When the native language is taught as a foreign language...

    • @jordikeoni
      @jordikeoni 5 ปีที่แล้ว +113

In Hawai'i, 'ōlelo Hawai'i (Hawaiian language) is not taught as a foreign langauge, it is taught as a language. Not foreign by all means. Spanish, French, German, etc. are taught as foreign languages. If you live in Hawai'i, went to school here, you'd know this. 'Ōlelo Hawai'i is a co-official language in Hawai'i, alongside English.

I've been reading a lot of comments and it seems like people are uneducated on the topic and not getting the message. The Hawaiian queen was overthrown and killed in her own home and the Hawaiian language was banned for about 60 years. This killed most of the culture and there's no justice for it. The best things Hawaiians can do is to preserve their own culture and not have the government get involved anymore. Are Hawaiians saying they want to break off with America? of course not! (also, yes Hawaii is apart of a America. No, the volcano does not disrupt the peace and no, Hawaiians don't even care about it. They already know) I'm saying comments that are like "stupid Hawaiians" "so they hate white people huh" "the Hawaiians are greedy", Which none of this is true. Please try to look at it from both a Hawaiian person's perspective and a white American citizen's perspective before making any judgements!

The Hawaiian Kingdom enacted an education policy that highly favored English before the overthrow of the monarchy in 1893. King Kamehameha IV stated in His Majesty's Speech at the Opening of the Legislature (1855):
"To foster education and widen every channel that leads to knowledge, is one of our most imperative duties... It is of the highest importance, in my opinion, that education in the English language should become more general, for it is my firm conviction that unless my subjects become educated in this tongue, their hope of intellectual progress, and of meeting the foreigners on terms of equality, is a vain one."
King Kamehameha IV stated in His Majesty's Speech at the Opening of the Legislature (1856) that he was satisfied with the Board of Education's progress on English instruction
"It is particularly gratifying to know that instruction in the English language is prosecuted with so much success among my native subjects. I recommend you to make as liberal a provision for the support of this class of schools as the state of my Treasury will admit."
And this *Hawaiian Kingdom Policy* was very successful in adopting the English language as the main language of education and instruction.

@James F honestly I wish America could pull out and become an isolationist nation again, I’m sick of people like you and the rest of the world joining into the I hate America circle jerk.
If the US troops currently deployed around the world were all brought home, several things would start happening:
Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, ISIL, and few other countries would start expanding their borders at the expense
      of their neighbors.
Aggressive countries whose military strength might decline over time with the loss of supply and maintenance might attack a weaker neighbor because they have to “use or lose” their military equipment anyway.
Traditional US allies will feel betrayed by the USA and will scramble to form some type of regional alliance among themselves to try to prevent more powerful militaristic neighbors from taking advantage of the vacuum. They will be hesitant of fulfilling their treaty or contractual obligations with the USA and will never sign a treaty with it ever again.
US businesses and companies will be subject to an anger backlash against the US government and will be overcharged and overtaxed by many countries all over the world if they try to set up businesses outside of the USA.
Americans anywhere in the world will be subject to criminal attack of various kinds and will be forced to retreat to the USA for their personal safety. Many of them won’t make it back home. Any Americans who might want to travel abroad will no longer want to do so.
There will be a surge in violence between aggressive neighboring countries because there won’t be a stronger military around to tell them to talk instead of fight.
The global shipment of petroleum and natural gas by sea, as well as passenger cruise ships will diminish and shipping insurance will skyrocket in price as local pirate fleets start preying on their ships.
The global shipment of parts and components for computers, electronic devices, modern appliances will diminish or permanently decline as these become subject to piracy and seizures by local navies that want to apply a higher tariff on them. The global economy will start to unravel.
The flow of food and manufactured goods will continue but at a more expensive rate as every shipping company will try to arm its merchant ships or will hire small navies to try to shepherd them through dangerous waters.
The global flow of cash and international funds as we currently know it will also diminish or end because these will be subject to interception, embargo, or capture by local governments that will be emboldened by the absence of a strong global police force to make sure they will follow the rules.
The USA will lose customers for its biggest products: software, entertainment media, movies, TV series, music, books, etc., because the poorer nations will not be able to afford them anymore and would rather spend their limited cash on survival-oriented purchases.
There will be an immediate scramble by rich people from various countries to smuggle themselves into the USA to avoid being kidnapped or hostaged by criminal gangs and local warlords in their home countries. Many of them won’t make it to safety.
Many liberals and pro-Communist socialists will initially rejoice that the USA has retreated from the world but will eventually wish for the good old days when it hadn’t done so.

They had a fat lady in a pretty Hawaiian dress come in every week to teach "Hawaiiana" which is about the history of Hawaii and also Hawaiian songs. My first field trip was to a pineapple farm, and I also went on field trips to Waiamea Falls, Honolulu Zoo and a Pearl Harbor memorial and a natural history museum where I learned about volcanoes. I got to do a Polynesian style petroglyph as an art project. My teachers were Japanese so I learned a lot about Japan as well. @@sunnysied713 That is some BS your pulling man. What you just wrote is beyond inaccurate. Queen Liliuokalani wanted to create a new constitution to replace the "Bayonet" Constitution that had stripped the authority and powers of the monarchy years before. This constitution she was drafting was infact legal, having no laws broken from it. She wanted to remove the authority of the Reform party, a group of sugar businessmen and foreigners who are against the Monarchy and Hawaiian traditions and conditions. They were the very same ones that had forced the previous monarch, King Kalakaua , to sign that very same constitution, gaining them more power while diminishing the powers of the people and monarchy. These men had wanted to gain power to make their decisions of this like trade, especially with the US to gain more profits. When they heard of the Queen's plans of a new constitution, they would enact the overthrow that occured. Queen Liliuokalani never used military force at all, she had to abdicate peacefully due to being surrounded by US marines called upon by these Sugar businessmen. The Hawaiian People were in support of her the and monarchy and wanted to defend it but the Queen wanted no violence and bloodshed in either side. The only accurate thing you put here is that she instigated her own overthrow, but not for the reason you put. She had no idea of the inevitable overthrow that was being planned behind her back. She would draft this new Constitution believing it will return the authority back to the monarchy and the rights back to the hawaiian people. These businessmen had wanted to overthrow her when she was making this new constitution. They worried that this new document will diminish their profits and power they had gained from the previous constitution, so they would secretly form their plot of taking over the kingdom. They had ties to the US and had help from US officials to take down the queen when the overthrow happened. These men then made their provisional government and claimed they were the official government, declaring the Kingdom of Hawaii to be over. This government supported Annexation by the US even through their government was not legitimate. Queen Liluokalani tried her damn best to get her kingdom back through diplomacy, not violence... But the businessmen's desire of profits and the US's desire of expansion prevailed over Liluokalani's objections. This led to the US to annexing Hawaii. Honestly, I don't give a damn if you don't care, but spreading lies about history, any history in general is just plain dumb and stupid!

      @sunnysied713 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@darkapollo3463 The revolution of January 17, 1893 was caused by Queen Liliuokalani's attempt to prorogate the legislature, unilaterally create a new constitution (without the constitutional power to do so), promulgate this new constitution with a sudden declaration (surprise!) and use the military to suppress any opposition to her power grab. On January 14, she was ready to sign and proclaim the new laws. She wrote to Blount that the "members of the diplomatic corps had been invited; also the members of the supreme bench and members of the legislature, besides a committee of the Hui Kalaiaina." She also told Blount that she instructed her guards and military to be ready to suppress any challenge (riots, rebellion, etc) from her opposition: "They assured me they would be ready, and I gave strict injunctions of secrecy." The Queen had been secretly plotting a revolution to overthrow the government and reestablish an absolute monarchy.
Then everyone found about her 'secret' plan. Everything went downhill fast for her. People weren't going to curtsy, sit idly and let her smile and wave as she led a revolution. Her opposition mobilized, organized and overthrew her with their own revolution. And the rest is history.
Like I said, Queen Lili instigated her own overthrow, despite the advice of her own cabinet and supporters. She was an inexperienced, naive leader who thought she could make sweeping (illegal) changes via royal proclamation. Governor Cleghorn was a royalist, ally and _brother-in-law_ of Queen Liliuokalani. He was angry and disappointed by her plot to overthrow the government and failure to listen to counsel. On January 28, 1893, he wrote "I have never given the Queen anything but good advice. If she had followed my advice, she would have been firm on the throne, and Hawaiian Independence safe, but she has turned out a very stubborn woman and was not satisfied to Reign but wished to Rule." Queen Lili kicked a hornets nest and was stung by her own arrogance. She cost the country its independence.
American Minister Stevens was following the instructions of his predecessor, Minister Miller, who received instructions from the Secretary of State of the first _President Cleveland_ Administration. Cleveland was president during the Bayonet Constitution of 1887. Secretary of State Thomas F. Bayard sent written instructions to then American Minister George W. Merrill that if another revolution happens in Hawaii, then they must protect American commerce, lives and property. Bayard clearly stated that, "the assistance of the officers of our Government vessels, if found necessary, will therefore be promptly afforded to promote the reign of law and respect for orderly government in Hawaii."After the revolution that lead to the Bayonet Constitution, _British_ Minister Wodehouse requested that the Americans keep a warship docked in Hawaiian port in case another revolution happened. In July 1889, there was a rebellion and Merrill ordered the deployment of marines and sailors to protect Americans. John L. Stevens (had replaced Merrill) and followed those official instructions during the overthrow of 1893.
The American soldiers were peacekeepers who didn't participate in any government building raids, patrol the streets, fire any shots or provide any material support to the insurgents. Often, the Americans would land, come ashore and practice military drills (prior to the overthrow). During the 1893 revolution, the soldiers marched past Iolani Palace, lowered their flags to show neutrality and saluted the Queen. These are hardly aggressive actions. The Americans then remained in their bunkers and did absolutely nothing because no violence broke out against American interests. There was no invasion or military occupation. The monarchy was overthrown by a homegrown coup of 1,100-1,600 insurgents (who were citizens and royal subjects), Queen Liliuokalani surrendered and abdicated her power WITHOUT fighting to defend her country from internal, domestic threats, which was her constitutional duty as a monarch.
Kamehameha V overthrew the government in 1864. He prorogated the legislature, abrogated the 1852 Constitution, unilaterally created his own constitution and strengthened his autocratic powers (removed checks and balances, weakened power sharing and strengthened the king to be more like an absolute monarch), which was unconstitutional and illegal. Sound familiar? Queen Lili'uokalani tried to do the same thing. First, she tried to ammend the existing 1887 Constitution, but she repeatedly failed. Her supporters wanted her to do the same as Kamehameha V and just 'proclaim' a new constitution. She drafted the Constitution of 1893, but her Ministers wouldn't sign it because it was illegal and would cause civil unrest (i.e. riots and/or rebellion). Some of her ministers informed her political opponents about her scheme... and the rest is history. The Queen never submitted her Constitution for approval by the Legislature. She just wanted to proclaim the old one was dead and HER new one was the new law of the land, which was very illegal. It was a reckless power grab that cost her the throne.
King Kalākaua wasn't physically forced to sign the 1887 Constitution. His political enemies _threatened_ to overthrow him if he didn't make political concessions. His political opponents didn't storm Palace 'Iolani and force him to sign a new constitution. Kalākaua had a weak government. He couldn't defend against their intimidation tactics. Instead of directly dealing with his problem via political negotiation/compromise, police response or military action, he asked his international allies (United States, Great Britain, France, Japan, and Portugal) to help him, but they advised that he agree to the terms set by the Hawaiian League. He capitulated. No one physically put a gun to his head or bayonet to his throat. He conceded in order to save his throne. He didn't assert his authority and defend his government. Kalākaua was already a timid ruler and acted like a figurehead before the _Revolution of 1887_ even happened. Historically, there have been many civil/uncivil protests/riots/rebellions/revolutions that have changed politics, policy and government. The Right to Revolution goes all the way back to John Locke and even earlier. By its nature, every revolution is 'illegal' from the perspective of the side who lost.

@@darkapollo3463 *Lili'uokalani's Power Grab* The Queen's draft of the 1893 Constitution had the following:
      - _Members of the privy council, notary public, and agents would be able to run for the legislature._ This was political double-dipping. For example, the Privy Council consisted of the King's cabinet ministers, who were politically aligned with the King. Queen Lili'uokalani wanted to allow her cabinet ministers to also be able to serve in the Legislature, which increases her political power. Also, it's fundamentally wrong to allow one person to serve in both the executive and legislative branches.
      - _The Queen would be given the power to call meetings of the legislature._ Queen Lili'uokalani tried to increase power for the sovereign (herself).
      - _The Queen’s private lands and other property were made inviolable._ The Kamehameha dynasty ended with Kamehameha V. Kalākaua and Lili'uokalani were no longer sovereigns with inviolable land and property.
      - _The Queen would sign all bills before they became law._ The 1887 constitution allowed the Legislature to repass bills with a two-thirds majority and overcome a sovereign's vetoe. Kalākua's reign was considered corrupt. The Legislative branch was given stronger, conditional approval authority.
      - _Nobles would be appointed by the Queen instead of elected._ Obviously, this gives more power to the sovereign because Lili'uokalani can appoint noblemen (instead of a more democratic election). The people would concede more power to the sovereign.
      - _American and European residents, granted suffrage in 1887, would lose the right to vote._ Voting rights would be taken away from a large demographic group. By 1893, the demographics of Hawai'i were roughly 1/3rd kanaka, 1/3rd westerners and 1/3rd asian.
      - _The Queen would be able to appoint governors of each island for four years._ More power for the sovereign.
      - _Article 78 of the 1887 Constitution which required the monarch to perform "with the advice and consent of the Cabinet" was left out._ This removed legislative checks-and-balances over the executive branch.

How did the United States 'conquer', 'steal' or 'colonize' Hawai'i? Kamehameha waged a 20 year war campaign with 12,000 warriors and 1,000 war canoes to conquer all the island chiefdoms. He STOLE all the āina, mana and wealth for his _Kingdom_ of *Hawai'i.* He was a warlord and imperialist. His aumakua was the god of war, Kū. And wage war he did. There's a very good reason why the island chain is called _Hawai'i_ and the Big Island is also called _Hawai'i._ The PROC used major military force to conquer Tibet. There were over 3,000 Tibetans killed, wounded and captured. Another 200,000 - 1,000,000 Tibetans died during the _Great Leap Forward,_ which caused the worst famine in human history. That's a real invasion, war and conquest. Can you name any major battles or wars between the United States and Hawaiian Kingdom? No, I don't think so. The U.S. did nothing like Kamehameha or the People's Republic of China when it annexed Hawai'i.

    Are we sure??
Hawaii-a U.S. territory since 1898-became the 50th state in August, 1959, following a referendum in Hawaii in which more than 93% of the voters approved the proposition that the territory should be admitted as a state.
There were many Hawaiian petitions for statehood during the first half of the 20th century.
The voters wished to participate directly in electing their own governor and to have a full voice in national debates and elections that affected their lives. The voters also felt that statehood was warranted because they had demonstrated their loyalty-no matter what their ethnic background-to the U.S. to the fullest extent during World War II.
In retrospect, perhaps, the genuinely interesting question about Hawaii’s becoming a state is why it took so long-60 years from the time that it became a U.S. possession. There were many Hawaiian petitions for statehood during the first half of the 20th century. These were denied or ignored. Some in the U.S. had been convinced, even at the time of Hawaii’s annexation, that Hawaii had no natural connection to the rest of the states. It was not contiguous territory, most obviously, but 2,000 miles from the coast.
In retrospect, perhaps, the genuinely interesting question about Hawaii’s becoming a state is why it took so long.
Hawaii’s annexation in 1898 had much to do with the power of American plantation owners on the islands and the protection of their financial interests-both in gaining exemption from import taxes for the sugar they shipped to the U.S. and in protecting their holdings from possible confiscation or nationalization under a revived Hawaiian monarchy. There was considerable sentiment in the U.S. that annexation would be an unjust, imperialistic, and therefore un-American, move (Hawaii had more than sugar; it was a potential harbor and coaling station for naval vessels and was historically pressured in the 18th and 19th centuries for concessions by countries including Great Britain, Japan, and Russia).
Nevertheless, at the time of annexation the monarchy itself had only been in existence for a century, and originally consolidated power brutally, with the help of European sailors and firepower. Even by the end of the 19th century, a significant portion of the Caucasian residents of Hawaii had been born and raised there and considered themselves natives. Complicating the question was a large population of immigrant Japanese, Chinese, and Portuguese, all of whom had been originally encouraged to come in order to supply agricultural labor to the islands.
At the time of the vote, 90% of the population of Hawaii consisted of U.S. citizens.
Part of the decades-long reluctance to change Hawaii’s status from territory to state derived, both in Hawaii and on the mainland, from uncertainty and fear about granting electoral power to one ethnic group or another. This was not just Caucasian vs. ethnically Polynesian. Some ethnically Polynesian Hawaiians opposed the change from territory to state because, while they had come to feel comfortably “American,” they feared that the Japanese population on Hawaii (perhaps as high as 30%) would, under a universal franchise authorized by statehood, organize and vote itself into power to the disadvantage of the Hawaiians of Polynesian descent.
At the time of the vote, 90% of the population of Hawaii consisted of U.S. citizens. Hawaii’s importance in World War II had secured its identity as fully American in the minds of both Hawaiians and mainlanders. In addition, persistent and effective lobbying of Congressional representatives during this initial period of the modern Civil Rights Movement convinced enough members of Congress that this was the right moment to accept Hawaiian statehood, no matter what its racial makeup was.
Hawaiians themselves had been awaiting this for years, so much so that the “49th State” Record Label had been selling popular Hawaiian music since shortly after the War. As it turned out, Alaska entered as a state at the very beginning of 1959, making it the 49th, and when Hawaii came in several months later, it became the 50th state of the Union.

The UN ruled that a vote must be brought to the Hawaiian people to decide if they wanted to remain a territory, become a state OR leave the union and reform their own government. That last option was left off the ballot. It’s not hard to see that if the only options were remain a territory or become a state that the vote would go incredibly towards statehood: it’s as simple as a representation issue. If you’re going to be living under US law, you should be able to have a say in the national discourse. This was not a choice to become American, it was the better of two evils. Therefore your point about the 90% figure doesn’t hold merit.
Not only did the annexation violate international law, it went against the MAJORITY of native Hawaiians (about 2/3 of kanaka maoli) personally signed a petition against the annexation.
No one can argue with the facts and that this takeover was wrong on so many levels (you even mention this)
I know that sovereignty would not make everyone happy; that is simply impossible for such a deep-rooted problem. But it is the United States’ responsibility to right the wrongs of history and give justice to Hawaiians.

      - Japan shows aggression through Naval patrols around Hawai’i and diplomatic trickery
      - The Hawai’ian Royalty allows the U.S. navy to be stationed in Honolulu and the U.S. sends warships to the islands to ward off the Japanese
      - The Japanese either leave and a War never happens, or they destroy all the U.S. and Hawai’ian ships stationed in Honolulu like our own timeline starting WWII in the Pacific

      @sunnysied713 ปีที่แล้ว

You got it all wrong. Hawai'i was never a U.S. colony.
Did Kamehameha conquer and unify the islands on his own? No, he needed great help from westerners (British and Americans).
Did the United States or Great Britain declare or claim Hawai'i as a colony? No.
Did kanaka, westerners and asians build the country together? Yes, every step of the way.
Were the westerners and asians denizens, citizens and royal subjects of Hawai'i? Yes.
Did the westerners and asians live, work, pay taxes and support the Hawaiian Kingdom? Yes, the haole had a long history with Hawai'i from 1778 through 1893.
Was the Hawaiian Kingdom a multiethnic, multicultural and multinational society? Yes.
Did the Hawaiian Kingdom requested protectorate status or annexation from other countries? Yes. King Kamehameha wanted to make Hawai'i a British protectorate. King Kamehameha III requested annexation by the United States. King Kalākaua wanted to become a Japanese protectorate.
Did the United States 'steal' Hawai'i? No, the U.S. declined an annexation request in 1851 and 1893. The Republic of Hawaii requested annexation in 1898 (five years after the monarchy's overthrow) and the U.S. accepted.
If the U.S. were greedy, landgrabbing colonialists, then why didn't they grab Hawai'i sooner? They weren't.
Did the United States overthrow the Monarchy? No, the Morgan Report exonerated the U.S. soldiers and agents of any involvement in the Revolution of 1893. I suggest you look at the Committee of Safety and the Honolulu Rifles. There were 1,100 - 1,600 angry hawaiians who overthrew Queen Lili'uokalani after she attempted an illegal and unconstitutional power grab. Some Hawaiians wanted to maintain the monarchy, some wanted a republic and some wanted annexation.
Was Hawai'i an American colony? No, it was a country that got annexed by the U.S. after the Revolution of 1893 led to the creation of a provisional government and later the Republic of Hawaii. The rebels had control of the government and requested annexation.
Did some colonists object to secession from the British Empire? Yes. Did some Texans object to annexation? Yes. Did some Californians object annexation? Yes. Did some kanaka object to Kamehameha's conquest of Hawai'i? Yes. Does it matter? No, the government decides what happens with the territory. There's no requirement for public referendum or plebiscite.
Did 93% of Hawaiian voters choose statehood? Yes.
Did the hawaiians receive all the same rights as Americans? Yes. The Organic Act of 1900 gave Hawaiians U.S. citizenship and the Statehood Act of 1959 gave them representation in Congress and the right to vote in federal elections.
      See, it's not a colony ;)

As deplorable as the actions of the US were in the overthrow of the Hawaiian government and the subsequent annexation of Hawaii, the suggestion that Hawaii is not now legally part of the US is rather silly. The Constitution does not fully specify how lands are acquired and brought to statehood (if the are). The raw imperialism that took Hawaii also took Texas, present day Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and California; also Puerto Rico and Guam. Congress ultimately passed bills or treaties for all these acquisitions, and it must not be forgotten that the cession of lands in the southwest to the US by Mexico, although paid for with a nominal sum, was done by a treaty signed at the point of guns following the defeat of Mexico’s army by the US army, navy, and marines; and that the acquisition of Puerto Rico and Guam (and formerly the Philippines) was likewise achieved by a treat with Spain signed at gunpoint after the overwhelming victories of US naval and ground forces against those of Spain.
The “rules” were just different then, and while we don’t admire that type of behavior by nations now, it isn’t possible to change history (or even to stop the Russians from continuing such behavior today, as in Crimea and Georgia, and Ukraine.

You live a comfortable life that is safe, much safer than you would have in most Muslim countries, and ladened with opportunity and material wealth, and you equivocate your situation to those of dispossessed Hawaiians? By the way, in a Hawaiian state run by Hawaiian (if we follow what most defend), you won't have the same rights that you might "enjoy" in America due to your non-Hawaiian blood. The annexation in 1893 was a coup and was unfair to the Hawaiian people that almost disappeared, everyone agrees with it, the solution to this injustice hasn't been found yet. At least by the majority.

  • @ItsAlohaMonday
    @ItsAlohaMonday 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Disclaimer: Not ALL Hawaiians believe in these extremes. As a Hawaiian myself, I think that cultural preservation, language and sustainability practices should countinue to be strived for - but I don't agree that Hawaii should cede from the United States. Many of us are proud to be Americans and we love our country. Just like all the other rich cultures and people groups in the United States who offer their unique culture expression, the Hawaiian culture offers that unique expression that truly embodies its people. With that being said, yes, it was wrong how the government manipulated the situation and took Hawaii illegally - but that doesn't mean that that's on America - that, was strictly on a few corrupt and extremely "bad" actors who were greedy and selfish and took advantage of a people who were humble and open. This is not indicative of our country as a whole and how Hawaii has benefitted from America. Ironically, many of the "pilauticians" in Hawaii who make this a talking point in their elections would not be able to run for office in the first place if Hawaii wasn't a part of the United States. There are many Hawaiians who LOVE their country and who adopt the concepts of American liberties and freedoms and integrate them into their way of life. I certainly would hope that more documentarists like AJ+ be more balanced in their research and get an accurate account of where native Hawaiians are on the issues of culture and government. I say all of this to say that in no way shape or form is this a criticism of those who want complete sovereignty - there are just Hawaiians that think differently. That should be ok, right?

The revolution of January 17, 1893 was caused by Queen Liliuokalani's attempt to prorogate the legislature, unilaterally create a new constitution (without the constitutional power to do so), promulgate this new constitution with a sudden declaration (surprise!) and use the military to suppress any opposition to her power grab.
Governor Cleghorn was a royalis, ally and _brother-in-law_ of Queen Liliuokalani.

I am so happy to see this. Hawaiians need to take their islands back. We lived their in the early 70's it was beautiful. Even at that time it was so sad to see what was happening. I hope and pray they win it all back every single island. 🙏

If the united stated left Hawaii, China would take over in a matter of weeks if not days. Hawaii is such a strategic spot in the pacific. It would be foolish to not think of that possibility.

I actually fell off my chair laughing at this. Is this performance art? Hawaii is a State with full rights as any other State. These people also represent .05% fraction of the population

fool...ingorant fool. if it wasn't for those .5% we wouldn't be able to teach hawaiian again, we wouldn't be allowed to teach the truth of these islands, we wouldn't be allowed to practice our culture, our REAL CULTURE. we only had the rights as true kanaka maoli after the apology resolution, 100 years after we were surpressed by US proponents and the US itself
