    • @inkajoo
      @inkajoo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      The Wii was barely profitable, I think they made $15 on each unit. And on the Wii U they sold a console at a loss for the first time, but not by much I think around $10-20. I'd be surprised given all that you get in the base set if they're making a ton of money on the Switch. This is the kind of tech you find in premium ultrabooks and tablets. Precision engineering and expensive materials. Nintendo has always tried to make money on the consoles, but they make their real money from software and merchandising.

    • @mumblic
      @mumblic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      +Nepu-Tech USA That piece of plastic contains a usb-C-hub. typical market price between $30-$60. take $45 as average The dock contain also a 39w usb-c power adapter: price $30. + decent HDMI cable $10. Total so far: $85 Then there is $5 left for what you call a piece off plastic. If you would have informed yourself you would have noticed that there is much more inside. Conclusion: $90 is in line with the typical market prices. Oops, somebody made a fool of himself.that's a LOL worthy, right!

      The components aren't worth 300 Dollars.

    The dock is actually worth $80.Just go on Google right now and look up usb-c docks.You'll be amazed at how expensive they are,in addition to the dock you're also getting HDMI output and 2 usb 2.0 ports and a usb 3.0 port all for $80 compared to the other dock prices.Even if it is 90% plastic it still is worth $80.

      Genghis Khan or Osama Bin Laden? They probably did not have enough time to do a full tear down review seeing as how the switch just came out today. I doubt Nintendo sent them one early otherwise they would have likely had a full tear down review.

  • @xxnike0629xx
    @xxnike0629xx 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Awesome.
    This definitely looks super easy to open just to clean dust, replace thermal paste, etc.
    I'm a bit suspicious about the dock since there's a lot of unused space.
    Maybe Nintendo will later release a "Pro" version of the dock that can boost CPU and GPU so that they can go for 1080p 60 fps for all Switch games? Then they'd just need to do a firmware update on the system and software.

  • @RallyDon82
    @RallyDon82 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    dock is just a hunk of plastic should have a hard drive in it for transfer of data back and forth if your switch's built in storage gets filled up and you need to make room for some new downloads for example.

    • @Larry98
      @Larry98 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This would kill the mobile part of the system, because you couldn't play games on the go when it is on the hard drive + it can break the hard drive when you remove the switch out of the dock when a game is currently loaded from the harddrive.

    I have not followed the Switch very closely but i was sure the dock had extra "power". At least a better GPU to help with big screens. But it looks like it is only a HDMI adapter.

    • @christinacumba787
      @christinacumba787 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was never brought up by Nintendo. At no point did they say the dock contained anything that would provide the console with a push. Everything points to this console being a hand held that you can output to the television.

    • @MacoveiVlad
      @MacoveiVlad 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That does not mean i didn't think it was so. :)
      I guess i presumed it had to have a way to reach the same performance level as the PS4 and Xbox One. But it seems they never intended that and probably never said it would compete with those.
      Anyway, i never follow consoles very close as the PC is clearly the cheapest way "to game". The only console i ever considered buying was the Wii.

    That circuit board had better have some premium metals in it to justify why the dock is 90% plastic and still like $80.
    Nintendo looks to profit by high mark-ups on their accessories more than premium-quality. Still, I'm not hugely disappointed in the Switch. This is basically what I expected from the start. Hopefully the next model will be even better as well as better priced.

      Interesting! Let's do a analytical exercise. First it's $300. Second let's compare it with similar products on he market and use their price as reference
      1: The dock:$45 USB-C hub, $10 decent HDMI cable, $30 for 39w power adapter, $5 for the dock itself: Tot:90$
      2, Controller: Let's take a xbox one controller $50 (although this controller is less complex and much longer on the market)
      So far we have total of $140, $160 remaining for the tablet itself: This is more difficult, there is not really a product on the market to compare with. Performance wise we have to go for a tablet that easily cost $600 or more. Ok it has a smaller screen + lower resolution. Let's take an average of $340. Total: $160+$340=$500
      Conclusion: You get the typical game console discount of $200. That you happily will compensate every time you buy game.

    Great video.
    I have two switch. The "good" ones manufactured before Middle of 2018.
    I do not intend to buy another video console. The switch is perfect and will suit all my needs that I would like to be able to conserve it and use it the next 15-20 years or even longer ;-)
    One I play the most time in dock mode. The other I play the most time only in portable mode.
    But in general I do not find plenty of time in playing video games.
    So I do not use it.
    After a couple of weeks the accumulator is totally empty and it needs time to be able to start. There is no hardware fault.
    Question 1 What is the best frequency to charge the accumulator for a switch used the most time in dock mode?
    Q2 What is the best frequency to charge the accumulator for a switch used the most time in portable mode?
    Q3 How full should the battery be charged before it is going into "hibernation"
    Q4 I do not assume that Nintendo planned that uses will play in 10 years with their switch. Do you see a risk of fire if the accumulator is too old and it should be changed after some years?
    Q5 Do you have other good hints how to conserve a switch?
    Thank you for your time. I guess the answer to this questions might be useful for other users too.

    The screen on ours stopped working on handheld mode without provocation (didn't drop it). Console still works docked and sounds/touchscreen still work undocked... just no picture. Backlighting, but just a gray screen. Do you think this could be a software issue that Nintendo could fix remotely or is it only a possible hardware issue? I'd rather try to fix a hardware issue myself before Nintendo taking a month + (to probably send me a new console anyway and lose my save data).

    • @Larry98
      @Larry98 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why do you need that? This would break the mobility of the nintendo switch, because some games only would work with the dock then. And you get a boost when you play on a TV because the console not have to save battery like in handheld mode.

    • @NhoyBarangay
      @NhoyBarangay 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would sacrifice mobility than seeing games jitter on this. Would have been a great option if the Switch has more hardware resource on the dock.

    • @WithADashOfBran
      @WithADashOfBran 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nhoy Barangay It would no longer need the switch,breaking the concept of a hybrid,so the dock would no longer need the switch.So basically they would be selling two different systems.
