Repairing another load of Makita, Bosch and Milwaukee power tools.

  • Another lump of broken tools in for repair, the 2 routers and sander are from the same customer here is the rest are from different people.
    Not ofter i get these Makita Routers in for repair, normaly they are a good reliable router. One I would recomend myself. But this customer must be working them hard, to have one burnt out already.
    The BO4900 sander is only a small repair, and im not suprized, its a lovely machine to use and a powerful and reliable tool. I have 5 Makita sanders myself and the BO4900 is the one I prefer to use.
    The makita DHS680 Cordless saw turned out be cutting cement boards, so no wonder the guard was in such a bad state.
    The Bosch GSH11E hammer was from 2006 and had seen quite a lot of work. This was a risky repair to keep going with and could well have resulted in a compleat waste of time. Luckily this time it worked out in the end. But I tell anyone from experieance, if you want to get into tool repairs, you will encounter quite a few boarder line tools like this. You could play it safe a not repair them, but then you turing away work. Sadly you have to waste some time and money on tools like this to learn.
    Finaly the Milwaukee grinder, iv sad it before, if milwaukee would only fit a quality bearing to these ginders, they would have the best cordless grinder on the market. But of course they dont, they cheap out on the no name china brands and save themselfs a few cents, while costing you extra money.
    These tools are clearly capable of work, but it is this cheap bearing that lets them down every time. And its not just the size of the the bearing, as even the cheaper makita dga452 uses a 605 bearing. Only differnece is makita use a NSK bearing.

    2 exactly the same Makita routers with both motor problems, I think this man needs to start taking shallower cuts and more passes when cutting worktop mitres 😂

    • @connahjones8178
      @connahjones8178 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Its a 2 inch long bit, that means f it and use it all right?

    • @markmawson1
      @markmawson1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@connahjones8178 just because it's 2" doesn't mean you have to use it all at the same time, I do fit worktops and your really meant to take a first cut then use a jigsaw to remove the bulk of the cut then go back in with the bit and then hog off the rest of the material in subsequent passes then do a finish pass with the full depth of the router bit, that's why it has a full length cutting edge otherwise you have that much deflection in the cutter the finish won't be a smooth one.

    Dean when you get one of those broken impact bits to remove, all you have to do is remove the tool holder to expose the ball holes, block one of them up and using the airline blower inject air into the other hole. Pop.

    • @angusmacphail4135
      @angusmacphail4135 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yea or if you don't have access to compressed air. You can fill up the hole with grease block one side, get a hole punch, and tap the other side. Pressurising the grease will also pop the bit out. Quick and dirty field fix! Assuming you have some grease handy?😅

    I always deconstruct those Makita bitholders from the start since that metal ball is holding the broken bit in place, then spray a bit of WD40 in the head an then hit it. Most of the times makes the bit come out just enough to not having to use a grinder. And thanks for the UK/Ireland socket explanation, makes sense now to always have an earth plug even on double isolated machines

    After reading your video description Dean, I cant believe a big company like TTI®️ is willing to save $.05¢ on a bearing like that. They're buying 100 thousands+ of these little sealed bearings so it adds up, but come on, really! They're shooting themselves in the foot in the long run cause in the end they'll pay for it to be fixed(under warranty) or potentially lose a customer to a better grinder brand - Bosch, Metabo, etc. I knew there was a(nother) reason(among many) I dont like Milwaukee tools(&TTI in general)! I know Dewalt isn't the very best tool in everything, but overall i think they are the better choice for me & I've never had a problem in 25+ years. I got my first Dewalt 9.6v NiCd cordless drill when i was like 19. Other than a few tools (Bosch grinder, PorterCable TigerSaw & circular saw), I have all Dewalt brand tools, and Bostich nail guns. I think after the *real* SawZall, & HoleShooter w\ metal gear cases, the 'old' Mlwaukee brand has fallen down after moving ownership to China. Just my opinion & $.02¢ worth....👍🏻💪🏻👌🏻🛠️🔧🔩📏📐📐🦺🚜⚠️🚧😎🤷🏻‍♂️🤔🤦🏻‍♂️😆🍻

    For the 44:00 repair, i have a trick. Whenever we broke a bit inside that kind of holder i took a small drillbit and drilled a hole in it, couple of mm deep will be good enough, then I use a tapping bit to grab onto the metal, pull back the holder and simply pull it out, no need to dismantle

    To replace rubber fittings for holding the stator in place, perhaps you can use a bit of hot glue instead. I found hot glue is a good approach in such applications, it is similar to a hard rubber and sticks really well when applied.

    To my knowledge, case hardening is done by heating a low carbon steel cherry red in a high carbon atmosphere for some time. The carbon permeates the steel so that it can be hardened.
    It's hard to say without having the part in my hand, but it looks like this bearing surface was not hardened but chrome plated and ground. You _could_ lathe down the diameter and sleeve the armature.It's probably not worth all that work on an old machine like this, but it could be done.

  • @enzoperruccio
    @enzoperruccio 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    If you really wanted to, you could probably get that first Bosch armature turned at a machine shop so that the new style sleeve could fit on it.

    You should have painted or dipped all the ends that are butted together into some type of wood protection.several dips and dry outs.the tops and undersides you can do later.the cut ends of wood will wick up all the water and rot it away.lt happens .

  • @TheDarkKl342
    @TheDarkKl342 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Perhaps someone already asked this, but why don't you use automatic wire strippers and a dedicated ferrule crimping tool(like the one you have for spade connectors)?
    Feel like it's up to personal preference, but when i switched to an automatic stripper from a manual like the one you use, it felt soooo much better
    For working in tight spaces there are pistol-shaped ones with a long nose so you can work on short leads, or generic ones with long handles
    Or perhaps it's just me, because i'm more of an electrician and an electronics DIYer type, and having to strip dozens upon dozens of cables with manual pliers feels like torture
    Awesome video to watch during breakfast, as always

    I have a 2004 Makita 3621c router that I absolutely love! But whenever I start it, it gives me electric shock's through the handl grips. I live on a Scottish island, so I have no access to a repair shop such as yourself. without the additional costs of shipping a return journey on top of the cost of repair. Would you be able to tell me if this is a terminal problem with no fix? Or is there something I could try to fix it? I would dearly love to bring it back from the dead, as it has served me well. I did actually buy the exact same model second hand of eBay because I knew it was a sturdy work horse. But it would be good to have them both going! Loving you content, can't believe I've only came across your channel about a month ago. 👍

      im not sure, havent come across that one before.
      The handle only has a switch inside it. Unless a wire has been pinched or worn against the handle screw holding it on.
      The machine is double insulated to dose not have an earth lead. only other thing i can think of is wire inside the the main body shorted out somewhere.

      When I say electric shocks, I'm not talking about a full 240v dunt! I am meaning like more of a constant static buzz thru the handle. It actually took me a while to determine what was happening at first. But quite worrying. Hi Dean, you probably won't respond but here goes nothing. I have that exact Makita circular saw. The guy I bought it from had used it for one project, barely used. Tested that it spun when I bought it and took it home. Left it for a few months, first time I had a use for it the motor wouldn't turn. Almost like a stuck blade. Issue persisted even with the blade removed. I've opened it up and can't see anything particularly wrong.
    It drains a battery with record speed when you try to engage it, the light works it just doesn't do anything. I don't know of anyone in Denmark who has a service like yours but maybe you have an off-the-cuff idea for what could be wrong? I hate throwing out stuff that could be of service.

      @@deandohertygreaser . It is called a friction ring because with out it the sanding pad would spin at the RPM of the motor without randomness . it provides just enough Friction to stop it from spinning wildly . I know this because I picked one up second hand and could not figure out why it was spinning so fast someone had removed the Friction ring .Very much enjoying your videos nice to watch someone that knows what they are doing .

      They came from a local shirt manufacture called Moville clothing. These are all the off cuts from cutting out the shirts. nice soft brushed cotton. Sadly closed down last year, so these are the last of them.
