There's a weird charm to this game, I love the blocky character models. I wish I could play it, if only Sega would release a Virtua Fighter collection or something. The closest I've come to playing this game was the 10th anniversary mode from Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution.
When I got my Sega Saturn, I was actually upset at receiving the Remix version. The original Saturns were packed with the blocky characters and this one looked more like VF 2. One day, I may buy the original version. Should have bought it while it was at pawn shops cheap back in the day!
This was the start of the 3d revolution! I was a teen at the time and completely loved this era and lived every minute of it the games industry was really exciting then, Sega and Namco were pumping out aaa arcades one after the other and we got decent home conversions too, I played this on the Saturn for flipping months when I bought my Japanese Saturn, good days indeed.
Fun Fact: Virtua Fighter's composer used sound samples from SEGA's sound archive at the time, some of which have also been used in Sonic CD by a different composer.
That's good to know. I've recognized some of the samples from Sonic CD and I thought that my mind was playing tricks on me when I've heard a similar sample.
Hey just out of curiosity does mame cause glitching where characters would slide off the stage, and getting one punched off the stage? That would explain why when me and my friend were at the arcade the other day this game was glitching the hell out, due to maybe not being the real game inside the cabinet.
As far as I can tell, the only glitches are graphical. If you see odd polygons on the ground when the characters move then it is a sign that it is running on MAME.
SpooferJahk Well there are glitches like wrong camera angles on win poses, polygons flickering, and hair like Lau's braid or Sarah's pony tail appear on the floor and not on their head. There are also many problems with lighting inaccuracy.
LightBlue2222 It's confirmed that AM2 lost the code for VF2 but no one knows if VF1's code is lost, it probably is but it could be emulated just like the PS360 port of VF2, sadly it seems SEGA and AM2 don't care about VF in general now.
Virtua Fighter is remembered by Smithsonian Institution, while Guinness World Records was praising Tekken by incorrectly saying it was the first 3D fighting game. There are even Virtua Fighter 1 figmas.
No, Tekken wasn't the first 3D fighting game series. It's Virtua Fighter. But Tekken is way more popular and successful than Virtua Fighter (Tekken is the second best selling fighting game franchise, selling over 48 million copies), especially due to the fact that the latest game in the Virtua Fighter series is Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, which came out in 2012. It's 2019 now. The latest title in the Tekken series, Tekken 7, came out in 2017. Not only has Tekken taken Virtua Fighter's formula and perfected it, but it's also just happens to be a more successful franchise than Virtua Fighter, even though it came first. So yeah.
@@gr8gmr Does there *have* to be a point? It may be irrelevant to you, but I simply wished to speak of the history of the 2 3D fighting game franchises, and I did. The deed has been done.
@@indoguju heck yeah! Virtua Fighter 3 was also way ahead of its time. Released in the summer of 1996. Graphics that held up to games that were released 10 years later.
I always like listening to the audio on all these Model 1 and 2 games vs their Saturn conversions. I played them all in the arcade before Saturn got theirs, but of course, the Saturn soundtracks stand strongest in my memory due to the number of times I played them at home. It reminds me how biased reviewers were when it came to Sega. They'd be quick to point out the inferior visuals, but not really feel the need to mention the superior audio quality..........except for Daytona's attract/intro.....not wtf they were thinking with that on Saturn.
Definitely. To go from fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter to THIS. VF 1 actually came out not too long after Mortal Kombat II, which is quite insane to think about.
Some people may say this game looks ugly, I say it's charming. I wish Sega would make a Virtua Fighter collection, but then again they don't want to do anything with any series other than Sonic and Yakuza anymore...

It really does have a lot of charm, the hits feel so powerful, you can feel the weight of the fighters. Simply amazing.

GET DOWN!!
Oh,thanks for the fact bud
That explains the samples from Stardust Speedway.
Indeed. The opening to this game sounds like Stardust Speedway: Bad Future.
played this in the 90s in the arcade of the pool area of the holiday inn, morgantown, pa. haha such nostalgia
The day when MAME emulates this right will be the greatest day in history, seeing this from the actual hardware is just something else.

i hear Sega lost the source code for this game, meaning it can never be re created exactly like the original

@@gr8gmr It should've been quite obvious to you that I was simply talking of both Tekken and Virtua Fighter's history, nothing else.

That name entry music is both overlooked and classic. Love the arranged version too.
CLASSIC SEGA MUSIC. HITS U RIGHT IN THE FEELS.
=)
VF 1 still loks greate. And have best vf series soundtrack
It still looks rather cool, the flat polygon aesthetic gives a really cool style that still looks interesting.
Sega were absolutely crushing it in the 90s.
Sega was a tremendous gaming power in both arcades and consoles at that time. Shame they've never really recovered since.
Its awesome to play the actual arcade machine at
Cidercade in East Downtown Houston. Plus,
its on" free play mode."
That music is 🔥
안녕하세요..버추어 파이터 1 아키라를 잘 보고 갑니다..tkank you
Akira was always hard for me to play, that being said you can tell you played super safe at the end. By the end, you are playing out the clock.

Akira’s counter attacks are no joke! 😳

M1基盤はテクスチャーマッピングもグローシェーディングもないですがむしろそのほうが3DCGという感じがします。
The aspect ratio of the video seems to be 16:9 and the actual game is, I think, 4:3. It looks stretched. Greetings from Colombia, I love this game.
At 0:35, why is there just the word "SEGA" written in plain blue text spinning around instead of the actual Sega logo?
Mostly i think dey did dis Just to show how is 3D works lol
見てるこっちが恥ずかしくなるプレイですが、懐かしいのをありがとうございますw
ああ、私もプレイが下手恥ずかしいです。まぁ、楽しく視聴していただきありがとうございます。^^;
Is the aspect ratio stretched for this vid? Looks almost widescreen.
Mame is getting awfully close to being perfect. Hopefully that will be the case soon.
BOI SARAH IS SO FACKIN AGRESSIVE LIKE WHAT AKIRA DONE TO HER MAN

Yeah, SEGA is 'BOB' in ONLY ARCADE...^^;
That Dural fight was pretty entertaining.

It’s essentially the same game as the newest one
The game looks pretty yellowish in this video.

Quite sad Akira is an assist,Jacky should have been the assist, meaning Akira would have the chance
@@lynk172 if Akira would be a fighter, they'd have to change his aesthetic aside from the blocky polygonal look tho lol
I sucked so bad at this game
So do i

sonic the fighters is better
