One of things I like most about your videos, is you don't use ridiculous statements. You never say 'this is gross' or any crap like that. You simply say 'this is clogged'; 'she's been well used'. Never the provocative. Just straight info it without the TH-cam-viewer click bullshit. You see the issue and correct, without the drama. I love that.
When your woking on a battery if you take a business card and pop it between the contacts you cant allow to touch then fold it over the thicker card makes it safer to work and can take the odd scrape here and there preventing sparks. It's cheap and to hand often enough to keep a couple to use. To clean the contacts I use a 180g or 240g sandind disc pulled through will clean and sand, use one way round then the other. Abrasive removes burning and oxidation, the soft side absors oils and grime.
As a retired tool repair tech, I love watching you. One thing if I may, when I was in the biz every repair went out cleaned as best as possible making the customer feel he was getting more than his money's worth from my shop.
that air compressor had me rolling not going to lie, something i would do for sure , on a side note im of to hit all my tools with my air gun dust and grim build up its a running factor in these uploads cheers from Aus.
I just discovered this channel, and man, it's like you have the best dream job ever! I love these videos. I want to learn everything about these machines. I'm increasing my vocabulary today, and I need to see every video now. Thank you for not skipping steps or cutting too much. I really feel like I'm absorbing great knowledge. Thank you very much!
Take the time to blow out your tools after every job. Even cheap crap will last a very long time. Bauer orbital sander I bought for under 20$ is on its 6th year of semi heavy use. Its a great lil' tool
Well I have to say your alright repairman. I have fixed things off and on for years and more of a backyard repairman. Nice to see someone that is willing to show how to do these things. Plus I like you don't waste a huge amount of time scrubbing the outside for nothing. Better to clean and fix the inside where it counts.
Just a tip for the compressor: turn the switch off whenever it has not done it's full cycle of getting back up to pressure. Switching it off will make sure the air will be released from the motor, else it might not start the next time someone plugs it in due to the resistance the air in the piston house is generating. Another common fault with these is the thermal safety went off and customers thinking the compressor is dead when it's just a simple fix of re-enabling the thermal switch. Great repairathon again, enjoyed the Dewalt bearrings replacement at the end a lot.
Tools fixed in this video: 0:01 Makita 9911 Belt Sander | Fault: Running, but belt is not spinning. 6:46 SIP Airmate Cirrus 36050 Compressor | Fault: Doesnt switch on. 9:40 Makita TW1000 Impact Wrench | Fault: Sparking like its a 90's Rave party. 13:18 Revo Magnetic Drill | Fault: Doesnt stay powered on. 18:24 DeWalt DCS391 Circular Saw | Fault: Damaged guard due to fall. 24:11 DeWalt DCMST561 Trimmer | Fault: Runs for few minutes then stops. 35:23 Strata Drywall Sander | Fault: Switch not working. 44:33 Bosch AHS48-16 Hedge Trimmer | Fault: Damaged lead. 52:50 Makita DHR202 SDS Drill | Fault: Squaling when pulling the trigger. 1:01:13 Makita DGA467 Grinder | Fault: Running for a second and stop. *Bonus: Dean trying to set fire to the workshop with a 18V Battery fix* 😅 1:09:40 Bosch GWS 18V-Li Grinder | Fault: Doesnt start. 1:13:39 DeWalt DCG405 Grinder | Fault: Sounding wrong when running.
Very good video, that was my first look at a one inch nut driver... All the repairs were awesome. Great to see the second hand switch and the saw guard from your stash being used to get these machines running.
I can recommend using a fibre glass pen for cleaning things like battery contacts from corrosion. It leaves the surface with a high polish finish. The only issue with fibre glass is it leaves fine strands that break off as you clean. Just need to be careful not to get the strands stuck in your skin.
I was near buying that DeWalt trimmer, good idea hinged split shaft. Got Mikita DUR 191 U handle split shaft trimmer, it came with shoulder strap , no need for it, the tool weights near nothing.
Dean, hello from the US. I love the videos! You've inspired me to purchase and fix a few Ryobi tools myself. Over here, a "big box store" sell exclusively light green Ryobi tools. I haven't seen you work on any of those. Are they available in Ireland? Rusty.
The black and decker drill i just overhauled field failed the exact same way ,i cleaned it up and araldited the magnets back in place .i used slivers of wood to hold them apart and the magnets themselves held them in place .Obviously its how they were originally made its still running 25 years later .
I have a similar bosch hedge trimmer but it came with a less than 10cm long cable from factory, that way you cut the extension cord instead of the cable on the machine.
Cool videos. Very interest and fast repairng, informatve, thank you. I see that tools looks like works many years and breakdown looks easy. But I use my instrument very accuracy))) not long, just for hobbie - and my breakdowns are not reapaired))) Need to replace everything, more easy buy new. How it happens?))) Main problem that I often give my instruments to my friends and can't refuse, this is my main mistake - never give your instrument. One day I gave an expencive Makita edge router to brother of my wife on one week. I'm used it only for finish wood working. After that with my friend we spent a full day for repair it... It was like a new before, after that I got back just trash. How? One week... I'm didn't know, but he cut plaster panels and try to make a smooth straight angles or something like that, of course without any protection. Gypsum for any instrument like hell. It's just like plasticine and clogs all empty spaces, after that motor works very bad, the cooling radiators not works, also all instrument just white everywhere and no way to wash it off, so.. moreover, he lost some complectation from box)))) how?
Tool health is like humans. Treat them nicely and they last well. Mistreat them and they will have a short life. A few will randomly fail. Keep up your videos.
Always check your blade guard and dont take that yoke for granted, I had a near one when I dropped a saw and did damage to the guard, the guard cracked on the swivel point aka the circle around the arbour, It created a few mill movment on it, enough that it hit the blade on a cut and exploded sending shrapnel at my face.. I got a cut under the right eye.. I wore glasses from that day on when using a circ saw..
The achilies heal of electric strimmers is wet grass and even Dewey grass... This is I would imagine the number 1 killer of them.. Run all day in dry stuff, but as soon as you attempt to use one in damp stuff the grass packs up quickly around the guard housing and blocks the motor vents.. You get a matt of soggy grass and within minutes the motors are red hot.. One of mine had to be stopped and cleaned every 10 minutes, this was one with the motor in the head, same as this... She would get hot to the touch and when id open her up, clogged with grass in the vent and intakes.. If your going to use it in even damp stuff, stop every 10 mins and brush it off or blow it out with a compressor, otherwise it will have a short life.. There all the same in the damp or wet stuff.. Ive had 3 now and all were terrible in the damp..
I worked in a garage after school 52+ years ago and the compressor was left empty with the drain left open overnight. As a result I do the same with my one. Makes what the inside of the tank looks like. 🤔
What I always find interesting on these older brushed Makita SDS Drills is that they use the exact same gearbox as the corded HR2470 sds drill. Probably same internals too apart from the gear ratio and the piston probably.
They can be on air compressors as easy a fix as the overload little button on motor popping out due to it thinking it has done enough work for a bit . . bought an excellent still have it decades later Ingersoll Rand comp that kept triggering the circuit breakers . . the fix was simply an smaller drive belt pulley on the motor
On the dewalt string trimmer I bought a lot of tools that came with 10 or or more of this trimmers that the motor only sound like it wanted to start but didn't, and took them all to a dewalt service center and repairedthem all under warranty and I own older models a 20v and a 60v and are like 4 or 5 years old and still working perfectly not sure if is a design falt on this particular model, on my other ones I don't use them daily maybe ones a week or every 2 weeks but I also got some Milwaukees m18 with the same issue and have a similar design and also got repaired under warranty

The affixed cord is intentionally made so short you can't even get it near the trimming blades. You have to regularly use a separate extension cord, it hooks into the grip of the trimmer for strain relief. So if you cut into the cable, you just have to change / fix the extension cord and do not need to mess with taking apart the tool itself. Of course, you are advised to use at least an IP44 rated extension when working outside and/or in potentially wet environments. That dewalt grinder was a bit of a faff ! You can get this in uk for around £120 - was it worth fixing for this price ? seems a lot of labour time, and not a job i would fancy doing at home .
Hi Dean been watching your videos a while hoping you would talk out the clutch on a 8406 makita. Mine does not have the bite it used to! Can they be stripped and rebuilt? Many thanks Ian
Dean have you repaired an AEG 56v battery? I have an 8 ah one that is just out of warranty and they would not replace. Only 12 month warranty.. I had to buy a replacement but will open the old one up and check the individual cells. Ithe battery level lights constantly flashes and will not charge.
You might've answered this before, but how do you usually come across secondhand parts? Just from tools that people leave and dont pay for the repair or something?
i have seen multiple bosch tools being used by repairmen, whats the catch? are they that superior? i have only used one of each kind of tool so cant compare.
With stator for the Makita rotary hammer drill, is it not possible to "glue" the magnets back into place? It's just a curiosity question. Thanks to anyone who can answer. 👍
They would have to be glued into a precise location and angle. To do it right you would need a new field anyway for reference. And if you placed them wrong you would end up burning out the armature also.
As far as I can remember, he said they only do it locally. And previous users are right, the import/export between EU and non-EU would cost import taxes possibly.
A good chunk of the cordless tools dean repairs would be around that price. If it wasn't worth fixing for the money dean wouldn't have repaired it at least not without speaking with the customer first.
@@Vanman_fr I beg to differ,me ol fruit! I consider grinders, like drills, more or less a consumable item for the cost.I would have binned it.Other tools maybe, but not these.
@animal79thecat you'd be surprised how often they can be repaired for very cheap. It is well worth replacing a housing, baring, chuck, or you may need to clean out a trigger. Or even if it costs 50 or 60 bucks it's still worth to me because that's one less tool going to the landfill.
Hi dean you any good with coffee machines Melitta aroma fresh my mate decided to clean it and basically fuxxxx it up it has an automatic grinder cut off in case of foreign beans or other objects everything works but it only grinds for a few seconds and stops any help appreciated I know it not your field but maybe someone else can guide me?

Funny that an air compressor not leaking air is so uncommon that it's reason enough to bring it in for repair 😂

Where I used to work they had a magnetic drill almost like that one but you could not start it without it being on a steel plate !
The 60v attachment capable dewalt string trimmer is 400x better, you can run like 40 different attachments, 4x the power and the motor is up top so it doesnt eat itself
The Bosch hedge trimmer with the long cord seems a little bit strange to me. All of the corded trimmers I have seen in the last 40 years in Continental Europe - be it cheap or expensive - only come with a very short pigtail cord and some cable hook / strain relief cutout in the grip part.
Is there maybe some regulation involved you aren't allowed to do that with british type plugs / extensions or are they just too bulky to be practical?
I wish you nice holidays

They have to be glued onto the exact same position. Incorrect placement would mean the motor would be under extra load.

The DeWalt trimmer must be the worst design ever. Who comes up with airvents above the cutting head of a machine which only produces dust, dirt and cuttings. Just blows my mind.
Worst part is that It's actually a pretty common design. Trimmers with the motor up on the power head are much better.
Every brand with the motor down will have the same issue eventually. The cheaper versions are usually made that way.
😱
The cheap strimmers are all done this way. Just seems like this Dewalt is extra easy to clog up from the design of it.
I like the way you fix broken tools using second hand parts from other broken tools. Very reasonable. 58:30 Sorry for the dumb question, Dean and everyone, but what would be the issue with simply gluing the magnets back into place in the housing?
They would have to be glued into a precise location and angle. To do it right you would need a new field anyway for reference. And if you placed them wrong you would end up burning out the armature also.
@@deandohertygreaser Thank you!
hi dean do you accept tools from the main land uk?
Wouldn't shipping costs each way make the repair financially not viable?
@@josephking6515There’d possibly be Brexit shenanigans as well. Though maybe no custom charges on repairs….mmmm, never thought about that one
As far as I can remember, he said they only do it locally. And previous users are right, the import/export between EU and non-EU would cost import taxes possibly.
im afraid not, im only doing local repairs here for customers
1:12:45 How did you know the controller was faulty and not the motor?
That DCG405 grinder should have been sold spares repairs on ebay, and the dude shudda bought a new one. They only just over £100 new!
@@animal79thecat well you do you but I view that as incredibly Wasteful.
@@Vanman_fr Whats wasteful about it? They are beyond economical repair.Whats wasted is your time and money repairing these tools.
@animal79thecat you'd be surprised how often they can be repaired for very cheap. It is well worth replacing a housing, baring, chuck, or you may need to clean out a trigger. Or even if it costs 50 or 60 bucks it's still worth to me because that's one less tool going to the landfill.
Never heard of “Makia” tools.
Tada 🎉
no sound Dean! can you reupload?
Turn off mute on your device.
sound works for me
Give it time to upload
Let it load jackass
How does he know that all machines are female ?
Странно, но на моей углошлифовальной машинке Dewalt никогда небыло резинового маленького кольца, интересно почему
Did you guys checked the internet by typing "Melitta [your model] not grinding beans". There should be some sort of posts about it.
@@michaelfairchild will try that but just thought I’d ask the guru first he is the genius after all
