Thanks for the videos, great job. I am going to have to do this very soon I'm sure. Just trying to get my other car rebuilt before this one leaves me needing a tow. She's way too sexy to give up on and I don't mind getting dirty. 176,000 on my 03
this gives me terrible ideas for a 4wd 540i touring...not sure if a 6 speed would be possible without a lot more custom work though just looking at it. great job once again Danny.
Yeah, not sure how well it would work with a 6-speed, considering it attaches to the back of the transmission. I've never seen an X5 6-speed with 4WD either. I know you could probably make the transfer case fit if you kept the auto box though.
That doesn't look like a bad job at all. With my Jeep I had to access the top bolts using an unwieldy combination of u-joints and extensions from the front, fed over the top of the transmission.
Hey, i have the same prob as you with your front axle shaft, my splines are dead. So whats happend with your one, whren u exchanged the new front drive shaft? The x5 still works? Thx for help....or maybe the transcase is dead?
Hi Danny, thanks for the great work. Would you consider changing the valve stem seals for the same vehicle? We would love it? Another series with valve stem seal...
Nice work Danny. I have one question if you can help me out? I have BMW 740il and changed both camshaft position sensor and but Bank2 driver side error is keep coming? Please let me know. Thanks
It literally stopped moving because front driveshaft was rattling around loosely due to the messed up splines on the transfer case front output shaft. It's a common issue with these early X5's- the stock driveshaft is too short so it eventually pops out and wears down the splines until it starts to slip and grind. I was driving it one night and then it just started grinding like crazy.
It's been sitting since early February, so that's like... 4 months. I think that still qualifies as a "couple months," no? In any case, I'm getting it done at an excellent pace. The next video will be out on Wednesday ;)
I'm not too worried about that. The dirt actually helps protect the paint after a certain point, and I had a layer of Ammo Skin along with Ammo Spit on the paint before I parked it, so the paint underneath should be fine. I'm washing it tonight so we'll see how it looks.

Hoping this is the same problem as mine goes in gear okay I just won’t drive forward or backwards but seems to be working gearbox
Have you finished the project?

If I had to remove the transmission it would have been just as bad. Thankfully the transfer case bolts were a little easier to deal with.

Sounds like your chain guides might be bad... that's when you start seeing the P0011/P0021 codes typically.
@@DannysGarage I am getting INPA error number 114 Camshaft Sensor Bank 2. Thanks
what symptoms did you have the made you do this

@@DannysGarage Why you didn't try the 1 inch extra long driveshaft ? instead of removing the transfer case .

Yes, but a couple of months in the AZ sun covered in bird crap is not doing the paint any favors...
