I picked up the following Criterion blu rays: The Bruce Lee Box set, Blue Velvet, Valley of the Dolls, Blow Out, The Tree of Life, Pan's Labyrinth and House
At first I wasn't so big in Irishman. But after watching it again and again I loved it. The acting is great and especially I love Ray rameno as the lawyer. Him and pesci were fantastic.
These are all nice, beautiful sets. That is a Furby on the inside of the Uncut Gems package with the eyes. You know I collected me some Furby's back in the day. 😁
Solaris is good introduction to Tarkovsky's films. If you will not like this one do not bother checking other Tarkovsky films. Although my personal favorite is Stalker.
I mentioned in another comment that my favorite Tarkovsky film is Mirror. I'm also a huge fan of Andrei Rublev and I do very much like Stalker. All that said, I agree that Solaris is the best film to start with. At some point, I need to watch The Sacrifice, which was highly praised on another channel. I own it but haven't got to it yet.
I bought these 2 today. So pumped for these. I love both art works . But man no way in hell I'm paying 50bucks . I will wait until the sale goes on again to buy 4k transfers.
I only ended up grabbing four Criterion Collection films this month: 'Bringing Up Baby,' 'Defending Your Life,' 'Desert Hearts,' (now have all three releases of this classic) and 'Silence of the Lambs.' I had picked up 'The Irishman' when it was first released late last year (although I still haven't gotten around to watching it).
The Night of the Hunter is a great film about a Minister turned killer , Charles Laughton was a amazing British actor that won several oscars . This is one of only a couple films he directed and in my opinion the best one. Great Video 👍
The eyes from the “gremlin creature” are “Furby” eyes lol but man that is a beautiful digi pack I plan on picking up. This November I scooped up from Criterion: Memories of Murder The Killing Scanners Pans Labyrinth War of the Worlds Citizen Kane 4K
Can anybody advise whether these 4k releases can be purchased in the UK? I can only see the standard blu ray avaliable for pre order through criterion UK, hmv & Zavvi.
Wow that Uncut gems is so visually pleasing and the Menace 2 society is nice as well. I watched Menace last night and I really enjoyed it. I think you'll like it as well. 😊
Good stuff Ken, my Criterion pickups are Citizen Kane, Menace II Society, Mulholland Drive and Uncut Gems all 4K’s… Mulholland Drives transfer is not very good. No HDR but even worse is the menu options Play and Subtitles that’s it no audio option and no chapter selection. Lazy Criterion just lazy. Citizen Kane Blu-ray disk problems. Menace looked good though have not watched Kane or Gems yet.

One word of caution: Don't go into this one completely cold. You'll benefit tremendously from some advance knowledge of what to expect. Man I would love to get menace II society on 4k from critrion bc of how good the film is but critrion has gone the cheap crappie route with there packaging bc critrion should have used the 4k black cases or have done there clear cases with the 4k logo on the top of the case but critrion just drop the ball on there packaging for there 4k releases and it is a shame and I will not be buying any of critrion 4k as long as they keep do the crappie digipack on there 4k releases and good video and info on the new releases keep them coming
Plastic trays for the discs with a high priced release? What a novel idea! I am so EFFIN disappointed with the Citizen Kane release. Besides the disc recall for the regular Blu-ray I have to send back and jump through hoops to get the replacement, the packaging is HORRIBLE! Scratchity scratch cardboard sleeves to hold the discs. Yeah I only paid $30 instead of the full retail of $60 but still far too expensive. Smaller studios have far far better packaging over this cheap cardboard pile of . . .
I agree with you about the packaging. I absolutely hate the sleeves. I think it's appalling that Criterion would put the discs at risk, particularly for an expensive marquee release. I'm fortunate that I'm not a purist when it comes to displaying titles in my curated collection. I transferred the discs to a four-tray plastic case and I'm using cover art from a UK Blu-ray edition to display the title on my shelf. The Criterion packaging has already gone into the garbage. 😃

I too got a fill of criterion in july. This month I picked up Carnival of Souls and Videodrome. I am debating whether I should get Mulholland dr.

Night of the Hunter used to come in a Digipak. Weird and disappointing that it doesn't anymore.
