I love the tiny detail in this episode, when the prince tells Weiss she's "in the presence of Royalty!"... Her eye twitches... She's absolutely suppressing a lot of sass over her disdain of pompous high society right there... She's probably even seeing a lot of younger, annoying Whitley in him... One can only imagine what that outburst could have been...
Weiss literally said "Excuse me?" At him 🤣🤣
I also like the fact that Weiss is so annoyed may be a reference to the fact that in CHESS it's historically Red vs WHITE.
The Red Prince is literally the antithesis of who Weiss is NOW.
Weiss has had a myriad of expressions and minor facial/body language that's made every second of her onscreen an absolute gem

Weiss has always been able to summon only parts of her summons (her very first summon was also just the sword, the scene with Winter in V3). I think it's just that now she's really starting to utilize partial summoning.
Especially since it takes less time (and probably less Aura?) to do a partial summon. She's learning from how long it took to summon the Arma Gigas against Vernal, which left her vulnerable and resulted in losing her Aura and getting impaled. And trying to summon the full Nevermore in Volume 8 also failed because it took too much time and the Centinnels destroyed it.
Weiss = Spice:
Technically, she summoned the arm of the knight to wield the sword. I think this was because she was still unable to do a full summon - even though she may have intended to - and so could only manage part of one.
This summon here is like an expert deliberately choosing an aspect of her semblance on which to focus. Let's look at it in terms of using spices in cooking:
A novice chef (Weiss: Volume 3) may not have access to a full spice rack, or may not have familiarity with all the spices they do have, so they may underseason their food. They may prepare it well otherwise, but it could be a bit bland.
As the chef gains experience (Weiss: Volume 4-8), they learn to use all of the spices at their disposal, and will experiment with various combinations to find out what they like, but will often use too many. Their food will improve, but may lack the subtle touch of a master, having too many or conflicting combinations of flavors.
A master chef (Weiss: Volume 9) will have learned that less is more - and instead of using 7-8 different spices in a dish, may only use 2 or 3, learning to correctly compliment the food with the best flavoring available.
The difference between her summoning just parts of her summons when she first started, and now is now she has full control and doing it on purpose. I think her doing the partial summons back in volume 3 was because that's all she could do. In my honest opinion, Weiss is surpassing Winter in how creatively she uses both gliffs and summons. Perhaps it's because Winter's military stiffness and concern with doing things the proper way stifles creatively.
Weiss going to Beacon and meeting Ruby, Yang and Blake was the best thing for her growth.
@@Neekazan Exactly, and I believe the fact that going to Beacon led to her growth is why she can use the Arma Gigas.
We learn in the manga that was made by Shirow Miwa that the reason Weiss had to fight the Arma Gigas in the first place is because Jacques didn't want her to go to Beacon. She was training one day and argued with his secretary about it, so the secretary followed Jacques' order to make her fight the Arma Gigas if she insisted on Beacon. She was told that if she could defeat it, he would finally let her.
But she was also told that this particular machine had had "possession-type Grimm" put in it by scientists and that it was a lot more powerful than the original, which led her to reply "So you're basically saying I don't stand a chance." She wasn't at 100% because she had already been fighting, so she was at a disadvantage, and she still pushed herself to the point of getting a scar over her eye just to defeat it and go to Beacon instead of Atlas Academy.
It should be noted that this chapter came out before the writers revealed in the Volume 4 directors commentary that the Arma Gigas _was_ possessed by a Geist Grimm.
In Volume 3, Winter told Weiss to think about defeated enemies who caused her to push past who she was and become who she is now. That is why her summons are the Arma Gigas, the Boarbatusk, the Nevermore, and the Queen Lancer. Four battles that set off domino effects that led her to grow as a person.

Yeah Neo for sure just evolved her Semblance at the end. She was never able to do that before, that is insane!!! Can't wait to see what she does with it this volume!
She actually did it in Roman Holiday, so it's not a semblance evolution, although I'm not sure exactly what it is.
I'm not so sure. It might just be me, but Neo actually looked surprised when the clones appeared. Almost like she didn't know she could do that.
@@dudeguy1894 Exactly! I was just about to say that. Even if she was able to do something like this before somehow, it CLEARLY wasn't to this scale. She's literally a one woman army. If she had this the whole time she would've used it a LOT more often.

Thank you, I really appreciate the kind words! I'm no professional singer and I know singing the intro every week can come across as childish or cringe to some people, but I just enjoy having fun, not taking myself too seriously, and giving the people what they want LOL.

When I watch you sing the intro's volume to volume, I see someone who not only thoroughly enjoys what they are doing, but someone whose love and passion for the show cannot be contained. Reach time begins, in episode 2, Blake noticed that Jinxy the raccoon was older than she remembered for the story, which means that the story of the girl who fell happened before, how much time idk, probably many decades or even centuries. And as many speculate that Jaune is currently the rusted knight, who was previous one ?
In the painting in the OP you see Alyx with her back to a mirror, in that mirror there is a silhouette of an older woman. If we take that to be an older Alyx then it is probably only decades. Of course in Through the Looking Glass there were a lot of time distortion shenanigans so anything is possible.
weiss has been getting so much good treatment this volume, from being extra expressive to also utilizing all of her combat kit, i know some people didnt like that she moved away from the melee and started becoming more of a pure mage but they are balancing it well now. real curious as to what kind of person ruby will be at the conclusion of this volume
She kind of has to move away from the melee. She’s a fencer. Fencing as a martial art is designed for focusing on only one opponent who is also wielding a sword. She’s not dealing with Grimm anymore, but rather sentient enemies that can think and plan. She’s got to rely on glyphs because her fighting style is suited to either Grimm, or other Huntsmen.
I love the ending of your talk on neopolitin. I’m wondering if she’ll use this as a way to torture ruby by taking forms of people she knew too

Loved this episode. The fight was great. Especially the team attack and seeing Weiss use everything instead of just focusing on summoning. Also loved seeing Yang show her classic cockyish personality during the fight. And loved the sheer hammyness of the Red Prince.

Always gotta love seeing Weiss' majestic gracefulness in action, and the Ever After is the most appropriate place for Neo's semblance, Overactive Imagination, to become stronger.

The red prince when he's introduced somehow reminds me of Whitley. I think it's his voice, in how he articulates things in quite a proper way.

For all y’all that are saying Neo evolved her semblance that’s not entirely true, in the book Roman Holiday, Trivia Vanille (Neo before she becomes Neo) was able to manifest Neo since she originally thought it was her imaginary friend, so it partially evolved in the sense that she’s able to do multiple now
Wait so she manifested her current appearance with the umbrella as a child and then grew into it or?
@@msnavy97 neo was her imaginary friend, at first only she could see and FEEL her but as she got older it evolved so others could see her too and she could actually do things in the world.
after an incident at 18 (no spoilers) she kinda just grew. into what was originally just her imaginary friend

I thought the wings were from the sphinx they fought on the train in vol 6. Since Weiss froze off it's wings, but Ruby and Qrow killed it. She didn't get to kill it herself but she did freeze it's wings. So she at least gets those lol.
I'm more aligned with it being the Nevermore wings because we at least saw her attempt to summon the entire thing back during Volume 8 during the Schnee Manor scene at the generator before it was destroyed by the Cenitaur grimm.
Also, Nevermore wings shoot feathers.
So like my comment in the previous Reaction, the Jabberwalker doesn't seem very strong in the Ever After, being scared off by Weiss, Blake & Yang and now taken down possibly by a few Neo clones. Hopefully it is stronger than it seems because I honestly want it to be a threat with how it looks, moves and talks. Humans have been to the Ever After with more than just Alyx, either she or other Humans seem to have caused the Red King's demise some way; perhaps Oz has been to the Ever After? Can't wait to see what Neo does and what happened with Jaune too

About Weiss summoning the Nevermore wings behind her, Jaune called it first. She's the Snow Angel.
That fight scene was truly amazing. Also notice the wings in Angel Weiss' glyph. Pretty cool. I hope we get to see the speed glyph she used on Blake from vol 2 again and maybe some explanation as to that. Also I really like that she used her glyphs, her swordsmanship AND her summoning. And Yang has learned not to rely on her semblance but does still use it. We had a nice balance of new moves and good old favourite callbacks in that fight scene!
Based. I had the same reaction to Weiss's "Angel form" (We can ignore that they're probably Nevermore wings.)
What interested me is the wings on the glyph. It's a nice design to represent what she is summoning..But did the Lancer glyph have anything?
But you made me realize.. Weiss expanded her semblance a bit.... So did Neo... Curious Cat talked about "Change" quite significantly. .I think it's gonna go beyond Ruby's growth. Everyone is gonna expand their semblances in some way.
Last volume it was pointed out to Ruby that there's more going on with her semblance then she might realize. I feel like Ruby is gonna ultimately unlock fast travel... Or she'll find a way to combine the silver eye power with her semblance somehow. Maybe make herself a living Grim killing holy lance. (Probably not but it sounds really cool, you have to admit.)

This episode is basically a return to form for season 1-2 fights which I'm all for. Most of the seasons since have had the teams working together or fighting one on one but they're finally bringing back full on team attacks.

It was good seeing the team fight dynamics again, even though Ruby didn’t really participate in the fight herself. Where the hell did crescent rose land anyway?
Most likely, Crescent Rose lies on the far side of that tropical beach-like island. I’d like to think Team RWBY will visit a few, if not most of the areas before making a stop at the first island then finally towards the tree.
@@BmanRockhart I mean tbh, we didn't see any of the other places in the trailer or teaser but according to those two, Team RWBY seems to spend the most time in the mushroom area. I don't think we'll really see the other ones. Neo might go to one of them though, but again we didn't see any of the other places as even just backgrounds in the trailer and teaser so I doubt it.
Could be anywhere. The teaser where we saw it land on the beach might not have been literal, or it might have been moved.
I’m kind of guessing she’ll end up with a new weapon.
@@nioviiosif5134 Don't forget that the RWBY volume trailers tend to only show the first 4 episodes, sometimes with a sprinkle of the 5th. We haven't seen anything from episodes 6-10.

Based on the damage the white pieces suffered from previous matches, I guess they'd rather fake a short fight ending in a "defeat" than go through the torture of being pummeled until they lose bits. Until Weiss, Yang, and Blake show them how to do it, that is!
I can only surmise that due to the intense emotional stress, Neo’s Semblance must’ve evolved (like how the Sharingan does when it comes to either emotional stress or simply experience). Still, that could mean she could appear or be anyone and in more places than one at that!
Actually, you mentioned she knows about the book too right? Hmm…Neo could use that to her advantage as well!
I am still wondering about all those other people that fell...anyone? Maybe apart of Neo's army since team RWBY failed to keep them safe?
Pretty sure it was confirmed that since the average civilian doesn't have an awakened Aura, they either died to the initial explosions from Cinder or would've died from the fall.

so I googled his name right after watching the episode myself & while I'm sure Arnold has done his google already, gonna mention for those unaware that the Red Prince's VA is also the 2nd VA for Caboose (he got a VA change around when the Death Battle happened). That & one of the soldiers in this volume are this VA's first RWBY roles.

I'm super interested to see what kind of person Alex is. It seems that she wanted to do anything in her power to escape the Everafter, no matter who she had to trample over. It seems that humans are not well liked in this world
When one is trapped in a strange land with beings who could be potentially hostile, you would prioritize self preservation and interest just to get back home.
Maybe Alyx wasn't the first human to arrive in the Ever After but she may have been the one to ruin humanity's reputation thereafter.

I loved your reactions when the toy soldiers got beheaded, and how you immediately started vibing when the fight scene started. Do you think they have to build new pieces when game pieces are destroyed or do they just leave the red and white teams uneven?
Team RWBY hasn't even figured out that humans (or at least only Ruby can as a silver-eyed warrior so far) can affect the environment with their emotions, while Neo has already figured out that her semblance is amplified there. Or maybe Neo has awakened her semblance due to intense emotional trauma, with her awakened semblance enabling her to create multiple clones of herself.
In episode two, one of the toy soldiers said that "somebody's sad" because it was raining. So I doubt only humans can affect the environment with their emotions.
Yeah, I think her Semblance evolved like Ren's. It seems that intense emotional stress can cause it. They've shown for a long time now that emotions can affect Semblances, especially negative emotions.
Yang has had a tendency since the beginning to accidentally activate her Semblance when she's angry. She's not always angry when she uses her Semblance, but her anger tends to at least partially activate it by accident. For example, the Volume 2 episode where she told Blake about her mom, you can hear flames when she angrily turns around with her eyes having turned red.
Pyrrha accidentally slammed Jaune against a wall with her Semblance when she was emotionally distraught.
Ren activated his Semblance for the very first time while terrified and crying. His Semblance later evolved when he was dealing with a torrent of emotional strife and then became angry when Harriet talked about replacing dead teammates and moving on.
Jaune slightly activated his Semblance for the first time while defending his friends from Cardin, then fully activated it while trying to save Weiss after Cinder intentionally drew parallels to Pyrrha's death with attacking Weiss and implying that Jaune will once again fail to save someone he cares about.
Weiss' very first successful partial summon was when she was pissed off about Jacques, though I don't think she noticed the tiny sword she had summoned. Winter even told her that emotions can give strength. She summoned the Arma Gigas arm later in Volume 3 when she was afraid for Velvet and rushing to try to help protect her. She accidentally summoned a Boarbatusk during the Schnee Charity Ball because she was pissed off at Jacques.
Neo is currently furious, not just because she failed to kill Ruby, but also because Cinder has once again screwed her over, hence her transforming into both Ruby and Cinder before her clones manifested.
I adopted the child the Red Prince, my friend adopted Curious Cat, also your singing has actually gotten better now that your singing in more your own range, like this one particular was pretty good singing wise. Another one of my friends hates the Prince and the cat.

you could see ruby absolutely stressing out in this situation, she even has her hands on her brain like WTF is happening and getting overwhealmed.
Semblance can evolve, apparently Neo managed to stretch her illusion as an outward device now, that’s gonna be even more dangerous, let’s hope we don’t run into her.
She could do it before, but apparently now she can create multiple illusions at once.
It's always been a little unclear exactly how her semblance works, other than changes to the appearance of existing things. When we saw it in the fight with Torchwick and the mech, it seemed similar to Blake's, where she could swap her real self (and interestingly, also someone else, making it possibly stronger than Blake's) with an illusion to escape, but it quickly shatters. (It also means she can either teleport or make a convincing illusion of empty space, which we also saw on the train, and either one is pretty OP.)
In the barfight with Cinder, it seemed more like she was actually outside the whole time and had sent a summoned copy inside to fight, and it only shattered once she stopped concentrating on it, when the fight moved outside.
Here, she's summoning multiple semi-autonomous clones, all of which seem to be capable of fighting, which is definitely a step up.
This was a good episode also I think The Red Prince Kicking Penny’s Sword away was a play on the Red Queen beheading some Cards Gaurds for Planting White Roses instead of Red Roses as she like all things Red.
Little is giving me REAL DORMOUSE vibes.

Maybe where they land is based on their purpose, which would be a convenient way to justify Team Ruby all conveniently landing in the same acre around the same time and finding each other, probably because of their shared purpose and shared goals as a team. Neo has a separate goal: revenge, which then perfectly explains her landing in the land of darkness and gaining stronger evil powers - as we saw, the land responded to her powers and likely her desire for revenge towards those she turned into (and semblance after all is an outcry of the soul which is aura so it's based on the person themselves).
Jaune may be feeling lost without his team, wracked with guilt over Penny, unsure whether his team are even alive and unsure of where to go next, which may be what leads to whatever situation he's in which looks like possible imprisonment in the clock place and possibly his transformation into the knight, which may be a foreshadowing of whatever awaits Ruby. Maybe being uncertain of your purpose can lead to you being... repurposed.
-Chapter 3: Rude, Red, and Royal

-The Red Prince
First Cordovin (Volume 6) and now this brat. I guess the behavior shouldn’t be a surprise. A royal child on his birthday party, naturally entitled. But…throwing away perhaps the only thing that Penny had as a human as though it was trash… He has immediately get relegated to the punch-in-the-face-on-sight list (It’s a short list, but I know Cinder is in there). And it doesn’t help that he is also a cheater, playing a game where the odds are overwhelming in his favor by using battered pawns over heavily armed soldiers (although to be fair, Ruby did challenge him). And unfortunately, he has powers, which makes him dangerous (well, that and executed his own soldiers), much to the dismay of Weiss, Blake and Yang.
-Chess Battle
Whether it can be considered a blessing or a curse, the rest of the team fought spectacularly against the Red Prince’s army. So much so that it encouraged the white pieces to actually fight back when prior, they simply surrendered (at the Prince’s behest, no less). But could this be what Blake had feared from the beginning, that their actions may cause another war. Granted, this was a (fixed) game, but in this world, it might be considered one and the same.
Then there is the issue of their identities. Although Ruby tried to hide it, her revelation to the Prince upset him greatly (an understatement). Clearly, Aless’ arrival had a greater impact on this world than they thought; which is obviously considering that a war erupted here by her presence. Which begs the question; what happened to the Red King? Was he slain in the aforementioned war? Which brings up another question of who brought that tale to Remnant in the first place? If it was Aless (and it is likely be so), then the intro of the show of her walking in front with the team may be more figuratively, since they are walking her path and story.

On a lighter (and more awesome) note, what do we call that triple attack that Weiss, Blake and Yang used?! I don’t think there is a name for this (likely because it never happened before) and I have been wracking my brain on what to call it. What can you call a combination of Ice, Fire and Shadow that isn’t going to sound too convoluted?
Maybe I’ll figure it later…
But with them now miniature, Ruby may feel more of a pressure to protect her team, as they are now technically vulnerable. Even as the team leader, she always had her team around to fight with her and vice-versa. Now they will be totally relying on Ruby and should any danger arises, Ruby may have to fight on her own to protect them, without Crescent Rose no less.
-Curious Cat
Apparently, they have an ally in the form of the Curious Cat. And although he helped them escape, it pretty much behaved much like a talking cat would; enigmatic. In fact, it reminds me of the Cat in _The Last Unicorn,_ when Molly wanted to know how to find the lair of the Red Bull, the Cat merely gave her unusual answers, which frustrated Molly.

But the Curious Cat did mention about others? What others was he talking about? Aside from Aless and Jaune (assuming he had arrived at this point), who else was he talking about? How many other people fell into this world? It may be the others who fell during Cinder’s assault, perhaps?
-Neo’s Descent
Once again, the thought of warped time comes into play, as Neo and Ruby were last seen together and then Neo arrives sometime after Ruby came and reunited with her team. But even more so, Neo seemed to have picked this time for her Semblence to evolve. At first, you would this of them as clones, like Blake’s and Sun’s. But these seem to be more solid, even matching the appearance of Neo exactly. It may likely be similar to the difference between the _Clone Jutsu_ and the _Shadow Clone Jutsu_ of _Naruto,_ with the latter being more stable and are capable of actual attacks.
In either case, this bodes badly for the team…
I thought that Neo falling was actually Jaune for a moment. Since Neo fell with Ruby together and Jaune fell last but I guess Jaune wounldn't fall with Neo's shade of Pink 😅 This season so far is really awesome :D
