Just in case anyone else is curious, I did a little digging on these guys, and found some info. They were a D.C.-area band, active in the mid 60’s, that later morphed into The Collection, and after that into Graffiti. As The Hangmen, they issued 3 different singles, this one being the first. This song is the B-side. It was very popular locally. Reportedly, at one point in 1965 this single was the number one most requested on local D.C. rock and roll radio stations, incurring even more requests than the Beatles at the time. Whether it was this song or the A-side (“What a Girl Can’t Do”) is unclear. They also issued a lone full length LP in 1967 called “Bitter Sweet”, also on the Monument label. From there, the trail goes cold. If anyone else has more info on these guys, please feel free to add to this in a reply.

What a perfect song from the 60s. The song transports me back to the 60s and how much I enjoyed that time period. The songs,my friends,my parents,my sister and brother.
[Verse 1] Well, I had a dream last night And you seemed ever so near I dreamt that I was holding you tight And whispering sweet things in your ear [Pre-Chorus] But now the night is through And I find myself still thinking of you [Verse 2] It was a vision of your loveliness Of your sweet face and wondering eyes You'll never come back to me I guess But my dreams keep telling me lies [Chorus] Now when the night is day and you're the girl who faded away [Bridge] My love for you is so real Aah But you'll never know the way that I feel Aa-ah [Guitar Solo] [Bridge] My love for you is so real Aah But you'll never know the way that I feel Aa-ah [Chorus] Well, the night is day and you're the girl who faded away I said the night is day and you're the girl who faded away You know the night is day and you're the girl who faded away
Sometimes I have to step back and think about how weird the modern world is. I am listening to a song that was released 51 years ago. Everyone involved in its production is either really old now or dead. But here I am, 51 years later, listening to the exact same recording that someone could have listened to in 1965. The singer sounds just like he did 51 years ago, and in 100 years he'll sound exactly the same way he sounds today. The world got really strange, really fast.
I get you. This song kind of facilitates that type of thinking. Its unusually haunting and very hard to believe its the B side to one of their other songs. I think most of us all share one of those girls that we really liked and somehow lost touch with them. The story that could have been I guess. As our lives continue pulling us all into different directions, we lose touch with people, meet new people, and never realize how easy it is to lose contact with those special people.
I’m 16 and I’ve loved this song since I was 10 when I found it. This is my favorite song and I’ve never met anyone my age who has ever heard of it, that’s kinda crazy to me.

Awoke from a dream about a girl I was good friends with some years ago. I messaged her but the response was cold and to a now stranger. In my dream, she looks like now, and she was picking some things up around the house. We looked out of a window and she hugged me from behind and kissed my back. I turned around and couldn't wait to kiss her. She smiled and knew I couldn't wait for this first kiss. Then I hear a baby crying. And I awake. This has been reoccurring over the past 5 years with her. She truly is the girl who faded away. Every time.

[Verse 1]
Well, I had a dream last night
And you seemed ever so near
I dreamt that I was holding you tight
And whispering sweet things in your ear
[Pre-Chorus]
But now the night is through
And I find myself still thinking of you
[Verse 2]
It was a vision of your loveliness
Of your sweet face and wondering eyes
You'll never come back to me I guess
But my dreams keep telling me lies
[Chorus]
Now when the night is day and you're the girl who faded away
[Bridge]
My love for you is so real
Aah
But you'll never know the way that I feel
Aa-ah
[Guitar Solo]
[Bridge]
My love for you is so real
Aah
But you'll never know the way that I feel
Aa-ah
[Chorus]
Well, the night is day and you're the girl who faded away
I said the night is day and you're the girl who faded away
You know the night is day and you're the girl who faded away
Thank you so much
