What a gorgeous creek! I love your videos. Stunning scenery, beautiful wild trout, and very informational fishing. I enjoyed this video immensely. This one had a touch of a different feel to it. Thank you!
This is such a cool video. I know you like to fish dry’s and streamers. That’s also cool. Nice to see you fish some Kebari’s.I’m stuck on a tugboat for pretty much the rest of the summer. I might get up to the Sierras in fall.
My goodness Chris, what a gorgeous location! And those were some beautiful browns! I love the scale, gradient, rockiness, and flow of that creek for tenkara, just perfect in my book. You're also speaking my language with the "one fly" approach (here in the Driftless I almost exclusively use a no-hackle UKB). I like that the single fly more closely pays homage to traditional Japanese tenkara. I'm a level line guy, but I'm curious as to the line sag you experienced with that kit's furled line. Hope TRC is paying you well, they're getting a lot of commercial mileage out of you! Once again, your cinematography is unmatched in the tenkara YT world. Well done and thanks for sharing the experience!
100% my friend, talk about a perfect tenkara creek. Honestly probably the best all around creek I've fished all year. Level line would have been the better choice here, probably in a subdued color, but the heft and smoothness of casting the furled line was quite addicting. You should give one a try. And besides, it's a traditional choice! At least, as far as I understand it!
If you're interested in this kit show TRC, Top Designs, and myself some love and go check it out on their website! (Link above). BTW, it also comes with a bigger shoulder style bag in the kit but I was trying to keep things as minimal as possible for the video. Thanks for watching!
A thoroughly enjoyable outing - though I can relate to your frustration with the spooked trout. Yeah, put brown trout in a crystal clear spring creek (with the food bounty that spring creeks are renowned for) and you will be dealing with some picky eaters! But I think you did quite well considering the constraints of the challenge you imposed upon yourself. Oh, such a beautiful stream - thank you again for another of your visually spellbinding outings!
Thanks so much Michael! It was just about the perfect mix of challenge while still getting into a decent number of fish, in my estimation! Browns in a crystal clear creek just seem to go hand in hand! Thanks for watching!
Most of the fishing I do is in tight quarters so probably more than half my casts are bow and arrow casts. I’ve not fished a Tenkara rod yet but they seem idea for bow and arrow casts. I fish furled leders on traditional fly rods and have had good success with them. Great video, makes me want to try a short Tenkara rod sooner rather than later.
I may just suck at bow and arrow casts, but I always suspected that a regular fly rod was a better tool for them, since they are a good bit shorter in general but with longer line that you can really flip out there. With tenkara, I find the read to be very limiting when doing bow and arrow casts in tight spots, as your rod is generally going to be shorter to deal with the surroundings as well as your line. It's tough. But, it can certainly work as well. Don't shy away from short tenkara rods btw, they are in fact a ton of fun and very effective, I'm just iffy on the bow and arrow casts in general!
@@FlickyFlies after I replied I realized you were using a longer rod. I’m looking at getting one of those 4’ 11” Tenkara rods specifically for some creeks I fish that have spots that are fishy but still too tight and overgrown for my 6’ 2” fly rod. It took me awhile to be a serviceable bow and arrow caster but it’s increased my chances. Great content on your channel and nice job on some really spooky fish. 👍🏻👍🏻
@@viking7560 I'd be interested in trying out one of those super short rods as well! Shortest I've got is about 6.5-7 feet or so, I believe! Thanks for watching, glad you're liking the channel!
You set yourself a difficult task with red line and short leaders on skinny water. You would have definitely benefited from level line, light leader and nymphs. The area is spectacular and as usual a beautiful production. Thanks for all your efforts they are always appreciated.
Some say the tug is the drug, i think the chalenge is as addictive as the tug: the more i get ignored/frustrated, the more i want to get a tight line! Nice vid!
I'm in northern Colorado so I end up driving up into Wyoming more often than anywhere else, but I love the Black Hills in SD during runoff season, the mountains of Colorado (of course), and exploring the desert southwest whenever I can. I've still never made it up to Idaho or Montana, but they are on the list big time.
I dig the vibe of your videos, Chris.
Little known fact is that the ‘F’ in ‘WTF’ stands for Furled.
Tight (level) lines,
Mitch
Ohhh interesting! I love learning new facts about the history of tenkara!
What a wonderful creek. For the really tight areas consider the bow-and-arrow cast.
Love landing a good bow-and-arrow cast! Thanks for watching!

Thanks so much for the super kind comment Troy! Really glad you're loving the videos!

Totally! It was a really nice change of pace. What are you doing on the tugboat? My grandpa used to be a captain on Moran boats.

Natural colored furled leaders are the biz! Great stuff man!
I think that would be an incredible compromise. Gotta try that out soon.
Beautiful location and love the kebari challenge you created. Thanks for another zen video!
Thanks Adam!! It was a perfect day out there and the challenge was really fun.

@@FlickyFlies Tiny Tenkara is the one I was looking at. They have a 4’ 11” and 8’ models. The small one is $89.00 I believe.

For sure! Thanks as always for watching Craig!
Roll casting? Guess I should try out furled line sometime. 🤔
I think that was the biggest surprise for me too. It was REALLY helpful in these tight quarters!

Totally Carlos! Lots of good options for having a good day on the water for sure.
What state(s) do you fish in the most?

Hey Flicky, here's a hint. Don't wear a white shirt when fishing.
It’s blue but I wear it to make thumbnails. Camo doesn’t look so hot for those. Gotta play that TH-cam game at times.
heading to Oregon The end of August, plan on wet wading all week. Do those pants dry fairly quickly? Who makes them?
