i sold 50/50 and programs along up and down those hills ! My mom had the glhs shelby omni it was red at the foot of the hill we sold programs and 50/50

I was there in (I think it was 1981) in the fall it was for some big purse late model dirt track race. Neal Bonnet showed up, I was there with my then husband (now my ex), he was a big racing fan and his best friend was a pretty good late model driver that was there to race. My husband was on his crew, so my husband had to be there. We rented a big travel trailer and drove it there from Maryland for the event. I didn't know any of the big name drivers by sight, the only Nascar driver I might have been able to recognize back then was Richard Petty but he wasn't there. I had zero clue what Neal Bonnet looked like. My husband had mentioned hearing Neal might be there to race. I got sick of the noise and all the people and activity around the track and wound up taking a walk away from the track, to try to get some peace and quiet for a bit. I was standing sort of on a slope looking toward the track when this nice older man walked up, he said hello and also faced the track, after a minute or two he asked me where I was from and told me where he was from, he which drivers I liked, I remember telling him I really didn't like car racing at all but my husband did. I told him I hated watching it in person and on TV and was always afraid someone would be hurt or killed. I told him I was there because my husband's hobby was working on his buddy's crew and that car racing took up a lot of my husband's free time. I remember him saying he could see how racing might interfere with family life. He said he was there because he really liked car racing a lot, probably too much. We had a nice fairly long chat, just the 2 of us, pretty far away from the chaos at the track, enjoying a bit of calm. Later that day my husband and I were walking and my husband said there he is,, there's Neal Bonnet and my husband pointed at the man I'd talked to on my walk. Neal Bonnet smiled, this big smile at me as he did the finger point gun thing towards me and said Hi there,, good to see you again. I'll never forget the look on my husband's face as he turned to me and asked how the heck I knew Neal Bonnet. Lol it was funny! I'll also never forget how quickly my mind was working to try to remember what negative things I'd said to Neal Bonnet about car racing..lol I also remember a band playing on some stage and a huge fist fight breaking out there, one like they always show happening in westerns in a saloon. It was crazy.. I also remember that a lot of people were drunk, and I remember some people being angry about the lack of promised free BBQ or something. It was cold there and 2 or 3 people died, or were rumored to have died after being taken away by ambulance. They had been in their camper that was parked close to our motor home, they turned on their heat and got carbon monoxide poisoning. My husband's friend didn't qualify due to some part failing on his car during his heat and Neal Bonnet placed low, I don't remember who won the race at all but I do remember that weekend. I was sad when Neal Bonnet died, he was a nice man even to people that were not fans of racing and he obviously didn't think of himself as a celebrity or behave like one. My husband said Neal had probably enjoyed talking to someone that treated him like an average Joe. We never went to Pennsboro again, tracks we went to the most were Lincoln and Williams Grove in PA. I was hoping to find video from that race in 1981 but I guess that was too long ago for there to be any online.
a company was selling dvd's of the race in 1983, you can probably find them on the internet. try looking for a dvd of DTWC, even if it wasn't the championship race he might have tapes of the race. i was there 83-84-and 85.
man i lliked how the dirt late model body templates looked back then compared to today. i mean they dont look crazy different or anything lol. its just something about them though.
So so many great o race tracks are closed and gone now cause way to many kids and people have gotten away from the great sport of racein if they would get off the computer some times and go watch it in person they would see how fun and great it is

Pennsboro is coming back in 2024!!! It's being done by the same people bringing back the north Wilkesboro nascar track. Also idk if you've been back to atomic speedway but they got a new owner and all the big tours came back in 2022 including WoO.

If I could win the lotto I'd move down there and buy the track and re-open it!, other than working and surviving that's what them people lived for on the weekends!. I live real close to donnie Moran and his track and root his son Devin on!. At 65 I'm on limited income but I play the lotto everyday so I'll keep hoping!.
Is this the track that you have to go through a tunnel to get to it? I remember the race haulers barely fit in it. It’s been many years since I’ve been there. Why did it close?
So SAD to watch one by one ,speedways going and put out of business. By people moving into the area of speedways that don't like dust and noise. One by one disappearing. Reading fairgrounds, Flemington N.J. N.Y.s fairgrounds speedway and langhorn speedway in Pennsylvania and possibly Albany Saratoga speedway in upstate N.Y. Slowly but surely Nascar is micro managing itself out of business. In Rensselaer County N.Y. had 17 speedways ! Not one exists today .The cost factor of racing and combining with progress is detrimental to our sport
@@shaynejenkins446 It is going to now. They got the permits a couple days ago. They're gonna be redoing the big track. New bridges, widen the track. The stuff that it needs. 1/4 Mile plan is gone, big track is back.
it is a damn shame the people in that town can't get their shit together and open that place back up it could make a lot of money for that small town aot of people don't know this but that track is owned by the town not a private person
Word of wisdom, just beacuse you like a song for any reason. Keep it out of your videos. I was at the very first race at the Pen . Sure would be nice to hear the announcer of the different years when they were speaking but you must not g.a.s.🙄

Stood on the back of Bernard Tripplets wrecker and watched the hillbilly 100 way way back in the day ,I was 17 then now I'm 67 and never forgot

My father & I sat on that hillside in 1988 and watched a 100 lap race. The 10 hour drive was well worth it 👍
