    Tim Mosso’s curated luxury watch gallery arrives loaded with high horology and high value from the Watchbox inventory! Preowned luxury watches from $2,950 to $200,000 ensure that all watch buyers, watch collectors, and watch enthusiasts are guaranteed to find the right match for their tastes, wrists, and budgets. This is TH-cam’s only curated luxury watch safari!
    Today’s show features one Rolex watch, the Rolex Day Date 40. This 40mm white gold calendar complication, also known as the Rolex “President” or “Presidential,” is ready for its next administration on your wrist! With a 70-hour power reserve, double quickset day-date calendar, and a 100-meter water resistance, this is a Rolex with broad appeal. The bracelet, which is properly named the “Rolex President,” includes ceramic-coated pins designed to end Rolex bracelet stretch for all time. This reference 228239 includes a white dial with white gold applied roman numeral hours and the celebrated Rolex crown logo.
    Grand Seiko watches arrive in two varieties on today’s program. The first is a 44.2mm Grand Seiko dive watch, the SBGA031. This is a titanium spring drive diver with 200-meter water resistance, an adjustable diving clasp, and a unidirectional rotating dive bezel. Its Seiko Spring Drive automatic movement includes a power reserve indicator, a 72-hour power reserve, and outstanding quartz-watch accuracy of +/- 15 seconds per month.
    Fans of a more compact Grand Seiko shape will enjoy the 2020 Grand Seiko “Soko” collection SBGA429. Inspired by the season of autumn and early snowfalls, this poetic edition includes a dark “shadow” grey brushed dial and green accents inspired by the forests of northern Japan in late fall. A Spring Drive automatic caliber 9R65 provides outstanding precision, the Zaratsu-polished steel case reflects meticulous hand-finishing, and the color-matched alligator leather strap pairs perfectly with the dial.
    Fans of German watches will appreciate two standouts from Glashutte. First is the white gold A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Perpetual with a flyback chronograph, perpetual calendar, and a dark rhodium dial crafted from sterling silver. Second in order but not distinction is the Zeitwerk Striking Time, a jumping time digital display watch that strikes notes at the turn of the hour and the quarters.

    Not many know this but the name "Seiko", when directly translated into English, actually means "date at three". (Se = date, i = at, ko = three)

    I feel like this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but while I think GS does soooooo many things right and brings you more value than literally anyone else, they're not quite there yet.
    This particular watch is another example of getting it almost perfect, but it's a bit too thick for the profile. If you're going to do a 39 millimeter watch and you're going for that elegant look, my general rule of thumb is (diameter/3) -1, so a 39mm watch should be 12mm or thinner. I realise this sounds super nitpicky, but when I'm dropping thousands of dollars on a watch, I expect it to be the perfect example of what I'm getting.
    I don't think Rolex gives you better value than a GS, but when you pay 9700$ for a GMT, you're getting the perfect version of what that watch is supposed to be. A rugged sports watch with the perfect proportions and a hugely robust mechanical movement.
    Grand Seiko took a step towards this with the seasons collection, and I think SLGH003 (which I think is just perfect in terms of dimensions) is a signal that they're now stepping into the realm of absolute perfection. I imagine I'll be buying one in about a year or two, but not quite yet.

    • @Moe90rules
      @Moe90rules 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      fully agreed. GS really seems to excel at certain aspects, but for some aspects seems to really fall behind some competitors (thickness of the watches, bracelet, clasp)

    • @sidewinderxx
      @sidewinderxx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      totally agree with you and it's not overly nitpicky, it's realistic.. 12mm or thinner shouldn't be so difficult
      The Cartier Santos, albeit with a traditional non-spring drive movement, is under 10mm and curves to the wrist
      And as you say Rolex as boring as they are just get the proportions so right
      I'll throw microadjusting clasps in with your hit list for the perfect GS

    • @glenbuyer8738
      @glenbuyer8738 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t feel the dimensions are overly off, they wear better then you’d think. I own the skyflake, wears nicely and it’s presence on the wrist is fairly subdued. My main gripe is the clasp and strap, needs improvement, as far as the case, dial, hands, movement and over all finishing are concerned it’s a very nice watch.
