I need to move ASAP! I'm sitting in my neighborhood bar in NYC watching your video on my phone. My ONE glass of wine is $19. This is my second one so effectively I will spend more on 2 glasses of wine + tip, than you did on your date night. And I am STARVING!! Unbelievable....I'm afraid I may drink too much once I live there.
Haha yeah it’s not super fair to compare the price of wine here to NYC, but we hear ya. It’s a pretty sweet deal.
When I lived in A Coruna (2011-2012), tapa hopping prices were similar to Rei Do Xamon for tapas. The vino prices really haven't changed from what I seen.
That's interesting to hear.
Hi guys! Love your videos❤. Ideas for your vlogs: how did you guys decide to live in Galicia? Did you guys look at other cities? How many caminos do you walk a year? Are you planning to return to the US? How old are you? How long have you been together? How did Shawn’s family end up in Spain? Nosy people want to know …… I mean inquiring minds want to know😅. XOXO😊
Thanks so much! Some of these questions are great for a future FAQ video, so we'll only answer a few now. :) Since we moved to Spain, we walk maybe 3 Caminos a year. We've looked at a few cities in Spain, but decided to try it here. Because we walked Caminos, we spent enough time in Galicia to know we love it.
Los Vinos is such a great area, but almost impossible to get a table if you get there too late. The feria del Pulpo is coming up in Carballiño soon!
It really is! Many people reserve tables on the weekends, too.
Thanks, guys, for another fun and informative vid! I will definitely check out one or more of your recommended spots when I get to Ourense in early July✌
It’s the best.
Wow! I don't think you can get even one tortilla for $10.50 here in Toronto. Never mind all that you got at your first stop! Your whole night out at 3 different spots costs less than a burger and a drink here 🤪
That's it! I'm moving to Spain! 😂
Yeah it’s pretty great value for money here. And we tried to show real places and not just select the cheapest things, but things we both love (with wine at every stop!)
These are great videos. I’m a big fan of that wine!
Thanks so much!
Yummm! I'm ready to come back!
Do it!
Fun video! I actually felt full after watching it.
Then we did our job!
It was cool to see you today, on the invierno.
Heimo and Monika from Austria
You too! We love meeting pilgrims on the Camino and we’re so happy our videos were helpful. Buen Camino and enjoy your walk into Santiago!!!
Thanks to your recommendation we had such a lovely authentic tapas experience at Bar Fuentefria! 🥰
It’s a great spot. Hope you liked Ourense!
Love this video ❤
It seems like Ourense is worth a visit on a future camino ⚜️ Sadly it won't be next time (in a month) since we're travelling further to Palermo the next morning from our arrival in Santiago.
BTW Lainey, you really got that hair going 👌
Thank you! Ourense is a nice place to spend some time. Palermo also sounds awesome! (I got a haircut the same day we filmed this. 😃)
I'm a BIG tortilla fan. Your version is a tad too soft for me (the one with the cebolla caramelizada in O Frade), but I share your overall direction. You go towards the "Betanzos style". Great stuff!. BTW: Since U guys are usually looking for suggestions. Whenever you are finishing the Camino Francés. Chek this tortilla out: O Ceadoiro in Santa Irene. For me, possibly the best tortilla.
Oh yeah. We’re all about that Betanzos style. Gooey and golden. We will absolutely check out that tortilla recommendation since we’re on the hunt for the perfect tortilla. Thanks so much and thanks for watching.
Thank for this! I'm thinking of walking the Vía de la Plata starting in Ourense next year. I love to experience the local culture when I can, so this is just perfect for me. I've been enjoying all your videos.
Thanks so much! We just finished walking the Sanabrés/Vía de la Plata from Ourense so watch for that video later this summer.
@@DaysWeSpend I'm looking forward to it!
Looks like a great night out! ❤️ Making 3 stops for the sake of a video, lol, love your sacrifice. 😂 We look forward to when we arrive in Galicia.
It was awesome! We're still full. 😂
Buen Camino!
Thanks for doing this for us. I will make sure to invite you to some wine when I'm there!
So sorry you had to eat so much on our behalf!😉
We’re out here making the big sacrifices for you guys!
Someone had to take the hit for the team! Thx. Looking forward to the next episode of days ‘we’ spend vicariously through two lovely people we’ve never met.
@@KF0999-yg2sn Thanks so much!
Very interesting -- and it seems you both enjoyed the night out . Although close to the border with Portugal, I have heard that bus links to places such as Chaves are a bit hit and miss. Any local info ? Many thanks .
Thanks for watching. We don't know much about the bus links to Portugal since we haven't tried taking them.
You made me hungry.
Thank you for the all the time nice and interesting videos.
Maybe you can create also one about how to order food in a bar and in which way to pay (e.g. cash or card) and to give a tip. (How much, to let it on the table or to give it directly to the waiter)
Wishing you the best
J
Thanks so much. We'll add that video idea to our list. For tipping, if you have amazing service, you can give it to the waiter. Or, if you pay in cash just leave a bit more. Usually tipping is for fancier restaurants.
Thanks a lot
Than i ll wait for your next video 😊
😋😋😋😋food rich rich rich
Hi, I have enjoyed many of your great, informative videos. I am wondering how you overcome the 2-step authentication process required by US banks and government agencies, in which a US phone number is needed? I understand that a local number in Spain is also required? Is there a low cost way of accomplishing this?
Thanks so much! For our phones, we ported our American numbers to Google Voice (one time $20 fee). We also have local Spanish numbers.
May BUENO!!!!!
Haha we know we know. It was an inside joke. Sorry for the grammar but thanks for watching.
How has your daily schedule been modified? Are you used to eating at 8:30pm (or later) and stores opening and closing and opening again throughout the day?
Great question. We have completely adapted to where it feels weird to eat before 8 or 9pm. And we barely notice the midday siesta break anymore. It just makes sense once you live here a while. I’m not saying it’s perfect and isn’t inconvenient sometimes, but it’s normal and we’ve adapted to that pace.
Genuine contentment is easy to spot. You two have it in spades ❤
Thank you!
So, my goal is to be in Spain on August 12 2026. See you then, maybe!
Sounds like a plan! Buena suerte. 👍🏻
Oh that food.. 🤪 That tortilla es so fluffy I’m gonna die!! 😬 By the way, just one little correction (even though Lainey, your Spanish rocks!). “Muy bien” = Very well, whereas “Muy bueno” = Very good (as for taste) 😊
Absolutely. It’s a bit of an inside joke but we should use proper Spanish next time. Thanks for the reminder and thanks for watching 😁 (and yes, that tortilla is ridiculous)
@@DaysWeSpend nah, it's cool so 😉 By your excellent level of Spanish I should have hinted that it was some kind of joke.
Question- Do you tip? Great video, I was wondering if you tip and if so how much... I know Spain doesn't have the tipping culture of the US.
At these places we don’t tip unless we pay with cash and it’s more of a rounding. Tipping isn’t expected but obviously appreciated. In Spain it’s never more than a euro for pinchos like what we got, but no most people don’t tip here, at least in our experience.
@@DaysWeSpend thank you- Probably the number one question I get from friends and family .
mmmmmmm
Quality of life . But do not speak up too much or foreigners will come to the north.
This is high crime. To live life like that. Should be arrested and sent to Gulag. 🥃🥃
I can hear sirens in the distance…
