Hi, I believe draw shots are more influenced by the tip material than by the carbon shaft. I was surprised to see almost zero deflection with the carbon shaft. I'm a novice but a shaft that would let me use side english without compensation would be nice. This video has given me one more reason to upgrade my equipment. Now if I only had a more consistent stroke I'd be plunking down my cash.
Imo , subconscience adjustments for deflection is a huge factor in comparisons like this . No matter what combination of equipment , the mind adjusts ... Regardless if going thru every school or never going to 1 . If you play enough and can keep concentration enough to really care , you will get zeroed in with whatever equipment you use . Using the same stuff and a confidence inspiring tip is the most important .
at 1:40 he lined up the short with more left english and an open bridge, then followed through the shot straighter. on the second shot at 2:26 he put less english, a closed bridge and a more swiping stroke. That's why the change in direction. they need to be shot again with the same strokes.
I have shot with both . I found the pro shaft to be on par with the cynergy 12.5 or maybe lower in cueball deflection. Off course different cue butts , tips, weight etc can change the results. But in my opinion the pro shaft is one of the best shafts I've ever played with. Lots of feel , not too stiff and lots of power with little effort.
Material can make a big difference, however... Don't forget about grip and striking through the cue ball folks, staying down on your shot helps as well.

I can put a good tip on an ash dowl rod from Ace hardware and draw the cue just as well as shown here. The shaft can be a differance in energy delivered, but it's the tip that actually causes spin on the que ball, more than the cue stick used.
If you keep your extension on the cue,you will be able to pot straight shots more often because your cue will push through the ball more and it is great for tall people like you so i suggest keeping that extension on your cue and i suggest getting a cuetec break cue
Wooden shafts are just as good as those overpriced carbon fiber shafts. Only difference is they might last longer other than that if your a good player you can play with anything
Jason Steger I can agree to this somewhat. Predators low deflection wooden shafts are actually more accurate and less deflection than the cuetec cynergy. Look up dr Dave’s video about it. However, the predator revo is way better than any wooden shaft. Lasts a lifetime, and has virtually no deflection whatsoever.
I have a John Morra Falcon Limited Edition #2 of 50 cue and the falcon shaft was actually just a basic maple shaft but I had a house professional put the shaft on a lathe and bring the taper down and it now plays better than any predator or name brand shaft I've played with and the funny thing is it cost only 40.00 to bring the taper down. Most of these big name shafts costs 100's of dollars but it just goes to show you that you can buy a lower end shaft and have the taper brought down to play as good or even better than one you buy for 100's of dollars. The cue I have is a 1500.00 cue that I was given but again the shaft itself started out just as a basic falcon maple shaft
Tommy Vu But no deflection whatsoever is a bad thing, no? Many pros say that they can’t use the revo as some shots are now straight up impossible without cue ball deflection (masse, etc)
Plz Itz Just Mah Cheezits I play w a revo shaft. I can tell you that I can masse with it just as good as any cue. Many pros don’t like the revo purely because of the fact that they’re so used to aiming w low deflection wooden shafts. Just watch any Chinese Taipei player. They only use wooden shafts. But many pros also use revos. The lower deflection is easier imo because you can aim center ball for shots, but still apply the English you want without changing your aiming line.
I also have the SVB cue with both the 11.8 and 22.4 mm shafts! I prefer the 11.8 .. it’s easier for me shooting long draw shots .. you should check out the 11.8

I was looking for a comment like yours... No offense to the author, but I also see a lot of technical errors on the stroke. Jumping is one big flaw (I agree with you on the observation), and I am also missing a smooth acceleration of the cue through the ball. What I see is that he tries to gain cue speed at the very beginning of the stroke and the whole movement becomes a bit jerky. Without constant shot quality the comparison makes little sense...

I use a traditional hard rock maple cue for three reasons. First, it feels better -- more solid when striking the cue ball. Second, it has the same deflection as house cues so I can take a cue stick off the rack and it will play pretty much like my own cue. If you use a low-deflection cue of carbon fiber, fiberglass or wood sections, adjusting to a house cue will be much more difficult. Finally, if you want to play for money, people will not be willing to spot you as much or even play you if you have one of those evil-looking black cue sticks.
Your not staying down and really getting through the CB on your draw shot. Any hesitation or not fully completing the acceleration will hamper that draw.
All i know spin is all about what cue tip and chalk you will use its not about shaft, i can do a lot of spin in my fury shaft with kamui clear supersoft and kamui chalk 1.21

Well, with about 30 yrs of experience let me tell you 2 things: It was pretty obvious that you "tricked" the deflection effect when showing the difference. I do not mean that negative, but with the wood shaft you delivered a straight stroke, with the carbon, well - not that much ;-) The deflection is unimportant as long, as it is "your" shaft, you stick to it when you like it, me f.e., i do not like soft shafts, so guess what, i stick to a mezz hybrid pro f.e. since many many years. It is mostly marketing ;-) My high runs Straightpool 116, 8 Ball 6 games and 9 Ball 6 games, playing since about 1992. Kind regards

This is an old video but are you still using the Cynergy as your playing cue? How do you find it for developing a feel for shots, and how does it sound? I've got a Jacoby Black ordered with a Predator butt but I've been trying to decide if I should get the Cynergy instead. Did you change the tip yet?

Carbon fiber is horrible. It's a gimmick. They can produce carbon fiber shafts quickly. $15 of material for $500. Soft tips? Who plays with a soft tip?
My experience is that Carbon fiber shafts shoot straighter than wood. I.e. 314 vs Revo. I like the Kamori soft on CF and Kamori Med on 314. They absolutely shoot different. A pro can adapt to either. Definitely more flex in a wood shaft than carbon fiber.

Agreed, they were totally different in how they were shot. Also need to do this test at least 20 times in a row to get a fair comparrison.

I'm not big on the glare on the Cuetec CF shaft. My Meucci CF pro shaft plays really well

I agree. I sold my cf shaft and I play with a 314-2. Just as accurate but I just like wood better

The cynergy is a great shaft but the sniper tip sucks imo.
I completely agree. Shaft is actually really nice. I love mine, but I swapped that tip out right away. I didn't like it.
I agree.. I changed that (harder tip) with the Ultra Skin tip that I use on all the shooting cues

If you get a chance to shoot with a carbon fiber shaft you will probably love it. I have shot with cuetec & predator and i now own a cuetec

Old school wood shaft
When it comes to spin no cue can spin as much as a Meucci but you can't fucking make straight long shot with it.
The pro shaft has a lot more deflection than my wood shaft which is a lucasi custom slim which I think is hard to get but I love it

Your not getting enough stroke on your ball
Miscuing has more to do with the tip than the shaft, I think.
Did you notice how his body moved up while he was stroking? Thats why he misscued. I do the same error myself from time to time....
