Thanks for the info. I’m guessing that putting an electrical fireplace that is rated 750-1500 watts on Amazon directly to a power outlet and having a tv on the same outlet would cause a fire?

Hello. Newer TVs don't draw a lot of power. However, electric fireplaces have heaters, which usually max out around 1500 watts. They ideally require a dedicated circuit; that's an outlet that goes straight to the electrical panel and there are no other outlets or lights on that same circuit breaker. If you plug in a fireplace to an outlet that's on a shared circuit, as regular outlets would usually be, and you turn up the heater past the available power on the circuit, the circuit will overload and your circuit breaker will trip to Off. You will then have to reset the breaker, after reducing the load on your circuit by turning the heater down or off. It's highly unlikely that a fire will occur, in a properly wired home. However, having a circuit breaker tripping every time your heater is on is a warning that your wiring is insufficient for the fireplace. (And it's annoying!) If this is happening, stop using the heater, and consult a licensed electrician.

@@stylishfireplaces thank You so much for this helpful advice. I called Electrician yesterday and he is coming to do a dedicated line. My issue is that the heater I am buying from Amazon is between 750 to 1500 W but it doesn’t say how many voltage so I’m assuming it will be 110 and not 240v. If that’s the general volts they are

@@tamir5940 Right, a plug-in electric fireplace is 110/120 volts not 240 volts. All electric fires are 120 volts; some also connect to 240 volts, but not the majority.

Most are 15 amps. This should be noted in every Owner's Manual.

    would that be a 14/3 or a 12/2? romex

Just confirmed with our installer: Most electric fireplaces that are on a 120V line the wiring is 14/2, and most that are on a 240V line is 12/3 (technically could be 14/3 but most electricians would put it on 12/3).
