This is the best video that explains how to not bounce at the canter that I’ve seen! I ride western but it’s the same thing! Thank you! Keep those videos coming.
SAME! I try to scoop, but my body isn't familiar with the motion yet and it just doesn't know how to move, I am all over the place! I am making the right motion, but it's out of sync, is how it feels- Maybe my shoulders aren't back enough, I struggle with that on a good day- I am going to watch this so many times, haha- My instructor also had me try it in half seat, (I am between instructors, mine just retired and this lady I am working with now is AMAZING, but is more hunter/jumper, I want to focus more on dressage, although eventually I want to give it all a try, so I can be as well rounded a horseperson as possible!) and my normally pretty steady at trot (sitting and posting- I have been told my sitting trot is pretty good, so I don't understand why this is so hard!) lower legs went ALL OVER THE PLACE, what might cause that, just my balance? I thought I had my balance pretty well established but I guess not, haha! I really wish I could practice more, and do more lunge work- but AH! my old instructor is coming back to help out in September, she can lunge me, just remembered that ... Anyway! I did struggle massively with sitting trot until one day I did just FEEL it, and there it was ever after- so maybe all I really need is more time in the saddle! Just wish that wasn't so expensive, haha! Excellent explanation and examples, thank you!
I’m just learning to canter now. I was just starting to get the “scooping” motion in my lesson the other day and am looking forward to practicing more next week. The first attempt was a bit scary as I felt like I was going to bounce right out of the saddle. Second go was much better. Hopefully third time better still. Thank you for this great video.
ive been cantering for a couple years now but i really want to improve it i sometimes bounce and want to change that and this video has helped loads!!!!!
looking forward to try this, I have been trying to sit still and just bouncing and feeling like im going to fall off and it has been uncomfortable. I will try this instead, hoping it works. you explained very well
Could you please do a video or add to this video a part where you show us what you do with your hips in or when you’re cantering but on the ground maybe in a profile view. I feel like there’s so many different ways to move hips or etc. and I need to visually see the movement to better understand just how the spook or whether I need to move more or less, etc.
Hey! After some advice, I've gone from a 14.3hh coblett to a 16.3hh well schooled school master, he's got massive strides and I have lack of core muscle. Please tell me how on earth I sit to it 🙈 if I pull on the reins he tends to throw his head down and pull me out the saddle too. X
Honestly you need to strengthen your body up too !!! To develop an independent seat you must be strong enough through your core . Have a look at some Pilates videos on TH-cam ! Pilates is the only reason I can sit quiet to my big moving lad as I’m strong enough to do so 🥰🥰 have a go !!! Just a couple exercises a day will help ! Xxx
@@ZaraMuradDressage Thank you so much, I will definitely take a look at pilates, never even thought about something like that. It probably doesn't help that I had been out of saddle having kids for 5 years prior to getting back on board too! I've enjoyed watching your videos :) xx
Thanks that makes perfect sense scoop!! With the left leg as it comes back to scoop. Well, to tell you the truth , now I see why us girls like riding lol!! 🎉
Hi! Thanks for the video! I've noticed that your inside knee is not attached to saddle when you're cantering, while the outside knee doesn't move away from the saddle. Is it ok? The reason I'm asking is because I'm cantering in the exactly same way. I was told that bit of my knees should be attached to the saddle so that if there are 2 banknotes between the knee and the saddle, it should stay there and do not fall. Could you please comment on this?
Thank you! I am learning to canter and this should help, I probably have another lesson tomorrow so I will edit this after that lesson! Edit: sorry I forgot to edit this, it definitely helped me!
I am learning how to canter and I’ve cantered 3 times and every time one mistake has happened. The first time I lost my stirrup and almost fell second time I fell off third time I fell forwan on my horses neck. I still feel guilty for falling on the horses neck😢
i try this but when i do my hips move really weirdly and not in the saddle at all 😫 how can you like, properly sit in the saddle while also scooping your hips??
I got hurt cantering yesterday, not my back buy my ribs on my back and my sides. Today im totally fine? Does anyone have a clue how this could've happened? My position isn't right yet since I'm back to riding after years
Okay, so if you are not riding with a neutral spine (flat back) the pressure can end up hitting that part of your spine and causing discomfort. When you get on try tucking your tail bone under a little , this will give you a flatter back and then the pressure can travel with out discomfort :D Pilates would help a lot also as the more you engage the core, the more it will take the work load !
@@ZaraMuradDressage I was just about to say start doing Pilates!!! I grew up riding unsupervised and old school western. I am super twisted from always mounting on the left. I won’t get on my horses now without doing Pilates to warm me up and even out the twist. Pilates and certain hip opening yoga routines...Rodney Yee Gaiam. But start at beginner stuff so you do it right! Growing up riding wrong impaired my abilities as an adult. It’s easier to learn it right the first time than retrain your brain. Sorry for my life story hope it helps!!!
Damn I really whish id seen this I had 2 mins of experience in a canter first month and today I tried going for a canter again I accidently started a gallop was bouncing like it was a trampoline my right leg fell out from its place and my body was leaving so hard to the left if my couch didn't tell thr horse to stop ur hoi woulda had his first fall
Good video, but I notice your left leg is turned out and causing your spur to continuously poke the side of your horse at canter. Was that your intent? Why not try pointing your toes towards the horse's shoulder thus making sure the spur doesn't inadvertently poke the horse's side.
I was really hoping this wasn't going to be a another scoop scoop scoop video. That's not very helpful for a rider with no talent like me. I've tried it and I end up leaning too far back trying to scoop. I like the way you ride canter; I would just describe it differently. Your upper body actually comes forward a bit when the front of the horse comes up. So it's like you're moving to meet him. Then when you sit back up straight -- that's the so-called scoop. I have not tried consciously doing this yet, but for sure I'm trying to blast the scoop image out of my head! It's obviously helpful for many people, because so many people describe it that way. Just not for me. In this Mary Wanless video she talks about people being taught to polish the saddle with their bum (that is, scooping); her demonstration of people trying to do that is me to a T. And the person riding canter looks great, same as you. It's just described differently. th-cam.com/video/Ise87B1eA9g/w-d-xo.html

Aww so kind!!! Glad you enjoyed it xx
My brain tells me “I get it”, but my body still couldn’t do it correctly 😩
honestly just keep practicing !!! One day you will get the feel and you will never forget it again :) xxx

Same but I don’t own a horse I can only ride my lesson horse once a week and almost forget everything everytime I go back to the stables
Same and it’s really bringing me down I just wish my body would do what I need it too 😢
Today was my first canter!! I had seen your video a few time before today.. it was soo helpful and I went scoop scoop scoop.. !!
Ahhh ! Very well done 🥰🥰 so glad it helped you xxx
I got my first canter a few days ago and was bouncing A LOT. This makes way more sense so thank you!
Thank you so much! My coach tried to teach me this for years and I’m finally a horse rider! All thanks to you❤

This helps a lot! The horse I ride has a VERY bouncy winter canter and it’s so difficult to not bounce
I’ve been riding a new horse with a bouncy canter, this helps so much!
Watching these videos helps my butt stay less sore 😫
just learing the canter right now and this is such a huge help. Honestly it is the best video where I can easily understand
My horse has a really bouncy canter it’s basically impossible to sit it lol but this helped thank you!

That's really helpful thank you!!!!!!!! (Slightly distracted by what a beautiful horse you have haha)

Which front leg - inside or outside?

best advise! x
Does wearing a body protector affect the hips?
I don’t think so
what exercisen can i do at home to stabilize myself. my legs are not stable while cantering and i am bouncing a bit
Wait are you not supposed to use your knees to bounce up in rhythm?
Good
Thank you so much for this video. But I have to say either you are Tiny or he is massive 😂
I will have you know both are correct 😂😂 I am 5ft tall and he is 17.3!!!

That's a pretty horse, a Selle Francais?
does it work has anybody got these tips to work
My horse at my riding school has the craziest canter so i cant do that or i will fall offfff ☹️
as i was watching this i was practicing in the chair i was sitting in
Do the same rules apply when you ride western
Yes !! The movement are the same so give it a go ! Xxx

Why does my horse rush onto the camter
