I love how different the dynamics went for everyone hanging out. Before, way in the beginning, it used to be Ruby trying to convince RWBY to do everything together as a group, and/or Jaune trying his hardest ro convince Weiss to go with him. Now, RWBY splits up their attention, and Weiss needs no convincing to hang out anywhere near Jaune. It's just a nice little thing I noticed.
So the file Clover pulled up on Tyrian actually had some backstory on the guy. You can check the full thing out if you want, though some of it is redacted, but here's the key points. *Mass murders all across Anima *Was brought down by a huntsmen named F. Pickerel (aka the frog to Tyrian's scorpion) *Mistral police planned to move him and Pickerel insisted on extra detail. No one listened and he was taken off the case. *Grimm attack despite early recon stating that there was little to no Grimm on their route resulting in the transport going down *Recordings after the crash caught the pilot asking "What are you? What are you?!" and Tyrian sobbing the word "Beautiful". Three guesses who they're talking to?
THIS IS THE ONE I WAS WAITING FOR!! I'm shocked to this day that when Ren and Nora kissed my neighbors didn't file a noise complaint for making so much noise at 10am on a Saturday because I WAS SCREAMING. SAME AS YOU, UP OFF THE COUCH, FIANCE LOOKING ON IN CONCERN So with Ren's semblance! No spoilers about the intricacies of his semblance but his current attitude is because of what it does NOW or more, what it's BEEN doing. It taught him from a very early age that he didn't HAVE to deal with big emotions, negative OR positive and now 10+ years later he is struggling to cope with ALL his OWN feelings, let alone everyone else's. So he's definitely due for semblance evolution and maybe also some damn therapy! However Nora Valkyrie found the off switch for all that for one glorious minute though and we thank her for her service. And also congratulate her. GROWING UP WITH THEM IS SO REAL! I started RWBY when I was a sophomore in college and now I'm like an actual adult with like a house and a dog and a fiance. It's been incredible to see how far everyone has come and I'm basically stuck with this show until the (hopefully not) bitter end But uhhh yeah now it's time to buckle lmao what else happened in these episodes I black out after Ren and Nora kiss, every time 🤣
One of my favorite little details in this episode is when they get Penny outside after the attack. Ruby reaches out to comfort Penny as she stands there distraught, but stops when she notices the blood (from when she tried to help Fiona) on her hands and looks at them in horror
May's semblance is Invisible Field (self explanatory), and Fiona's semblance is Pocket Dimensions, where she can store things on her palm and bring them back later on as she pleases. kinda op tbh
I try not to think too hard about the fact the trans girl's semblance is being able to make herself disappear....so many of their semblances seem to be based in trauma in some way....

I thought the same thing. Especially given the fact that Jinn doesn't really try to trick you. She isn't being purposely obtuse and literal with your wording. When Ruby asked what Oz was hiding, she could have said quite literally anything given how vague the question was but she showed them exactly what they needed to know. So yes, I don't think the problem is because he used the word "I", I think it's the entire concept of destroying or killing Salem that is moot.

I tear up a bit seeing how devastated Penny was at the end of Chapter 6. Everyone knew her as the The Protector of Mantle. A title, which she held with upmost regard and part of what gave her purpose, is now gone.
YEP, THE RENORA SHIP HAS FINALLY, OFFICIALLY, SAILED! The Renora kiss is a particular highlight for a lot of Renora shippers and just fans in general, all that time together on-screen has finally led up to this! Preceding that, we get the impression something is bothering Ren from that conversation he has with Nora, what it is will be elaborated on in the coming future. That scene where Penny is staring out at the city that now thinks of her as a murderer, someone who's supposed to protect them, is still so heartbreaking, it's hard to see our pure sweetheart Penny like that. What's so powerful about Nora's outburst to Ironwood is that we can see where she's coming from and where she started. Nora knows what it's like to have no one or nothing, it comes from her struggles of being on the street and to have seemingly been abandoned, so to see Ironwood even consider something like Martial Law, something that would intensify the negativity of Mantle even more with the occupation of more soldiers and stricter freedoms, and have Mantle bear all of the burdens and face the struggles of the Grimm is really apparent of where Mantle is on Ironwood's priority list. We can tell that Nora can sympathize with Mantle's people in this way. So yeah, onto Robyn, I told you to put a pin on her actions in the previous episodes, so as we can see, she's a lie detector through her semblance, but she can only use it if the second party is willing to take her hand and be questioned voluntarily, as we saw in a previous episode where offered it to Clover. She can't judge them remotely, hence why we can assume it has to be voluntary. Last thing I want to discuss, Pietro. So we learned why it can take a toll to rebuild Penny, as he gives her part of his Aura to make up hers, Penny's Aura was never completely artificial, a part of Pietro's was necessary in making up hers. This is probably what was originally used for the Aura transfer machine in Volume 3, a machine used for containing an Aura and transferring it into something or someone else, we can assume Pietro used that machine to give Penny part of his Aura. Pf course, not the same exact machine, but another like it he has up in Atlas. Also, the song that plays at the victory party, "Celebrate" is a paticular favorite on the soundtrack, can't wait to see your reaction to that on the OST reaction!
I grew up with Steven Universe and his VA went through purberty and everything while voicing Steven. Just comparing his voice (and singing ability) from the first season to the last is just crazy

Funny bit of trivia: Is Sun's VA, Michael Jones,'s irl married w/ kids partner xD, oh and that gives me the opportunity to mention that Lindsay uses they/them pronouns (just cause its a detail ones following the crew would know vs. someone watching the show). - Gotta love Yang's big sister lean on Oscar xD - Yang laying back on Weiss's bed (irrc) in order to stare at Blake, she's got it bad xD - YES that Nora line in-universe that canonizes that BB is romantic and mutual, thus soft-canonizing the relationship. Not to mention the blatant paralleling between Renora and BB xD - May is great and Kdin is also great. Gotta love seeing a non-joke and non-plethora of trauma/degrading/etc tropes trans rep. Also when developing May, the writers actually consulted with Kdin to make sure everything was done well. - The sad and frustrating part is that irl is showing that its true someone can be an utter piece of garbage person, yet still have a decent chance of political power. Even the "gaining help via outside sources trying to put a finger on the scales" aspect fits. - Renora kiss -chef's kiss- Its so well done - Nora is completely right - Love that once again Yang is shown listening to and compromising w/ Blake; not trying to push her own approach onto her. Such a good change for Blake considering Adam never did either. I also agree with them giving Robyn some info, cause she truly is just trying to do what's right for her people.
If you go back to the Volume 1 soundtrack, Red Like Roses Part 2 is framed as a duet between Ruby and her mom, Summer Rose, and it is sung as a Duet between Casey Lee Williams and her mom.

I love that Blake is the one reluctant to ambush Robyn, considering how much she probably relates to Robyn. Both her and Robyn were revolutionaries who tried doing things the peaceful way only to turn to aggression when peaceful options were ignored. Blake probably really understands and empathizes with Robyn, and Yang’s understanding/respect of that speaks volumes towards their relationship. Actually, I love how that whole scene between them in the truck plays out. They sort of disagree in some ways but they see each other’s sides and respect them, and support each other. I love them help
That theory about Ren being a sort of oracle actually has some merit considering his little slo-mo turning realization right before they were ambushed by the Ace Ops
I think the chess symbol was supposed to represent just how much trauma and fear from the Fall of Beacon that Ironwood has. I love his conversation with Oscar.
See, here's the thing. Ironwood's original plan was to tell Atlas about Salem, weathering the storm of Grimm that would bring, recovering, then using the tower to inform the world only after back to strength and able to help them too. It's not a bad plan. But it's a plan that needs Atlas and Mantle secure first, and the tower built second. So he's prioritizing things all wrong right from the outset.

Another great episode. Loved your reaction honestly it just makes my day!! Oscar is really coming to his own and I really like how he handled the situation with ironwood. This is where I see a lot of Ruby and Oscar similarities, with how Ruby is always alike with summer so they keep reminding her of that. She’s always been looked at like another summer. And Oscar is the same with everyone reminding him of ozpin and how he will be the next. Ironwood still has his humanity in him while he is robotic he controls himself he isn't part of the network that can be hacked like the droids in v3 so that's to clear that up. I also love that Robin Hill (Hood) has nicknames for everyone just like in the fables and many pop-culture Robin hood movies
To Ren. He is using his ability to mask emotions to try and feel out emotions around him. He did it when Tyrian first showed up in Volume 4. He did it at the start of this volume as well when the Ace Ops captured them but he couldn't react. Jaune is learning both better defense but also turning himself into a perpetual energy machine by using his own semblance to speed up his own aura Regen. You can see it on the scroll Oscar is holding. Fiona's semblance is actually the semblance Roman was supposed to have. Being able to open a pocket dimension and store things inside. It was called Deep Pockets. May isn't just anyone. She is the cousin of the blue haired idiot who flirted with Weiss at the party.
Ohhh man your editor's on point. Unless you're your own editor, in which case same, I absolutely love all the position-shifts and fades and just--yeah! A+ work there, already loved these for the commentary but the fun had on screen is just the cherry on top.

The thing I love most about this episode is the conversation between Yang and Blake in the truck. The two of them are in near perfect sync, but it's impossible to avoid disagreements. When Blake aired her disagreements with Adam, he was quick to brush aside her feelings without even listening to what she was saying. He would personally attack her and belittle her into thinking that she was the problem. It's hard to catch on the first watch, but you can see Blake closing herself off, wrapping her arms around herself, which she's done before when talking to Adam. She's really scared of being attacked as she was before and unconsciously makes herself seem smaller. But, Yang isn't Adam. She understands that Blake doesn't want to fight a fellow huntress, and especially not Robyn Hill, a huntress that Blake can easily relate to, a freedom fighter for the people and faunus. And, Yang would never force Blake into something she doesn't want to do. If you look closely, an especially tragic moment is when Yang makes the decision not to fight. You can see Blake's eyes widen in surprise. She's so used to being ignored that she really didn't think that her words would get through, but she knows she's talking to Yang and not Adam. Yang is the one that always listens to her partner, whether they agree or not.

Nora's kiss (and ofc, Nora aknowledging Yang & Blake relationship before), the return of V3 trauma (remember what Penny said in the beginning of the Volume ? "It will be just like Beacon again !"... Well, I guess she was not wrong, tho. But not the way we wanted it to happen x)), Tyrian's massacre, Jacqu-ass's victory... And Nora, her again ! She's definitely the star of this volume ! And lots of informations about Tyrian at 21:46, when Clover shows his screen. And Blake and Yang talk about Adam. And finally the truth about Penny ! 21:00 One "funny thing" to take notice of at this moment, when Ironwood is talking about sacrifices, is an essential element of his character, that many do not really grasp. He is talking about making sacrifices. OK, everyone has to make sacrifices. But a sacrifice is meant to be something with value for the one doing the sacrifice. So, right now, what has Ironwood really sacrificed by himself ? He is ready to sacrifice innocent lives for the "greater good". But he is not sacrificing anything himself. Talking about sacrifices, but always making the others sacrifice what they value most, while he loses nothing. That's an interesting part of his character that shows greatly how contradictory this man always was ! And yes, Penny has a part of Pietro's aura. Pietro's soul. And even more scary... Penny cannot be revived again, no matter what happens. So her life is as precious as is everyone else's. And the final talk between Oscar and Ironwood is really great too, because it shows what is Ironwood true weakness (once again often forgotten) : he doesn't believe in the power of "humanity". For him, humanity is a weakness. But it is humanity that can help everyone. It is by being human that victory can be achieved. Victory is in a simple soul, but a simple soul is a one who will cherish their humanity above all. Remember what "Oz's private guard" was inspired by ? Oz's Magician. Qrow is the scarecrow that lacks a brain (because he was obediently following Ozpin without questioning him). Leonhart is the cowardly lion. And Ironwood... Is the Tin woodman that lacks "a heart". And "heart"... May refer to humanity... And if that was not enough, now, they received an invitation from Jacqu-ass ! They're fucked xD Keep up the good work man ! Now a few fun facts and whatnot: 1) I always understood the Ren training thing as him working on his semblance, successfully blocking out everything (completely clear mind state) 2) "Anyone wants to go to the movies?" "Yup!" - Remember how Weiss shot that request down in Season 1 and Yang told him "One day..." Also to be fair Weiss doesn't have much of a choice. Either she can be third wheel to Bumblebee or she can go to a political rally of her own fathers political opponent - I am sure that would go great. I tear up a bit seeing how devastated Penny was at the end of Chapter 6. Everyone knew her as the The Protector of Mantle. A title, which she held with upmost regard and part of what gave her purpose, is now gone.

YEP, THE RENORA SHIP HAS FINALLY, OFFICIALLY, SAILED! The Renora kiss is a particular highlight for a lot of Renora shippers and just fans in general, all that time together on-screen has finally led up to this! Preceding that, we get the impression something is bothering Ren from that conversation he has with Nora, what it is will be elaborated on in the coming future.
That scene where Penny is staring out at the city that now thinks of her as a murderer, someone who's supposed to protect them, is still so heartbreaking, it's hard to see our pure sweetheart Penny like that.
What's so powerful about Nora's outburst to Ironwood is that we can see where she's coming from and where she started. Nora knows what it's like to have no one or nothing, it comes from her struggles of being on the street and to have seemingly been abandoned, so to see Ironwood even consider something like Martial Law, something that would intensify the negativity of Mantle even more with the occupation of more soldiers and stricter freedoms, and have Mantle bear all of the burdens and face the struggles of the Grimm is really apparent of where Mantle is on Ironwood's priority list. We can tell that Nora can sympathize with Mantle's people in this way.
So yeah, onto Robyn, I told you to put a pin on her actions in the previous episodes, so as we can see, she's a lie detector through her semblance, but she can only use it if the second party is willing to take her hand and be questioned voluntarily, as we saw in a previous episode where offered it to Clover. She can't judge them remotely, hence why we can assume it has to be voluntary.
Last thing I want to discuss, Pietro. So we learned why it can take a toll to rebuild Penny, as he gives her part of his Aura to make up hers, Penny's Aura was never completely artificial, a part of Pietro's was necessary in making up hers. This is probably what was originally used for the Aura transfer machine in Volume 3, a machine used for containing an Aura and transferring it into something or someone else, we can assume Pietro used that machine to give Penny part of his Aura. Pf course, not the same exact machine, but another like it he has up in Atlas.
Also, the song that plays at the victory party, "Celebrate" is a paticular favorite on the soundtrack, can't wait to see your reaction to that on the OST reaction!

- May is great and Kdin is also great. Gotta love seeing a non-joke and non-plethora of trauma/degrading/etc tropes trans rep. Also when developing May, the writers actually consulted with Kdin to make sure everything was done well.
- The sad and frustrating part is that irl is showing that its true someone can be an utter piece of garbage person, yet still have a decent chance of political power. Even the "gaining help via outside sources trying to put a finger on the scales" aspect fits.

I love that Blake is the one reluctant to ambush Robyn, considering how much she probably relates to Robyn.
Both her and Robyn were revolutionaries who tried doing things the peaceful way only to turn to aggression when peaceful options were ignored. Blake probably really understands and empathizes with Robyn, and Yang’s understanding/respect of that speaks volumes towards their relationship. Actually, I love how that whole scene between them in the truck plays out. They sort of disagree in some ways but they see each other’s sides and respect them, and support each other. I love them help
That theory about Ren being a sort of oracle actually has some merit considering his little slo-mo turning realization right before they were ambushed by the Ace Ops

See, here's the thing. Ironwood's original plan was to tell Atlas about Salem, weathering the storm of Grimm that would bring, recovering, then using the tower to inform the world only after back to strength and able to help them too.
It's not a bad plan. But it's a plan that needs Atlas and Mantle secure first, and the tower built second. So he's prioritizing things all wrong right from the outset.

Oscar is really coming to his own and I really like how he handled the situation with ironwood. This is where I see a lot of Ruby and Oscar similarities, with how Ruby is always alike with summer so they keep reminding her of that. She’s always been looked at like another summer. And Oscar is the same with everyone reminding him of ozpin and how he will be the next.
Who doesn’t say that is Ruby she looks at him like he’s him, himself and I love that about them two it just makes sense.

I love how the election results make an ominous countdown as the chapter goes on.
To Ren. He is using his ability to mask emotions to try and feel out emotions around him. He did it when Tyrian first showed up in Volume 4. He did it at the start of this volume as well when the Ace Ops captured them but he couldn't react. Jaune is learning both better defense but also turning himself into a perpetual energy machine by using his own semblance to speed up his own aura Regen. You can see it on the scroll Oscar is holding. Fiona's semblance is actually the semblance Roman was supposed to have. Being able to open a pocket dimension and store things inside. It was called Deep Pockets. May isn't just anyone. She is the cousin of the blue haired idiot who flirted with Weiss at the party.

9:51 the many times I watched this episode and reactions to it....just hearing that heat in the bg music...I got to hear V7 soundtrack and see if it's there....that's HEAT!
The thing I love most about this episode is the conversation between Yang and Blake in the truck. The two of them are in near perfect sync, but it's impossible to avoid disagreements.
When Blake aired her disagreements with Adam, he was quick to brush aside her feelings without even listening to what she was saying. He would personally attack her and belittle her into thinking that she was the problem. It's hard to catch on the first watch, but you can see Blake closing herself off, wrapping her arms around herself, which she's done before when talking to Adam. She's really scared of being attacked as she was before and unconsciously makes herself seem smaller.
But, Yang isn't Adam. She understands that Blake doesn't want to fight a fellow huntress, and especially not Robyn Hill, a huntress that Blake can easily relate to, a freedom fighter for the people and faunus. And, Yang would never force Blake into something she doesn't want to do.
If you look closely, an especially tragic moment is when Yang makes the decision not to fight. You can see Blake's eyes widen in surprise. She's so used to being ignored that she really didn't think that her words would get through, but she knows she's talking to Yang and not Adam. Yang is the one that always listens to her partner, whether they agree or not.

He is talking about making sacrifices. OK, everyone has to make sacrifices.
But a sacrifice is meant to be something with value for the one doing the sacrifice.
So, right now, what has Ironwood really sacrificed by himself ?
He is ready to sacrifice innocent lives for the "greater good". But he is not sacrificing anything himself. Talking about sacrifices, but always making the others sacrifice what they value most, while he loses nothing. That's an interesting part of his character that shows greatly how contradictory this man always was !
And yes, Penny has a part of Pietro's aura. Pietro's soul. And even more scary... Penny cannot be revived again, no matter what happens. So her life is as precious as is everyone else's.
And the final talk between Oscar and Ironwood is really great too, because it shows what is Ironwood true weakness (once again often forgotten) : he doesn't believe in the power of "humanity". For him, humanity is a weakness. But it is humanity that can help everyone. It is by being human that victory can be achieved. Victory is in a simple soul, but a simple soul is a one who will cherish their humanity above all.
Remember what "Oz's private guard" was inspired by ? Oz's Magician. Qrow is the scarecrow that lacks a brain (because he was obediently following Ozpin without questioning him). Leonhart is the cowardly lion. And Ironwood... Is the Tin woodman that lacks "a heart". And "heart"... May refer to humanity...

I also love how Nora had a legitimate separate opinion from Ren, and we can see that very clearly this volume. If we think about what little we know about her, she was an orphan, had to find moldy bread from the trash to survive in a foreign land. She probably sympathizes a lot with Mantle-folk.
So Pietro has to give up part of his aura to revive Penny. He says if she's destroyed he won't be able to...something. Will he not be able to repair her again? Or can he still, but use up the rest of his soul to do so?

1) I always understood the Ren training thing as him working on his semblance, successfully blocking out everything (completely clear mind state)

Also to be fair Weiss doesn't have much of a choice. Either she can be third wheel to Bumblebee or she can go to a political rally of her own fathers political opponent - I am sure that would go great.
