If you're thinking of buying a carbon fiber shaft and have never owned one before this video is perfect for you.
I really don't think weighing and measuring a cue is the right way to give an honest opinion on a cue product. I approached this cue review differently. There's much talk about J Flowers Cues and their price compared to their quality. It's fair. Carbon fiber shafts for pool cues go anywhere between 700 and 1100 on average...sometimes more. That's why when J Flowers began producing full cues with a carbon fiber shaft for less than 400...players took notice. But is the hype justified?

What a great, honest review. I’ve played since the late 80s with traditional shafts but I so want to get into this Carbon Fiber shaft world. I know it’ll take lots of getting used to but I believe this will elevate my game to the next level. I’ve been eyeballing the JFlowers line for awhile now. The price is right and I’m getting one. Thanks again for this very helpful review! New subbie.

I can't tell you how many hundreds of hours I have spent watching cue/shaft reviews. "Dis guy" by far the best no BS review that I have seen. Real world examples of what we do night after night on the felt. I too think a JF cue is a great step, even though I have my eye on a new Meucci and play McDermott now. JF is a player to be reckoned with. Thanks for the review it was right on time and 1000% fact based.

And for the cf cue, i went back to my low deflection wood cue. I had no problems with the shots you did with a cf cue, it was the super touchy, slow and close shots i had a big problem with. Considering I play quite a few "touchy" shots, i had to go back.
@@guynicklin271 Gotcha. That's interesting. I'm curious what you mean by a super touchy close shot. Why did those shots screw with you with the carbon fiber? Was it the lack of swerve that you were expecting? Or was it the other way around?
I got my j Flowers cue last March. First cf shaft as well. It took some time to adjust and I really do like it. I tried an Ob cf shaft soon after and it didn’t have the hit the JF shaft did. I have a Meucci with a black dot shaft. I bought a mid-west technology cf shaft for it. It plays close to the JF. Let’s just say I’ll pick the JF cue first out of my bag. The JF break cue is no joke either. I believe in the brand. Your review was great. I appreciate your honesty. Because I was hoping for the best when it came from ups.
That's awesome. I'm really happy with it...besides the debacle with the Moori medium tip. So much so that I'm going to sell it and reinvest in a J Flowers cue that has the look I'm looking for. I'll have it in a week. Might do another video just showing it off👍😊

I love your review bro.. carbon fiber cue wasn't invented for nothing.. what i like most about that cue is its a carbon for only $300.. its a carbon cue that anybody can afford.. and upon watching ur review I can really tell the difference.. knowing ur using ur wooden shaft for 3 decades and it cant even match the new carbon cue.. great review and great product.. thank you for an affordable cue J Flowers it is something that every pool players can afford.

If you're on Facebook you can join the Alberta Billiards Facebook page. If there's any big tournament upcoming you'll see it announced in there for sure. About the Fargo thing... That's not a worry. I'd expect that if you enter with no rating they'll put you at a 550 and see where it goes from there. I've been told this because I stepped away from tournament play just before Fargo really took off. I joke about it with the guys who can't believe I don't have a Fargo rating😂😂. I'll come out of retirement soon. Just have one more kid to kick out of the house😂
I agree with the too much color point. The one thing I like most about the ball and cue pack offered as a combo when I purchased my table. The cues are simple and have a nice light stain that accentuate the wood grain.
A nice stain bringing out the wood is a very attractive cue for sure. I agree with you.
I shot with a 300$ Konllen carbon shaft for the first time yesterday. It's been 20 years since I played. Absolutely disappointed with my performance. Absolutely blown away by the performance of the cue. My game slowly came back after 4 hours of practice. Still a long way to go but really looking forward to getting my game back. I have a Helmstetter from the 90'S that I'm use too. The carbon hits so solid. It actually makes a completely different sound. The finish is so smooth. Much better than any wood. I set the weight to what I'm use to 19OZ. Pleasantly surprised for 300$

@@HereAfterBilliards that couldn't be more true. My goal was to run the table before I left. That wasn't possible 😭 very disappointed with my game after two days back. I love the game. I'm in for the long haul. Hopefully after a month my game resembles something close to my game in my 20s. I actually thought after a couple days I would be back. I did make some progress and that's about it. Take care
So a Konllen is the same as a JF cue? Please enlighten me guys.
Thanks for this review. If money's tight - JFLowers carbon shaft cues make a lot of sense. However you tend to get what you pay for. I have two 12.9mm Revo shafts. Great players can use any cue in any material. If you are an intermediate or better player you'll benefit from a CF shaft. CF cues are smooth and consistent from one day to the next. They don't ding or warp. Easy to clean. Did I say smooth? There are differences in brands. Experiment if you can before you buy. I have a JFlowers case. Thumbs up on that.

I agree with you on some of these JF cues being to busy. Would prefer the JF 20-20 cue with a black forearm, extended black leather wrap and brass rings. 😁

I play with the new JFlowers SMO now. Did a video of it a few weeks back. It's better than the classic shaft
I've played with a cynergy, Revo, Konellen (jflowers), and Rhino carbon fiber. Honestly, they are all good. Pool cue technology is getting to the point where it's just preference. No doubt, Predator Revo is a very good shaft. But even the jflowers standard is very well made. I haven't tried the SMO yet, because nobody I know has one. If I get another shaft, I'd probably get the SMO since it has the lowest deflection, but I have my doubts that it's that much better. For a cheap shaft, the Rhino is no joke.
The difference in vids 1 and 2 is the speed of cue ball after coming off the rail JF was faster speed. If you had a app on phone that showed the speed at which you hit the cue ball it would have made for a more precise measurment. Predator Speed app would be my suggestion. The 3d vid yielded different angles on the cue ball after rail hits which could have been because of the carbon shaft or not hitting in the same spot on the cue I can only hope that your stroke is spot on. Not to doubt your experience but I would have to see more testing with the carbon fibers. Thank you for your vids I have watched and included them in my shooting experience.

@@HereAfterBilliards you get more energy transfer with carbon fiber verses wood. I shoot with a j flowers cue. one of the things that's different is learning to dial back because it transfers energy so much more that a wood shaft. basically you can do more with less.
Not all Carbon Fiber shafts are equal or have the same Low Deflection properties. I know nothing about the deflection characteristics of the JFlowers, I have yet to get my hands on one to check it out. I make and repair cues and check out different shafts as I have them in for repair etc. I will simply talk about two I do know, Predator Revo and Jacoby Black. The Predator Revo, like all Predator Shafts, has a 19 inch pivot point and the Jacoby Black has roughly a 14 to 15 Inch pivot point. I also believe that the 19 inch pivot point is amazing for Parallel English but not the best for Back Hand English and the 14 Inch is not as low defection as the 19 inch but that actually makes it better for Back Hand English.
I just checked the pivot point of my old early nineties Heubler and found it to have a 14 to 15 inch pivot point. Since your Heubler is from the same era, I assume it is close to the same pivot point which has a lesser bridge length then any Predator shaft. If the JFlowers is closer to the Jacoby in pivot length, 14 to 15 inches as I suspect, this explains why you did not need any real amount of adjustments when using the JFlowers over the Heubler. I wonder how you would feel with a Predator Revo 19 inch pivot point. Remember I feel a Revo is only a Parallel English shaft due to its lengthy pivot point but this is not a negative comment, Predator wants this long pivot point so that it is so good for Parallel English. This long bridge length is why it is so bridge friendly, the long bridge is very friendly to bridge length when using Parallel English.
Back Hand English is very Bridge location dependent and the shorter bridge lengths makes it easier to bridge the right locations for Back Hand English. Something that is not well known about Back Hand English is how important the location of the bridge is. The most important part of learning BHE is how the bridge length will affect the cue ball path to the object ball. Distance of cue ball to object ball and power of shot are the criteria used to determine Bridge length. If the bridge is to short the cue ball tends to stay on the side of spin upon contact with the object ball shot center line and if the bridge is to long, the cue ball will cross to the far side of the shot center line. Without the knowledge of the cue's vibrational behavior and where to bridge so the deflection and swerve cancels out to return the cue ball to the center of the aim line upon contact with object ball, you are simply learning BHE the same as how we all learned Parrallel English, practice, practice, practice. I have marked my cue with colored dots that represent cue ball to object ball distances of "two and four diamonds hard speed, center and bottom spin", "two and four diamonds medium speed, center and bottom spin" and "two and four diamonds top spin". Still working on soft because soft can be lacking deflection at all which makes it difficult but since there is usually little distance involved it is not as important. Once you truly understand your cue, Pivot English allows for amazing cue ball control on any shot with unrivalled accuracy and English to control the cue balls destination for the next shot with an amazing amount of spin and control. Remember that long pivot point low deflection shafts such as Predator 19 inch Shafts are not the right shafts for Pivot English. They are excellent shafts for Parallel English just not for BHE. By the way I do not call it Back Hand English, since it may also involve Front Hand English at times, I call it Pivot English.

This is very interesting and thank you for the clarification at the end as I was a little confused. I'm going to go up in shaft thickness next. My Huebler was a 12.5mm. This J Flowers is an 11.8mm. My next shaft will be a 12.9mm. The journey continues 👍😂

My, I missed your videos.. If you like that cue, keep it and play with it. CF shafts are made to last longer than wood. They actually have more "bite" in them using off center hits whatever brand it is compared to wood (even hi-performance). There's a learning curve with those shafts. Me, took me 2 months to fully master and appreciate my Cynergy shaft. In between, I was tempted to go back to my old Vantage shaft. Trust me, you'll always be having over hitting your shots when you actually play. Only experience and dedication will teach you your adjustments. Well lucky for you, you have your own table so getting used to it will be cut short.

I bought the break/ jump cue totally satisfied as I was with the 320$ playing cue,value for money believe me.
I shot with carbon and it is very predictable. The only advantage I like with wood shaft over carbon is the feel. I feel more of the hit with wood over carbon.
Interesting. One thing that I feel more with a wood shaft are those slight masse shots that creep up from time to time when you over or under shoot your shape. 👍

The carbon shaft is more powerful than the older wood shaft. You can see it in the first drill. Consider with the same stroke with carbon you're easily scratching. The wood shaft creeps into shape short of the corner. To strike the object more easily is an advantage to gain shape.

Interesting but I don’t think these are the correct test that you should use to determine deflection or swerve if you hit any queue at a hard speed you’re only gonna get deflection the big difference in carbon fiber or low deflection shafts is not so much the deflection because deflection can be corrected by backhand English and draw can be corrected by putting the correct tip like a milk dud elk master tip always gave me a lot more spin than the High end layered tip . If you’re putting bottom left or middle you’re not going to get too much swerve it’s only when you were going to put top right or top left when you get the maximum out of cue ball swerve at low to medium speeds don’t get me wrong I play with a carbon fiber shaft it’s unbelievable the positive feature are so great just the fact that you can put it in your car and have humidity changes and it not affected. I’ve seen so many carbon fibers get knocked on the ground and not have any problems the days of wood shafts people would be freaking out when the shaft gets dinged up you’d be over a pressure cooker tried to steam the dent out of the wood shaft this is one of the greatest things I think is positive about carbon fiber. I will say when I started playing with the carbon shaft that I have I had not played for 2 1/2 years but I was getting so much action on the ball I actually went to more of a Center ball strike and drag strike it’s taking me about 2 1/2 months to start to feel comfortable with certain shots like top right top left when there’s a lot of swerve involved also play with an extension in between the shaft in the butt and then helps it play a little bit better or more like a wooden shaft with a little more weight towards the front of the queue if someone was just learning how to play I would say for 300 or $400 that you was probably as good as in the other queue out there put a good tip on there you’re probably going to have a great time with it. if you’re just playing and pool league once a week probably a wooden shaft would probably just be fine another issue I see with a lot of guys out there that buy these carbon fiber shaft is they never really get the opportunity to develop their strokes a lot of the queue does a lot of the work for them and they don’t really get the timing down so their consistency is not quite probably what they would want or at least what I would want.
Hey I wanted to say I really appreciate that Kicking video you put out I spent about a half a day working on it every since then I’ve kicked in so many balls kick safe so many times it was a really good system I can’t say I understand how it works but it works must do something with your brain to help you visualize the one real kick Whatever it does it works it would be great if they had something like that for two rail kicking system to where you didn’t have to do so much math or remember a bunch of stuff I appreciate your time and your videos do you have a blessed day
You bring up a lot of great points. Very in depth analysis of switching to a carbon fiber shaft. Top shelf comment. As for the kicking video it remains the one video people love. Your first test wasnt the same. If you look good. The ball gets further to the pocket then when you tested with your wooden cue

Nope. The Huebler had a Kamui Medium and the JFlowers came with a Moori medium. Both tips were probably playing harder than that rating IMO
you failed to mention some important facts - tip size - tip type, if you think they don't matter then up to you, in some ways the tip type and size are more important than anything elseyou mention in this video
