Part of our intention in publishing our gift book for educators, Heart of a Teacher, was to honor the teachers who had made a difference in our lives. Ms. Bridges, who taught the fourth grade, was amazing! She made learning so much fun and made all of us feel as though we could do anything we wanted to do. Years later, the impact she made on me as a young child is still evident in my current success.
As Andy Rooney once said, “Most of us end up with no more than five or six people that remember us. Teachers have thousands of people who remember them for the rest of their lives.” Why is that? It’s because of the heart of a teacher. A heart made of generosity, joy, wisdom, compassion, patience, and purpose. Read the full Heart of a Teacher poem here.

This is a beautiful reminder of the impact we have as educators. A dear parent sent this to me as a thank you. Relationships matter. Listen to the children....it goes way beyond the "content" we teach.

Dedicated to all the teachers who make such a difference in the lives of our youth. I pray that the reformers who want to scapegoat the teachers for all the ills of society see this and understand that education is the job of society. Children do not grow up in isolation of their family, community and larger societal influences. If a child fails...we all do. I know...I taught for 36 years.

All the way from South Africa, it was two weeks ago when I visited by son's kindergarten, as I was awaiting to meet the school clerk I observed and my eyes met up with this incredible book and asked the lady to lend it to me for a few days. The title of the book "Heart of a teacher"invigorated my passion for teaching. Little did I know that this book would continue to inpsire me as a teacher. I am recommending it for all teachers and will be placing orders for teachers under my department at our school located in a rural village operating in mobile classes.
I'm so amazed by the content and message of this. It really touches My Heart. I remembered my Teachers from my kindergarten years til today, without them helping, building, molding us. We would not gone this far.
My mom is a teacher. I know how hard it is to be a teacher. Without teachers there would be no lawyers, businessmen, etc.
I cried while reading the last words of the poem.

Teachers are victims of the system just as much as students are - the good ones stick around because they want to change the world. Even the worst teachers I've had have served a purpose: they showed me precisely what kind of teacher I will NEVER be. Those cases of child molestation you mention are tragic and horrendous, but anyone who would ever dare harm a child is not REALLY a teacher. I'm sorry that you've lost faith in the system, but so have I, and that's exactly why I want to teach. So I

As a male teacher, I find the patriarchy in this video unsettling. Are male students the only students worthy or capable of learning? Are males not equipped for the job of teaching?
