  • Diatomaceous earth is a non-toxic natural substance. It’s made from crushed fossils of freshwater organisms and marine life. Through a microscope, the particles look like bits of broken glass.
Diatomaceous earth is deadly to any insect, yet completely harmless to animals. It can kill fleas, ticks, lice or mites on your dog. But … what other benefits does it offer your dog?

I've used this for years. My dogs have never had fleas or worms. I use it myself and during a stressful time in my life I lost a lot of hair, the daily internal use of Diatomaceous earth helped grow my hair back in abundance.

Worked like a MIRACLE on 4 dogs for fleas! . We use it only in the summer. All we do is place a pinch in the water bowls. We find this works well. We are not placing on food. Just in water, just during the summer.

I don't understand. From what I've read it doesn't work when it's wet so how does it work if your pet iingest it?

@@shawn4357 I would love to tell you the answer, if I knew. I have 4 dogs, who are inside , as they choose, but outside we have grass and hay on 5 acres. We did not know , when I brought home my youngest, a rescue, that he, in his dark fur , had fleas. So ,each year , we had thought we had gotten rid of fleas, only for them to return the next season. We are anti toxins and drugs, but we also do not want them getting worms as a result of fleas. We spent a lot of money on so many less toxic methods.2 years ago , the living room was a cloud of powder as we powdered the dogs and the furniture and carpet with diatamaceous earth. It was hard on the vacuume cleaner and the living room was a mess. So that method simply did not work for us. But somewhere I heard about putting it in food or water ( we never tried the food method). At first , I put it in their water daily. When I found it was working, I backed off to every other day, then to a couple of times a week.
Only during flea season. It gets cold enough here in the Pacific NW, so it is not needed after first hard frost. I cannot tell you how it works when wet. I do know that my dogs are flea free. Now , they are never around other animals nor in public so that may be a factor that has helped. But the powdering down long haired dogs and the furniture and carpet was far too crazy. Best of luck

Diatomaceous earth must be dry to work for flea treatment around the house. *Do not wet it down or mix it with water* to make a spray.

@poca11211 I take a teaspoon a day in 32 ounces of water. For my dog, she is a melanois and weighs 50 lbs, so I put 1/4 teaspoon in 60 ounces of water. This I do one week out of every month. For my cat, I add a pinch to his water, the same as my dog, a week out of every month. I make bone broth for them since DE can dehydrate them. Thank you for asking!

I did not know about coccidia in dogs and chickens. Watch the video on TH-cam under an agrobusiness insider and natural cure for coccidia. I was happy to know that garlic is good for that, which I also feed my dog with. 1 small garlic clove finely diced for 7 days out of the month. I stuff it in the raw meat I feed her with.

This doesn't make sense. DE is great to dust your pets with topically for fleas (being VERY careful to not get it near their eyes, ears, nose or mouth), but once it's wet - in either food or water - those "glasslike shards" are nothing but mud, essentially useless. Hate to bust everyone's bubble, including Dogs Naturally.
