would you recommend for petite women? My hands are small and that DeWalt brad nailer looks massive/heavy, and I know that I need a size I can actually move around with and manage.
This is a great question. I’m a petite woman myself and I do love my dewalt. It is heavy though. I would suggest going to your local HD or Lowe’s. A lot their tools are on display and you can pick them up and get a few for them. This may help you figure out which you like best. I’ve heard good things about the craftsman
Nice video going over all the different types of nail guns. For the thickness/sizing it's easier to remember 18ga = 18 nails/inch, 23ga = 23 nails/inch, etc. The smaller, the better for finishing trim work.

I wondered about that. I expect that the same applies to wire and screws and electrical cables. I'm not sure about fish hooks.
Can't put a thicker nail through a thinner hole. 16 Gauge is bigger then the 18 Gauge. Larger the number smaller the diameter of the nail.
I would love to stick a 16ga in a 18ga DeWalt LMFAO put the ramp up on the flywheel out if its misery

Thank you for the breakdown. I work metal and decided to go into wood. This helped a lot. By the way, you have amazing teeth! Thanks again 😁

Thanks for watching! So glad you found it helpful
great job! im looking for nailer for wainscotting which is on top of old plaster and lathe walls- would the dewalt do the trick with 1 and 1/2 inch nails - the wainscoting is 1/4 inch thick - thank you so much!
This should work
Yah 1 1/4- 1 1-/“ into studs are your best bet’ find your studs with stud finder magnet etc’ out a piece of painters tape where stud is also fun fact of u put tiny pieces of painters tape on the trim mdf quarter round etc before u use nail gun just shoot nail through tape then u can fill in with sparkle and not get it all over the wood/ mdf etc after dry pull up tape and you’re ready to paint
Love the energy not to crazy just enough to show you
thanks

What size nail do u use for a pop nail in the ceiling
What type of nail gun would you recommend me!?
For the 2x4 and 2x6 wood
I would like to get a wireless if there is one!
Hi Vicky! I would suggest a battery operated Craftsman or Dewalt 18 gauge for 2x material! Both are awesome
Here is a link for the dewalt with no battery amzn.to/3iaV9JV
Here is the link for a craftsman amzn.to/3nL7OEx
Good luck!
The nice thing with any type of pneumatic nailer is that you can get away with the smallest cheapest compressor since they don't require much air to operate
is there any type of nail gun that can shoot the normal metal individual nails sizes like 1,1.5 ,2,...upto 6 inch
Very well explained. Thank you
Glad you liked it
What brand/ size nail gun would you recommend for petite women? My hands are small and that DeWalt brad nailer looks massive/heavy, and I know that I need a size I can actually move around with and manage.
This is a great question. I’m a petite woman myself and I do love my dewalt. It is heavy though. I would suggest going to your local HD or Lowe’s. A lot their tools are on display and you can pick them up and get a few for them. This may help you figure out which you like best. I’ve heard good things about the craftsman
