Many thanks Katherine! I started transcribing from the video to MIDI a few days ago (I don't know how to read music sheet... yet :P. Will have to learn now! :) )
This has recently got a lot of attention and I’m not sure why, but thank you everyone for sharing my piano cover :) I’ve recently learned how to transcribe sheet music, I’m gonna work on this asap so it can be on flowkey and/or Musicnotes! I’ll update on my Twitter and on here when it’s done.
A small detail I love about this song is how the scale-like melodies at the beginning double back and repeat themselves halfway through, almost like the melody is chasing itself the same way Badeline chases the player.
_Sometimes, I don't really know what's going on anymore. I- I don't know who I am. I just look in the mirror, and don't know who I'm looking at or who's looking at me. I think a lot about where my train of thought is going, and it's not always a good place, and that scares me. I don't like scaring myself, at all..._
Welp, I definitely needed to cry this morning so thanks..... I remember the first time i heard this and holy lord, it hits like a ton of bricks. Love it, but oof.....
Giovanni The coordination and memorization is 100x more difficult than figuring out the notes. Anyone who has done any sort of music on any instrument for 5-10 years could figure it out
Mike Lesaski no, playing by ear takes practice like any skill. It doesn’t come naturally to most. A friend of mine started playing flute at the exact same time I started playing clarinet and, performance wise, we are even. However, she has spent far more time than I have working on her ear and relative pitch. I can’t listen to a piece and transcribe it yet with loads of time and a computer- she can play something back straight after hearing it. She barely ever reads music anymore at this point. You have to actively work on your pitch skills to play by ear.
Musical Brit Yep, and the amount of practice needed to take this and figure it out is a few years at most. The instrument is irrelevant- just that you have played it enough. People compliment “the ear” when every single musician can hear and transcribe simple things like this- the coordination and actual playing of it is by FAR the difficult part.
Mike Lesaski Hmmm. Kind of like how some people are better at English than math and vice versa, I think that the difficulty can vary on the person. While I do think that most people can become good at picking things with their ear, it still takes several years of training for it to become feasible, and not everyone is able to learn at the same pace (or have the same level of skill). I mean, I know people who can read, coordinate, and add all of the impressive dynamics to difficult pieces, but still can't get the hang of playing by ear just because their brains don't like to work that way
Giovanni exactly. It takes YEARS, to get even decent at it. This piece isn’t too bad seeing as a lot of it is at least arpeggiated, but block chords are downright indecipherable for me personally no matter how hard I try. Unlike learning to play an instrument I’ve personally found working on my ear to be awfully slow at giving you any sort of result to motivate you. If when you started piano it took you months before you could play anything you’d be discouraged. I’ve been attempting to learn this skill for ages now and can still do no more than melody lines. It seems unapproachable to me right now. Learning an instrument is a steady curve, but playing by ear seems like a cliff. Saying that every single musician can hear and transcribe like this is a downright lie, I know a ton of musicians and maybe 3/4 can play by ear well. I’m not some dud, there are a lot of people who’ve had the same experience.
Oooooooooooo.... A wonderful interpretation. I like how you made up for the lack of an underlying beat with passionate playing to up the hype moments. Well done!
Amazing drop at 2:30 with the arpeggios, the left hand is working a lot, the arpeggio being played all the time replace the lack of drums from the original song. Beautiful perfomance
Celeste is one of the most amazing games i've known and played, for many reasons. I could stand here and talk about why i adore it so much and why it is so important to me and so many other people, but that would not be interesting so i'll just say that the OST for this game is just perfect, and i' glad i found it. I got to 5:34 and then I actually noticed the strawberries and knew what part was coming shortly and was feeling the anticipation. I'll be learning this wonderful cover, thank you for the visuals :)
Having listened to this version and many other piano covers of the Celeste soundtrack, what impresses me is the consistency. You don't make weird tempo changes or unneeded dramatic flares. You add enough cause you are transposing a soundtrack with multiple digital instruments into one piano, but you keep the orginal composition true. Well done.
This cover of Resurrections is amazing! The first part is calming and sounds nice, but then it gets super intense. You nailed the entire feel of the song. Great Work!
After watching this Video for so many times, i want to say thank you Katherine. This cover are like a warm blanket when i got insomnia. It calmed my body and soul.
