Love the vid! I have the same axe along with a couple Gransfors & other larger ones for splitting. The Bushman has become my go-to axe for kindling, smaller stuff & general use. I do like the slight bearded blade for a close handgrip but find it's not the most refined bevel for finer work, but it can still do it. This is such a lovely axe…mind had some issues with the edge rolling off in the first couple weeks & I can assure that no rock or metal was hit. Apparently there had been some issues with the heat treating. I contacted Wetterlings online and they replaced it with no grief or guff, just high integrity...See you down the trail!
Great review, not sure a cheaper axe wouldn't also last a lifetime. I have my Dad's axe, one he 'acquired" when he parted from the army in 1946. It doesn't even have a name stamped on it . It's known as Dad's axe. I guess now it is Great Grandpa's axe as well. In Canada the average price carton of cigarettes is over $85 a carton. Gas is $4 a gallon so really for the price of a tank of gas for the old 1/2 ton or a carton and a 1/2 of cigarettes you have something that will by yours and his for a century. That's a bargain!!

She'd brought a few to the show and I had her pick one out for me and even got a little discount for helping her carrying them from her car. :) She was very proud of the design and talked a lot about the development process behind the axe. Very cool person who is actually a blacksmith and an excellent small company making high quality tools by hand. I've used my axe extensively and am very satisfied. I'm pretty sure it will outlast me as well. Just a tip though, put some linseed oil on that handle. Cheers from Sweden!

However, I have to subscribe for multiple reasons: 1) the beard (obviously. haha) 2) axe technique 3) Philosophy - similar to mine, the investment is more than worth it just for the heirloom it will become; a $20 coleman axe just doesn't have that same value and richness in 15 years! had mine for a week.Looks great! BUT1*The edge rolls easily and you lose your edge. 2*The round handle as opposed to the traditional flat oval near the head allows it to wobble around in my hand, as opposed to the traditional that allows a much more stable grip.3*The knob at the end is too small!! In all my 50 odd years of swinging all sorts of axes this is the first time an axe just slips right out of my bare hand on the preparatory backswing!!!Either I need to get used to it or it is not as perfect as you say.Right now it feels like you say " A perfect little axe for a little boy to play with" As opposed to an efficient tool for a man.That's 3 stars or 3 strikes.... depending on how you look at it...Would love to hold a " FINE FOREST AXE" in my hand to compare the 2!!!

My wetterlings axe only last about 1 month before the head fell off. I was very disappointed. Never again will k buy a wetterlings. There are mug better out there.

Drop your knees when you split. Minimizes the chance of a glancing axe hitting you in the leg and gives you more downward force.
